The Austin Proper Hotel is part of Marriott Design Hotels. This is my first time staying at a Design hotel. The Austin Proper is one of the newest and most expensive hotels in downtown Austin Texas! This Austin Luxury Hotel stood out for their beautiful rooftop setting and luxurious rooms.

4/5 - Inspiration: (how wowed was I by the exterior, lobby, room, and view)
4/5 - Service (how friendly was the staff across all departments)
4/5 - Value (how much do I personally value the product and how likely I am to return)
Josh’s Score:17/20 =85% - Very Good!
Pros:
-Located downtown
-complementary tea and muffins in morning to all guests
Cons:
-Most views are not that great of just other building
-Service was not perfect as a hotel at this price should be. Staff was jund but some shortcomings.

Found your channel from this video. Nice review, thank you. Will check out a few more videos. I assume you always book thru Marriott? Ever use via Amex Fine Hotels? Curious how treatment may differ, as well as offerings?

Room feels better than even some Ritz Carlton properties. Very rare property has automatic shade and Apple TV. I feel room can be 5.5. I think inspiration is 5 because it has a mix of classic traditional style with modern touch. The view is just not good with the room they assigned you but are all rooms with bad views or others are good? I don’t feel fair to give lower rating if only your stay has bad view. How do they charge parking? Also I don’t like the hotel not offering complementary breakfast. Do you think you can add a new category rating for how friendly it is to the elite members including upgrade, lounge, breakfast?

Thanks for the comments! I agree room is very high end and better than many Ritz properties. As for the views they told me they gave me the best view with the 2 beds because I called down to ask about it. So even if I come back view will not be that great which is why for lower on inspiration. Now for design I’m sure some people would love the older style blended with modern but it just wasn’t my style. Valet parking only $57 per night.

As for friendliness for elite members I’ve found it all depends on who checks you in. It varies so much. Many times at check I get someone friendly but the other person checking someone else in at the same time is not that friendly to the other guest. I also don’t always get what I want with the initial person but many many times when I have asked someone else at the same property I get what I want.
