I want to see JJ vs. Austin Rivers, then a Rasheed Wallace or Big Baby Davis vs. Doc match. Give them each a few shots and make them watch tape of Doc badmouthing people beforehand.
Whoosh. The point flew right over his head. Doc has been held accountable (deservedly so) by front offices & GMs who have fired him. The issue is that HE does not hold HIMSELF accountable when asked why things go wrong.
@user-bf8um5oj9q There's a difference in being held accountable, and being accountable. Holding yourself accountable is many different things. It's accepting responsibility when you don't have your team ready to play. It's not throwing your guys under the bus after a game or season. Overall, it's looking in the mirror and saying, "I need to be better."
Responsibility vs accountability. The only counterpoint PatBev and Austin offer is negated by using the wrong definition of accountability. The only thing they have left is smearing the guy for not being a great defender and acting like Doc saved his career when he played even better in Philly for 2 years.
Austin really doesn't understand the difference between SELF accountability vs accountability. I have never seen any clip of Doc ever shouldering any blame for any loss in his career.
which is crazy because the man will be 3-1 up, has to win one more game, and slips on a banana peel, down the stairs, out the door, then blames the team.
Holding yourself accountable vs someone else holding you accountable. Also, Austin river’s personal attack was straight up wrong, and all he did was make himself look like an idiot. His best years were with the sixers, not the clippers, he was unlocked like never before allowing for him to explore his playmaking and shot creation side next to Embiid, which doc all but ignored, the clips also rode with JJ even when his shots were dropping, and this idea that JJ wasn’t a good defender 10 years later is just wrong, he wasn’t an all nba caliber defender, but he wasn’t bad, and Austin rivers saying they needed to sit him for defense is hilarious when he was riding the bench more than JJ and being mid on defense too.
What do you get for holding your self accountable? Nothing at all Im always right is the way of life that why we narcissists are always on top of society while those introverts are depressed and always want to unlive themselves
Angry or personal or not it's completely true. Doc Rivers has a history of blaming his players. Perhaps that could be the reason why JJ took it personally, even though I've never seen Doc throw him under the bus
I’m sure there is some truth to that, I’ve heard that clipper’s team blew up in pretty nasty fashion behind closed doors, and considering Doc’s tendency to publicly throw his players under the bus, I can only imagine how it was going down behind closed doors.
@@jokerofmorocco did you not hear when doc said 'that' clippers team was never championship caliber? he basically removed himself from having any responsbility by saying to the nba community that he was given a team that never had any championship potential and he took them as far as he could. ever since he went to the media with that, jj and many other ex-doc pros have lashed out at doc for exactly what jj is saying here.
He was a kid at that time. When he says “we” he means the clips. He obviously would be supporting the clips since his dad was the coach. That’s why he is saying we. Just like fans say “we” when speaking on their teams
He was part of the team... so "we" We couldn't play you because you are a liability on defense... is something you would say to your teammate when you're being real Not coach couldn't play you 😂😂
Doc getting fired by his superiors isn’t self accountability. Doc has a habit of pointing the finger at everyone except himself. That’s the point JJ was making.
Bingo, it’s his employer’s holding him accountable as that is his job. Of course the coach is never solely to blame but it’s easier to change that than blow a team up. Doc is always making excuses, JJ is entitled to his opinion and Austin river’s said absolutely nothing relevant to what JJ said
Your saying that I don’t agree with Austin most of the time but just by JJ tone it’s personal and JJ has done way less then Doc rivers in the NBA as a player and a coach JJ is a mediocre player never an Allstar sounds very bitter
The quote is "there's never accountability with this guy". I took it as to mean why does this guy keep getting jobs and people at ESPN keep making excuses for him
Both are right to an extent. Docs teams often come up short but JJ was definitely a part of some of those teams and didn't exactly change the narrative in the NBA
It goes to show how much of a talker and politician Doc is. He speaks eloquently and is always praising people, but every time he fails, he starts throwing people under the bus and putting them down, meaning that he doesn’t mean any of the stuff he says normally, and is just talking to achieve some goal. True colors.
Some context to this: Doc came out and publically admitted that he never personally believed that the CP3, Blake Griffin, DJ, JJ, JCrossover lob city Clipper team could ever win anything. He admitted it years later but said it in a way like "Those guys never had it in em" JJ was obviously upset about this cuz that not only deflects all of the blame away from you as the coach but it also retroactively destroys every thing you said as a coach to those players because now we know you never meant any of it cuz you never actually believed in any of us. And guess what, Doc has done this multiple times. Every time he has been asked about his past failures he throws the players under the bus but when he is asked about those players' performances in real time while he is coaching the team he will revert to responses like, "Y'all don't know anything about basketball"
They both didn’t show up in those games though, like it’s hard to win when your second best players shooter like 3-18 and play no defense to make up for the lack of offense. Should he call them out publicly after a lost? Probably not. But he wasn’t wrong either
@@gogoof1791then change the game plan. He's the coach. If threes isn't getting it done settle for plays in the paint. Set up plays to make your team win. Not changing the game plan is why he always lost on game 7s the most cause most coaches adjust their game plan to counter the opponent by game 7 while doc stays the same
It's a coaches job to organize the team, work in game plans and hold players responsible. JJ calling Doc out on the grizzlies have is click bait when it's literally his job to call out that level of effort. It definitely wasn't the gameplan that lost that game
@@swelly84 then he doesn't have a point. If he's complaining about the coach saying guys weren't playing hard for 1 game, then he's asking the coach not to coach...
@@godfr012Dude please, it's not just about holding players accountable, it's about taking some accountability himself for failures. The common denominator is Doc cause he hasn't had the same players his whole coaching career. You know exactly what JJ is saying, don't try to twist it around to defend doc..
@@averymoore9144there’s a difference between holding yourself accountable and someone else holding you accountable, which Austin missed. He then followed it up by saying JJ’s best season were under doc, which was false, they were under Brett brown after doc, he then mentioned JJ being in his feelings about being sat for defense when the clips rode with jj down the stretch all the time, he wasn’t a bad defender, and ironically, Austin rivers was the dude riding the bench in the situation. Those weren’t facts, it was a dude grasping at straws to try and have his dad’s back.
Sorry baby Doc your dad is overrated. In terms where people are ranking him. He was named one of the top 15 coaches of all time. Sorry but he doesnt belong there. Rudy Tomjanovich belong there. 2 championships, one with his team being the 6th and started every series on the road. Multiple comebacks from 3 1 leads. Unlike Doc multiple blown 3 1 leads. Also Rudy T has multiple conference finals and gold medal with USA. HIS TEAM DIDNT WANT TO BE THERE? WHY didn't he motivate them prepare them. You are not a rookie coach. Him and Celtics players MILKING THAT I E CHAMPIONSHIP FROM 15+ YEARS AGO. If you never watched sport and you only heard about their title run from their players and coaches you would've thought they were CELTICS FROM THE 60S DYNASTY. 8 IN A ROW. 😆🤣
Just because youre responsible DOESNT MEAN YOURE accountable... smfh. Yes, hes responsible thats why hes fired. The excuses he makes after hes fired tell you HES NOT ACCOUNTABLE.
@@steviebattle5495 when someone goes on a rant and says I don't care if you just there to coach when that is a fact yeah Austin would've been suspect if kept silent
JJ Reddick has always been acerbic in his commentary. What a deadpan delivery. Simply put…sour grapes. I hope he DOES NOT replace the legendary duo of Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy. These are truly dark days of NBA Basketball…
Exactly well said Austin. JJ riding his MAGA attitude all it is rude pompus I’m smarter than everyone attitude. Bro has zero loyalty or respect just speaks ridiculous statements.
@@aaronmckinney2583he’s not wrong at all lmao. And also doc has also thrown him and clips under the bus as well. This isn’t the first time he’s said it. Him and Jamal Crawford discussed this last year. Doc rivers is the greatest nba industry plant lmao
So can we honestly say Doc has never admitted bad coaching? Come on now. Yall know it aint hard for people to pull receipts. Cut the garbage. I don’t know where this random Doc hate came from. But I guess sheep gone do sheep things.
JJ is trash. let's see how much he holds himself accountable when he gets fired half way through the season as Lakers assistant coach (because we know LBJ is the real coach) and when LBJ (who is notorious for not holding himself accountable) throws him under the big purple and gold bus
I mean, maybe Doc hasnt taken accountability for every misstep, but ive seen him say this let down or this loss or the team not being ready to play is on me. Maybe people like him so They give him a pass. Personally i think he might just be over-rated as a coach and all his failures werent underachievements but on par with his abilities
JJ best years were when he made the finals with the magic bruh. And in philly 😂when he averaged 17 ppg but hes right about doc....has to know and understand accountability 😂
Austin Rivers owe a big chunk of what he made in the NBA to his dad though. That is probably what rubs some of Doc Rivers former players the wrong way.
U get paid millions of dollars …. Saying u don’t want to be there. They was up 3-1 then lost 4 straight then said they didn’t want to be there. Bullsh**
Austin Rivers has good takes on espn. He deserves to keep moving up. He just needs to know when to ease up and chill at times, but other than that gripe I have I love listening to him and his takes are very no bs.
Doc is still regarded somewhat as one of the best coaches by some ppl although he hasn’t won anything since Boston. Idk about him making excuses so much as others making excuses for him
Funny how JJ Reddickhead can point out that Glen Doc Rivers is always making excuses for losing...but magically JJ cannot see this same trait of excuse making in Lebron James!!
“He’s always fired when things don’t go right” ummm he’s always the coach of a team that never excels and always loses game 7s. Who else they gon fire. Sooner or later everywhere he goes and continues to lose the only constant variable is doc. 🤔
