@@mking1982098 I think that was my point. He hasn't won anything of consequence. He hasn't taken his team on his shoulders and carried them to anything close to greatness. It has all been individual accomplishments. All the great players, the super stars have won a cup. Matthew's has not shown that in 7 years. He needs to elevate his game in the playoffs when it really matters. He needs to make his team better and lead the way. That is what the greats of the game did. Ask yourself this - would Yzerman be held in such high regard if he didn't win a Cup? Matthew's has had the opportunities to do the same but hasn't taken advantage of that. Now with the cap and the lineup situation in Toronto it looks like you will have to wait even longer than you thought to see success. The rest of us knew this from the onset of the the Matthew's era. If Matthew's would have really wanted to win a Cup, he would have signed for less. Think about it. He knew the market he was coming into and knew that he was going to be the Maple Leaves box office star. Gimme, gimme gimme.

Matthews salary isn’t even crazy, 58 million over 5 years is an absolute bargain. MLSE is paying Pascal Siakam 136 million over 4 years and the Raptors can’t even make the playoffs lol. And if you look what Rogers pays the BlueJays players Matthews salary would make him one of the lowest paid which is crazy considering Matthews is the most popular athlete in the city.

@@ryanc9888 its all about the revenue generated by the leagues. NHL players get paid the least by far and always will because its not as popular (still the best sport imo) but his 12 mil annual salary is still one of the highest in the NHL just comparatively speaking its peanuts
