Round the Twist was a massive international hit, including in the US where it was shown on Fox Kids. It won every imaginable award, including two gold medals in New York. It was unique in that it was written to entertain both children and parents. It worked. I was a parent of young children in the 90's. Parents loved the quirky and very surreal humor, and children loved that it was the children who were the stars of the show, and were doing things every child dreamed of doing. Kids of all ages from the youngest to teenagers found it had something for them. It was loved everywhere from American midwest cities to the capitals of Europe and beyond. An insanely great kids comedy program, with the emphasis on insanity.

When I did short stories for my year 7 classes, Paul Jennings was my go to, plus of course the videos for visual literacy. Paul's short plays were equally well received and the kids were very happy to participate in acting them out.

This show was popular in Germany, too! Here it aired as "Twist Total" in the early 1990's. Australian kids shows were next level back then! Some of them were co-produced with German TV (which basically means that the German TV station ZDF invested a lot of money in the production) and everything was dubbed into German, which is still normal here for foreign programs. The absolute best Australian kids show was "Mission Top Secret" - it was amazing!

Round the Twist first premiered on Aussie tv 6 April 1990 ended on 2 May 2001 with a total of 52 episodes over 4 series. when I was a teenager I watched it ever week. When I had my daughters and they were old enough to understand none of was real, I use to sit on the sofa with them and watch Round the twist, we always a laugh about it. I't was the 90's before everything became P.C. Basically the lighthouse they live in, has something magical about it, that put the kids and other family members in the weirdest situations.

The twist to this show is that the family moved to the country town lighthouse home, where it and the immediate surrounds are in some kind of magical, interdimensional transit zone where weird things happen. The stories do have morals, the one about the tree spirit baby had even the town tough bully boy gang, getting all compassionate and overemotional and willing to help out their sworn enemies the Twist kids and the sad tree spirit woman. There is also a pompous, evil mayor and real estate developer in town that is continually being thwarted by the Twist kids. His son is the head bully. The bewildered, widowed father is always out of the loop regarding the magic hapoenings and has his own problems trying to woo a local lady who likes him back but is frustrated by his absent mindedness and clumsiness which is actually caused by him having to deal, cluelessly, with his kid's weird siruations. Kids just like stories about magic, fantastic mythical creatures, monsters, ghosts, revoltng substances, fart, willy and bum jokes. The bit about the kissing mum, was that she accidentally drank the love potion Pete meant her daughter Fiona to drink. (Risky subject for adults, but not so for naive kids... just hilarious).

The episode I remember is when they had a remote control that affected the real World around them and they made one guy eat lots of food during a Foot-Eating contest until he vomited everywhere and then reversed it to make the vomit go back into his mouth and they also paused a dog while it was urinating I think. If I remember correctly...been many Years
