I wish I think it would be a really good choice for New Zealand. They could add 2 more to the current order that Japan has to lower costs. Has a low crew number too and that will help with the manning shortages
Given the ‘tyranny of distance’ Australian ships are subject to I would think this ship is the smartest choice, given that it is the largest of the contenders at around 5000 tons and has the range capability required. if Japan is joining ‘tier 2’ of AUKUS then a shipbuilding contract with them will cement their integration into what will eventually be a regional alliance.
The Mogami class SHOULD be the natural choice ......no other. They are our closest Allies in the Indo-Pacific. The European designs are designed to operate in cold water.....NOT the Pacific. I don't trus out Labor Govt to think like this. Les Griffiths
