Nicole Johnston, this is disgraceful reporting. This was editorial comment, not reporting the facts. This result does not entrench poverty and disadvantage. It was a rejection of a poorly designed system that would produce more bureaucrats, not solutions.

The smug satisfaction of metropolitan "elites" shines from the intro to this piece. Utterly ridiculous to imply that "yes" would have been a "vote to unite the country". This was a divisive policy. The "no" vote was a vote against racism and a vote against the ignorance and arrogance of the "elites".

The other issue I had is the disadvantage isnt based on race, but rather demographic. We know theres a significant number of aboriginal tsi peoples who live in the cities and do quite well. Yes we care about our cricket team failing but nobody cares about our Rugby Union team, Union is as popular as soccer in Australia. Our Aussie Rugby League team won last night, & depending on what state U come from, so for me in NSW, then Rugby League is the most important footy code in our country

My heart goes out to those living in horrendous poverty. Why is it though that every day ordinary Australians are getting the blame, with the media sticking the knife straight into divisiveness. Why aren't the media blaming the Government, or the city of London for their pain?? That's where the pain belongs. Stop dividing ordinary every day people. I pray people wake up & come together against the Government of the western world who are causing this crazy situations.

To explain to the non australian readers, we had begged for twelve months for details on the structure, and how it was to work, which were never provided. There was a twenty six page outline plan, detailing a serious list of historical grievances which were being applied to all present day australians, even the millions of recent immigrants. It also outlined treaty, the aboriginal version of 'truth' (which in many cases is fundamentally flawed), and reparations for thevills of colonisation, this despite a yearly budget for three percentbof the population of nearly forty billion dollars. The no vote didnt occur from racism, it occurred from the utter contempt the government and the leading activists held for the australian people. Our own prime minister told us he wouldnt provide details as we would vote it down. Dont fall for the misinformation, australians are traditionally protective of the constitution and our multicultural society. People dont come here to be different, they come here to be accepted, and the idea of separating ourselves by class or race is inherently abhorrent to us.

Good call. The 122-year-old Commonwealth of Australia Government can never have any authority to grant or withhold the right to a 'Voice' - that is the say the right to be listened to by the Government like human beings instead of entirely ignored like soon-to-be-driven-to-extinction animal wildlife - to anyone, let alone to the at least 40,000-year-old First Nations of Australia, especially not conditionally upon a successful result in a colonial referendum. The First Nations already have that right, and indeed always had it from the beginning, were born with it just like anybody else, and just like anybody else no one may take that right away or place arbitrary conditions upon it. No matter what anyone believed, this referendum had nothing to do with restoring the rights of Aborigines, it was about Commonwealth Government misappropriating authority and credibility at the expense of the First Nations of Australia, and permanently establishing the Commonwealth's final authority over the granting or withholding of inalienable human rights to Aborigines who already possess those rights forever, and by association thereby establishing the Commonwealth's final authority over human rights for _all_ Australians. Australians were absolutely right to reject it and the result does them credit.

I don't watch the news, and I'm not on social media, apart from a couple of things I look up on RU-vid. I thought it was for the right to have their say in parliament, which I think they should. When I saw the news ads on TV with indigenous arguing both sides I thought that the referendum was ridiculous. If they can't make up their minds then why are we wasting our time. Should let the indigenous sort out what they want. Then go from there. All it did was cause confusion.
