In Australia, hundreds of homes have been destroyed and evacuations have been ordered as the worst wildfires in decades continue to consume large areas of the country. A heat wave is making the situation worse. NBC’s Janis Mackey Frayer reports for TODAY.

Methods of protecting forests and protecting them from fire 1- Avoid throwing cigarettes outdoors or on the road 2- Disposal of investment waste 3- Educating tourists and forest dwellers about the importance of the forest and the necessity of preserving it 4- Putting fire guards in place 5- Avoid igniting the garbage at random 6- Keep the fire extinguished well 7- Close some fire-sensitive forests at critical times 8- Providing a forestry staff and training them well in extinguishing fires 9- Publishing about any fire and gathering people to extinguish it .

I was at Melbourne Airport a few days ago and a huge contingent of American support staff had just come in, that’s on top of the aircraft they have sent with more on the way and the hundreds of fire fighters! God Bless the USA! we appreciate the help and love from our friends!

I remember this i was in year 6 when this broke out i remember that summer it was one of the hottest i ever experienced i was terrified hearing back then and still am terrifed about if it happens again thank god we got through RIP to the volunteer firefighters that died heroes and may canada get through there situation 😔

Australia's government forbade farmers to contract fire breaks that would help somewhat in preventing the fires from traveling so far.
