It certainly appears that it was predicted that hypermarkets would be a national standard in the retail industry by now, with the slogan, "Discover the difference of 21st Century shopping!" That never really happened. Back in 1984, the first hypermarket in Australia opened in the Brisbane suburb of Aspley, which was a Pick 'N' Pay store, and I think the Super Kmart stores began operating soon after. Coles ended up ditching the Super Kmart concept back in about 1989, possibly due to economic issues, leaving Aspley as the only hypermarket in Australia until another Pick 'N' Pay opened in a former Super Kmart store at Sunnybank Hills in the 90's. Both those stores closed in 2012, thus resulting in an extinction of the hypermarket concept in Australia.
@@rickracer78 There was one of these at Rosebud too. Eventually Super Kmart there became Coles. Kmart became located alongside of the Coles supermarket once the Super K concept got phased out.
