Since living in the US I've noticed that Australian Bedrooms vs American Bedrooms have some BIG DIFFERENCES (5 main ones in fact). The US house vs Australian House is a lot different than people might think.
Some differences might seem obvious in American bedrooms vs Aussie bedrooms, but other differences might be things you never thought of! USA Beds are certainly BIG in comparison to Australian bed sizes, but there is also storage space, cooling/heating, and much more that is different. What do you think of the differences between US vs Australian house? Comment down below!

One of the strangest things for me was having to share a bedroom at college in the US whereas in Aus we all got our own rooms.

Australia has no storage space! Always had a wardrobe growing up to put clothes in but so many houses in America have built in wardrobes

YASSSSS that’s the whole house though I feel we never had any wardrobes in any rooms growing up in Aus, such a nightmare 🤦🏼‍♀️

A duvet and a comforter are two different things. A comforter is a stuffed blanket-like item. A duvet is a slip that goes on the comforter and/or blanket. It just adds another layer for decoration/ease of cleaning

I'm Canadian. I lived in an inner suburb of Brisbane for a few years and lived in two different rented flats. Neither had air conditioning at all. In fact, I felt the cold more acutely in during the Australian winters because their homes lack things our homes here have, such as insulation, weather stripping, and double- or triple-paned windows. One had free standing wardrobes in the bedroom and no other storage in the rest of the flat. The other had no storage in the bedroom whatsoever but decent built-in storage in the living room. One thing I found a bit perturbing is that, in both flats, the bedrooms were in the back and the back doors led straight into the bedrooms.

Yup Queensland houses are not built for the cold that’s for sure!! It never really bothered me growing up cause it’s so much warmer in the north but when I went to Brisbane for Uni I felt the same! The winter was so cold cause of the house 😂

The Great Australian Myth - that Australia is always hot. I grew up in the Tablelands of northern NSW, and winters were freezing (literally most nights). Even there many houses were not built for the cold. However I always the thought Brisbane was warm, until I was up there in July a few years ago. Yes it was definitely chilly at night and early morning.

@@brontewcat I had a thermometer on the fridge and, inside my second flat, which was all concrete and tile, was 8 degrees C during the coldest part of winter.

You were renting.More people have those things in their own homes.

@@renatewest6366I imagine they would. One usually invests more in their own homes than in their rental properties.

Whoa I never realized you can’t control the temperature in each room.. usually (in Florida) we just keep the aircon on all the time haha.

It was so weird to me!! Even in Japan we had the remote control to change it, I just figured that was normal then in every country 😂

The term 'doona' for duvet or continental quilt came about because the first Australian company to introduce them was Kimptons and they marketed them as Doonas. Much like we often call tissues 'Kleenex', even if they aren't. Brits refer to their vacuum cleaner as a 'Hoover', again even if it isn't. The main difference I noticed about US bedrooms is there is no ceiling light, and the light switch turns on the bedside lamps. I would always forget to turn them back on in the morning, so at night I would flick the switch and nothing happens; still stuck in a dark room. Also found no ceiling fans in most places in northern states, eg CA, OR, WA, ID, New England.

in the uk we don't just call a thick type of blanket a duvet we also call it a quilt

In Tucson, AZ ceiling fans are pretty common. We have one in every room, including the kitchen. Although I actually prefer a wall-mounted oscillating fan. It can run much faster and move more air.

There does exist something called "zones", in which you can set the thermostats in each zone at differing temperatures. Fairly easy to install yourself if you own your own home, so you can have one room warmer or cooler than the rest of the home.

2:50 - Actually, a LOT of American bedrooms have ceiling fans. Perhaps it's a more regional thing in America. Some have them, some don't and many install them.

Was curious what the differences were, much more land over fewer people, either way houses much better than uk where we pay 200 grand for a large brick shed

Oh in my room I have a circle light which is in like a granite glass thing with trim on the side and it's hanging out the ceiling but other bedrooms in my house are just different and then I have speakers in my room too and the volume control cause my room Used to be the office in our house and then after the office it was the playroom and then the office again and then my room

A 'Doona' is just an Aussie brand of duvets.
