Alana & Greg, absolutely fantastic footage , have watched every video in your collection. Your camera work is excellent and commentary fun and informative . Having been to Australia 6 times, travelling from Exmouth in WA right round the South coast and up to Cairns, with a trip through the centre to Darwin and Kakadu. I have only seen 100 or so birds species in Oz myself having only restarted birding the last 2 trips over there. Cant wait for my next sortie down under before my retirement. Best wishes David

That was really nice. Nice filming and good clear narration. Especially the highlight given to finches. Among my top favourites. So many years since I have been to several of these places. (The RAOU congress in Katherine in 1981 and camp out at Top Springs). Although I missed finding Gouldian Finches and Star Finches. Sorry just one little suggestion for next time, The pronunciation of the word "insectivorous" is given wrongly each time, as though it is "Insectivirus".

Interested that you got the Red Goshawk at Mataranka Springs. I got it there in 2005 and I'm wondering what year you saw it there. I used to run tours up there and got all the birds you did except for the Yellow-rumped Mannikin (dammit). Your Blue Argus was the bluest I've ever seen!
@alanadare7052
@alanadare7052 2 года назад
Hi Ricki, I've checked our records and it was 29th July 2007 that we saw the Goshawk nesting in a very tall tree beside a caravan park at Mataranka. It was a most memorable sighting because we had rented a cabin for a couple of nights and from my bunk I could look straight out the door at the goshawk on its nest.Never before or since have I ever had such comfortable birding!

@alanadare7052
@alanadare7052 3 года назад
Hi Christine, the trip was approx 1400 kms not counting the driving around we did between sites at Kakadu and the trip to Mataranka and back which we did previously for Red Goshawk, which is another 200kms . If that sounds daunting it's not, because the roads are excellent and all sealed. People travel very fast! We took a fortnight. We flew back to Darwin from Kununurra. It's a pity to have to hurry though, as you never know what good drinking spots might pop up. We did do some driving on dirt roads off the highway and as an experienced birder you know that offers some of the best birding opportunities. Hope you will be able to do your Aussie trip some day.

A fabulous video - immediately joined your channel. Both footage and narrative are fantastic . Lots to learn . . . The Hooded parrots, the Gouldian Finches, the 10(!) Fairy Wrens - but all of them are such adorable, beautiful birds. Important , still sad to hear that almost all are in decline or even in the various stages from endangered to extinct, just like in all parts of the world- and who is responsible? Almost every one of us- especially the "businessmen and bankers that give us jooobs". . . they have to change quickly or must disappear from the face of the planet even quicker. (strictly philosophical and non- violently- not to be misunderstood with some gun-waving lunatics- The lifestyle and the appreciation or toleration of it must cease to be something acceptable - by the right education of the still primitive stoneage minds of a race that has rockets, bomber aircraft - nuclear plants and nuclear bombs and will cut down every tree until none is left and will concrete every squaremile of land until that`s accomplished , too. )
