www.pedestrians... Demolition of the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC. It is being razed to make space for a new embassy building. Produced by John Z Wetmore, producer of "Perils For Pedestrians".
Another great demolition video. Just turn up the sound, and watch the action. The high-reach demo excavator operator is a good one. The demo attachment on that excavator is designed for concrete crushing, and less efficient than a shear for cutting steel beams, hence the workers on the manlift using the cutting torch to assist the excavator. Perhaps being that the building was a former embassy, with security in mind, its construction utilized steel beams encased in concrete. A fun video to watch, thanks for the long-playing action.
The excavator doesn‘t have a full hydraulic quick coupler (e.g. OilQuick) so I guess changing between steel sheer and concrete crusher all the time would cost too much time.
That building looks as tough as old boots. Its the 1st time i`ve seen workmen cut a beam with acetyline torches as the excavators are usually the way to cut them. Good video as per usual.
Parts of building looked very tough. Transfer or blast slab at the beginning. Other parts designed against progressive collapse or heavy fire. Probably with terrorism or blast protection in mind.
The high reach jaws operator is almost at ground level. They could do their job easier if they could see what the camera man sees. Camera on the jaws arm? Or perhaps a video feed from the camera man to the jaws operator.
