Karl, your support regarding the issue of the 35-year age limit on the 485 visa means a lot to us!! As a current student, the uncertainty about whether we will be affected by this age change is extremely stressful. Not knowing what is going to happen is really disturbing. Thank you for being a voice for students in this situation.

Thanks Carl for standing up for the truth. I felt personally touched when you mentioned the many temporary residents who missed out on seeing family for years, just to avoid jeopardizing their migration path. I must admit I got teary eyes for a second. There's so much xenophobic crap being pushed by the media atm. I reckon the real issue is that this is such an amazing excuse for the Govt to avoid dealing wirh the real problem they rather postpone: lack of affordable housing. But who's gonna build it with no skilled migrants coming in? Also Airbnb is a huge factor to consider, and I would assume not too many temporary residents own investment properties in Aus. I live close to Byron Bay where these problems I mentioned are ridiculously amplified.

In fact, overseas buyer (which includes permanent resident for some taxes) are slapped with so many different taxes and levies, it is nearly impossible for them to turn a profit even with strong housing market all over Australia, today. Back in 2015 and before, however, it was totally possible to earn back all of your tuition fee by purchasing property upon arrival, lived there for a few years and sold it before leaving, and property market boom would offset the huge tuition fee international students needed to pay, sometimes completely, and even earn some. It was crazy. Regardless, Australian government must increase the housing supply, unless they introduce draconian methods such as cancelling all non-visitor TR visas and forcing them to leave, thus quickly improving housing situation, disregarding the huge negative consequences.

Hi Karl, as a 34-year-old masters student, I want to thank you for highlighting how these changes unfairly disadvantage older students and demonstrating why this direction is wrong. You give facts and figures no beating around the bush. I feel misled by the promises made during university promotions in my country, which included TR 485 that's now at risk. We were informed that we will get extended TR 485 visas. I'm not looking for an "extended" stay, but simply the opportunity to pursue my goals without this added uncertainty. Your voice against this unfairness gives me hope. Thank you for speaking up on behalf of students like me.

Its not student visas being demonised just for being students. Big majority of them aren't genuine students, many are economic migrants. Many use it for work, some use it as a way to extend their stay whilst waiting for other visas to be provided, many downgrade their studies after 6 months etc. Looking for better opportunities in life how exactly. If its to get an education then yes, perfectly ok. But if it means using the student visa to hang around for as long as possible without any end goal then no. Other countries need to raise their standards and it shouldn't be Australia's business to factor in other countries problems in accepting students

Applicants who received S56 request for medical in December 2023, they were given 28 days to submit medical. However DOHA capped it even before 28 days. Maybe DOHA wasn’t even aware of this decision while sending S56 requests. These applicants must be processed as DOHA sent S56 requests at wrong time instead of granting them.

Ministerial Direction No.105 A new Ministerial Direction for prioritising skilled visa applications came into effect on 15 December 2023. Ministerial Direction No.105 formalises the Australian Government’s support for regional Australia through priority processing. It builds on ongoing work to improve skilled visa processing times. The Australian Government is committed to providing a world-leading immigration service with $48.1 million announced in the 2023-24 Budget to continue efforts to improve the delivery of visa programs. Ministerial Direction No.105 • The new Ministerial Direction recognises the need to streamline visa processing for businesses in regional Australia who are sponsoring skilled workers. It puts applications for employer sponsored visas in occupations in regional Australia to the highest priority. o This applies to the Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482), Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) visas as they fill an identified shortage and are guaranteed to be in regional Australia. • The new Ministerial Direction will continue prioritising applications for occupations in the healthcare and education sectors. This change will have a minor impact on processing times for these occupations. o There is no change to the list of occupations in these sectors that will receive priority processing. • Applications from sponsors with Accredited Status will continue to be a priority. This will support the Government’s announcement for a modernised accredited sponsorship program, including start-ups that have received venture capital funding. • We are also no longer prioritising offshore permanent visa applications over onshore applications. This supports the Government’s commitment to providing pathways to permanent residence and simplifies processes. • Priority in each category for eligible passports holders (Hong Kong nationals and British National Overseas) has also been removed to provide further efficiencies.

Hey Karl, I keep hearing from the news that engineering is prioritised, but all engineers require at least 85 points to be invited. I was unfortunate enough to struggle through an aerospace engineering program, but no aerospace jobs are offered to those without citizenship. Without experience, I cannot meet the 85 points cut off. What is the outlook for the coming year regarding engineering? I am mainly concerned about visa 189 and 190. Thank you
@estellebright2579
@estellebright2579 8 месяцев назад
I was able to accumulate 85 points without working experience as Electrical Engineer for my EOI. Unless you miss the ages (over 32) or you cannot take NAATI test, getting 85 points as engineering graduate is possible. Age: 30 (25-32) Qualification: 15 (at least bachelor) English: 20 (Superior) ASR: 5 (at least 2 year registered study) NAATI: 5 Single: 10 Total: 85 No PY. Any score lower than 85 imo doesn’t have much chance to be invited, cause even on that crazy 35000 Dec 8 2022 invitation round, Electrical Engineer cutoff score for 189 was 85. It is highly unlikely DOHA would issue such a huge invitation round anytime soon, if ever again.

@@Mark-we4bq I had 85 points before Dec 8 2022 invitation round and received invitation from NSW a couple weeks later. However, should I not receive any invitation in 2022-2023, the chance of being invited next financial year is modest at best. That 35000 round is unlikely to happen again and states are going to be very cautious at who they want, rather than just sending out invites like nothing else.
@JanK0818
@JanK0818 8 месяцев назад
@@estellebright2579You forget to mention Oct 6 2022 round which was mainly implemented for engineers and engineering related jobs. Cut-off was 65 for almost all engineering occupations but the round was for only offshore applicants though, if I’m not mistaken. Things have changed and there are thousands of applicants piled up in the 189 pool. I suppose there will be major changes about the point test system and they will want everyone to lodge brand new EOI for the next year, IMO. Anyhow, 85 points have a decent chance when DOHA starts sending invitation to engineers.
@estellebright2579
@estellebright2579 8 месяцев назад
@@JanK0818I did not mention that round precisely because DOHA only invited off-shore applicants and the selection criteria was not provided, meaning the low score may be misleading, whereas Dec 8 2022 invitation round spreads a bit more evenly across onshore and offshore, offering a more representative expectation of points score across a wide range of occupations. Unless DOHA applies occupation specific selection criteria again and prioritize engineering occupations, much like they always invite people in high demand health and teaching occupations for 189, as well as processing their applications faster, 85 points under current points table is a more realistic bar for engineering occupations.

Hi Karl, I lodged my 191 file in December first week, as of now it is still showing me received status. Its been more than one month now. Before December it used to be processed in a month. Any specific reason why they stop issuing grant. Is it related to the new policy or the holiday period. Could you please advise if you have any insight about the same

@@saadhassan7431Look at the released Freedom of Information on DOHA’s website regarding number of lodged 189 visa in 2022-2023 FY. Around 48k applications (including both primary and secondary) have been lodged, which is 16k more than last year’s migration planning level for 189. Likewise excessive number of invitations for 190/491 issued last year. This 16k surplus from 189 + surplus from 190/491 would be covered through current FY’s 189 quota which is around 30k. So less than 14k visas available this year. Obviously DOHA priorities healthcare and educational occupations for 189. Not to mention that DOHA is now focusing on onshore temporary skilled migrants who represent also “some numbers”, although they are already living there. It is highly likely that some of 189 quota is being used for onshore temporary skilled migrants to make them permanent residents. So no chance for engineers in this FY’s 189, IMHO.

They should give Permanent Visas to those working in their own sectors for more than 2+ or 3+ years. I don't understand why they need people without experience with 95+ points on the points-based system. As I have seen few people who qualify for a point-based system, and do some casual jobs like Ubereats delivery and security guard jobs rather than being in their own field. This shows PTE doesn't have to do anything with skills, it's just a money-making platform for the Australian govt. ; so I can say the point-based system is doggy! system.

Hi Karl, Thank you for highlighting the 476 visa issue. It would be helpful, if you could make a special episode addressing the 476 visa applicants. There have been multiple violations in the rights of the applicants. If you need the interview of applicants, we are more than willing to appear in the interview. Some of us have been waiting since 2019 for the decision on the Visa. Although the lodge application doesn't guarantee the grant of visa, but having the stream discontinued without taking the application into consideration after 5 years is absolutely cruel. We have seen in the past, that your voice carries a lot of weight in the Australian Immigration System. Please support us in this regard. Regards,

Thank you Karl , for raising this important issue of capping SC476 its totally unacceptable from DOHA to cap this visa and offer refund to the engineers who have invested significant amount of time and money in preparing for their application . Hopefully DOHA will reconsider their decision and process all tge pending applications submitted before capping date.
@estellebright2579
@estellebright2579 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, they should’ve at least assigned enough quota for all on-hand applications before stoping processing new applications past the cut off date. From what I heard, the current cap cannot even cover all on-hand applications submitted before Dec 2021, let alone the rest. Sadly, with citizens complaining about housing crisis and intense media coverage, I seriously doubt government will amend the decision, and in the end, migrants once again are used as scapegoats.

Hi Karl, can’t thank you enough for continuously voicing on behalf of current international students. The proposed 35 year age cap for the 485 visa is disturbing. It badly affects our academic and career plans as well. I wish to change my career. Just completed the first two semesters of my new masters with good results. One more year to go and this proposal is distressing me.. 10:01

Hi Karl, Thank you as always for your updates! I think I've bit off more than I can chew when I decided to apply for the 189 visa on my own. Hi Karl Thank you so much for your helpful content! I need help from you. I submitted my EOI for NSW 190 with 85 points in which I claimed all my employment history however ACS result has deducted 2 years of experience. (I cannot also change the EOI now, removing work exp will reduce 5 points) Now I don’t understand whether I should proceed with the invite or not as there is 300 dollar fees too? Sorry for reposting on multiple videos as my invite will expire in 2 days so in a hurry to know what to do
