Somewhat of a Miracle he survived. We are working with him to help with future licensing of his video. We will everything we can long term to support him. Just wished the video was filmed in landscape as it really limits licensing opportunities.
Americans see a tornado: "Oh Lord! Oh Jesus! Save me Lord! Save me!" Australians see a tornado: "Whoa! Hey Gazza, get a load of this shit maaate!" Love it.
Also props to the people in the car staying relatively calm in their demeanor, still expressing concern, but staying calm. Kept the kid from freaking out
SOme of the most terrifying tornado video I have seen. Very immediate and real. The first one and last stick in my mind. Wayne losing his house so suddenly, and the roos scooting for cover. Wow.
Great compilation of Australian tornados! Late September and early October 2021 produced several impressive events, of which I could not chase due to lock downs but im glad people were able to document the events. The structure with that Narrabri tornado is brilliant. The first one that destroyed Wayne's property is absolutely heartbreaking.
@beekeeper4243 Maybe you should stop making things up on the spot. My home town has always had tornado pass through.. yes even 15/20 years ago. They've always happened here
@@HomestarWunnor Always happened?? You are full of shit, I'm 46 and my family have been dairy farmers for decades. We never had tornado's going back 20yrs +, wirly wirlys are NOT tornadoes I think you are either lying or just stupid. Go to the BOM site and look it up, Facts are your friend.
@@beekeeper4243 are you taking the piss or what. Australia has always had tornados and a lot more of them than you think. There is documented tornados for over 100 yrs. I have been within 10kms of 5 tornados now in the past 30 yrs. Australia has also had an f5 tornado and many people have died. Approx 100 yrs ago w men when seen being taken by a tornado in Chetwyd, later found some distance away and unalived. The casterton tornado in June 1989 f2-f3 travelled approx 77kms ripping 100+ yr old redgum trees from the ground and demolished a home, luckily they were out at the time. Maybe, just maybe, in the last 15-20 yrs we have had these things called smart phones and social media!!
As someone who watches a load of tornadoes and a fellow Aussie myself, I watch these thinking “wow, this looks like something from Oklahoma” until I notice they’re spinning clockwise, the trees and the Aussie accents. It’s just amazing and bizarre.
We are thankful to all contributors who submit content formally for Severe Weather Australia manage. We work hard to help have these creators be paid when they capture rare content.
Thought so. I was a bit south of Tamworth that day and saw two supercell thunderstorms way off to the north, complete with overshoots and back sheared anvils.
We have had a couple here , missed the house by 100 metres and just plucked 50 year old gums out of the ground like picking grass. Terrifying. I think the hill formation behind us creates a spinning effect with westerlie winds (Brisbane) Cannot stand them...
If you have captured anything on camera please send it via our website via www.severeweather.com.au. We can include it in our next series. If one happens again, provided it’s safe to do so, don’t post it anywhere or send to anyone and we will do our best to help you get paid for your footage (make sure you film all video in landscape format rather vertically)
These are fantastic. I really felt for Wayne, just nothing left. Does anyone know if the roos made it? The poor kid who thought they were going to die. Kudos to the adults for keeping the child calm. And wow, that electricity explosion was cool. Can't wait for a part 2.
I think that one was classed as a microburst, but certainly just as scary and damaging. I was only two towns away from there when it hit. It looked like what you see in footage of hurricanes/cyclones. It hit so quickly and with such force and made this huge noise that scared the bejeebus outta me.
Born and bred in Australia and I have to admit, honest to God, I had absolutely no idea that we had tornadoes like this in Australia. Apart from the rare waterspout on the news, the biggest event I knew of, apart from a cyclone, was a 'willy willy' or 'cockeyed bob'. Guess us 'city folk' learn something every day, eh? 🙄
@@ozymandias7940 as long as it stays there. Around the area I live in the Riverina there has been at least 4 in the last 20 years that I know of. Only two caused significant damage.
horrific... I feel sorry for all the animals... it's bad enough for humans, but poor animals would freak out... baby birds, birds... all the animals... sad... 🙏
Nice to see some new footage. There is also some unseen footage out there from the birth of the Mulwala tornado 2013 in Koonoomo. According to the locals that myself and my chase partner spoke to, the guy that shot the footage had passed a few days after the event (not related). His wife has kept the footage on his phone. Would love to see it. :)
@@SevereWeatherAustralia I don't know them and I'm no longer living in Australia. At the time they were both an old couple so I'd doubt if she is still with us.
Jimmy definitely did the right thing by parking next to the power station to record😂 Meanwhile, theres a Tornado heading straight for it & poor Jimmy🤣🤣 Its ALL about the perfect video at the end of the day😆
There is something that just doesn't feel right seeing a gum tree in the same shot as a tornado, spinning away, the "wrong" way, haha. Great compilation sir, I love seeing tornado footage from places not associated as a tornado hot bed.
interestingly just a few days ago there was a supercell just north of jandowie, QLD with a very defined hookecho and obvious rotation couplet on doppler
We had a big storm in South Aus a few years back. Started in the evening then later on we had a statewide blackout from tornadoes taking down some major power lines. South Aus is 983,482 km² in size. Not millions without power like Florida, but a much, much larger area.
The footage from Vivien Drysdale at 12.57 in, was what Merbein VIC had occur on 11/11/2016 at about 7:30pm but News story mainly focused on Microburst and it's damage that hit about hour later that affected all of main region including across River in NSW.
The tornado in Bunbury hit the bloody pcyc while I was in a dance class like 10kms away and my dad left my siblings home alone. I had soccer next to the pcyc the next day and there was asbestos all over the hockey fields so all hockey games were canceled
was in a micro-burst in hervey bay 20 years ago that must have had tornadoes in it because next day during the clean-up i saw one of those hessian/ seagrass doormats that you wipe your feet on at the front door UP IN THE POWER LINES! soaking wet and full of sand they weigh 40 pounds , how did wind get this to the power lines? one hell of an up-draught....
✅World's deadliest spiders ✅World's deadliest snakes ✅World's toughest animals ✅Devastating cyclones ✅Tyre melting heat waves And now.. ✅Tornadoes Nobody told me this when I moved here.. 😆
They seem as taken by surprise as a lot of us would be at encountering a tornado. No innate sense of the approaching danger. They may not exactly be rare over here but it’s not tornado alley either
For those from other countries, tornados are extremely rare in Australia. We get Willy’s and Eddies but they are little. I’ve live here all my life - the last 30 in NSW, and I’ve only heard of 3 and one of them was caused by the 2019/20 bushfires. (Of note they were all in the last 7 years)
Did anyone else notice sumthing fly into top part of the screen from the right with speed then stop change direction out towards tornado @ 8:59 min mark

Only have a few angles on this one. Unfortunately the best footage has been taken by “others” and is being profited from by those who will give nothing back to the person who filmed it. We work to help share revenue from this channel and assist with licensing. But can only do our best when public simply don’t know where to safely send their content for publishing and licensing.
There was a tornado in Grays Point, Sutherland Shire a few years back. I was hit. Though it was late at night. As far as I’m aware the BOM didn’t confirm any touchdown, but there was definitely ground circulation when I looked outside.
How is it that Gary Lamerton (last video in the compilation) has more videos of this Australian tornado, than the plane flying in to the Pentagon on September 11 2001? 🤔
Because Gary is a legend and took the time to setup CCTV cameras on the building and assisted in formally submitting the video to Severe Weather Australia
Where is the best place to hide in your house if one of these things is circling up the street ? Bathroom? We don’t have cellars or bomb shelters in Australia!
Basement, bank safe, a cemented room with no windows. But because the Australian government doesn't deem tornadoes as something to worry about, houses won't be able to deal with simple EF2 strength. Unless you are willing to spend a disgusting amount for that kind of property or shelter. I live in the UK, so anything above a strong EF1 is super rare to non-existent or has never been recorded in a certain era.
A closet or a bathroom that has no external windows. Climb in the bathtub and cover yourself with blankets and wear a helmet if possible. In a closet sit and crouch down covering yourself as mentioned for a bath tub. If caught outside safest place is a ditch, lay flat in it face down with your arms wrapped around your head. And under no circumstances ever seek shelter under a highway overpass as it creates a wind tunnel effect (Ie in the Twisters movie) There should be some allowance to allow CFA station alarms to also be used for tornado sirens if the need arises, we are poorly equipped to deal with them here.
@@chase_with_jase Thank you very much, I really appreciate your detailed answer. I have a newborn so I like to try and educate myself for any/all situations, no matter how unlikely.
Had one his Hawker, South Australia 1998 - it wasn't a strong one and didn't see a funnel. But the start of the first footage reminds me of the weather I saw and my brother recalls seeing a funnel.
We had one in Paralowie in SA snapped small gums like they were twigs. Seen one in Freeling a few months ago when we had a massive storm. It only lasted about 30 seconds when touched down in a paddock
There was a tornado near Yamanto this year 2024. Thats near Ipswich !QLD. Pretty close to me. I didnt see it, it aint that close. Its amazing that we get them here.
My daddy was on a crane in Perth Western Australia on a very stormy day when a tornado formed and no one knew except him and his colleagues the tornado tilted the crane and blew the building into the river
Seen a big one in the outback.. Other time a 100 meter strip was cut threw the forest all trees across the road in NT trucks used chains to pull trees off the road.
I've seen one funnel in Qld. That's it I'm afraid. SEQ gets lots of supercells - I wonder what "secret sauce" is missing that stops them from dropping many tornadoes.
