The time zones suite us South Africans just fine in Europe. Now that we can host 100% capacity in our stadiums it should get interesting

My fear is a potential superiority of the URC over the Premiership and Top 14 because the last 2 are structured in a very different way. However i am delighted to witness this change for the spectacle aspect of the Champions Cup even if i dread it at the same time, if i make sense. We enter a new competition, a new area. Cheers. ( i would also like to know how the trips to South Africa will be organised)

Through Supersport and Vodacom, South Africa brought 65% of the revenue with SARU taking home 33% while Australia and NZ brought in 12% respectively and both unions took 33% home. The thanks SA got was having the door shut on their faces by both NZ and the Aussies at their most desperate time. We should have left this abusive relationship much much earlier in my opinion. The fact that we stayed this long is just beyond me.

It's maddening being a Aussie Rugby supporter, even with out 'congested sporting landscape' we still manage to put out good teams an play interesting an exciting rugby, but every foundational improvement in the administration of the game almost inevitably leads to 3 steps back, with a half pike and self Immolation a regular highlight. I just see the Rugby dying here in Australia. The crowds are getting smaller and smaller every year, this year was terrible. It is still quite expensive to get tickets to a game. Seeing the crowds at NRL vs Rugby is just heartbreaking. You have to think why they don't just drop the ticket prices and fill the stadiums. I hated having to get Stan just for the Rugby. I was okay with Fox as I have that anyway. Not even going to start on the wokeness of the ARU
@aeasthouse316
@aeasthouse316 2 года назад
the problem here in Aus is as you said the wokeness and political meddling of and within the ARU. They just killing their own game. Remember the whole Raelene Castle fiasco? Qantas is not helping as they are epitome of wokeness that led to the whole Israel Folau saga. As you said, ticket prices are too high. When you make decisions like that, wow you know the organisation is in serious trouble. Unless they start their managment from scratch, the game will die in Australia.

I’m a South African living in Australia and one thing I can understand about Australians is no-one wants to see their teams lose to kiwis week in and week out. During super rugby AU the guys at work were talking rugby and the games were supported. Then came the trans tasman and everyone lost interest. I reckon if they go alone and persevere through the initial lean years, union in aus will be bigger than league. In the end the better product will win.

From a Scottish person looking in on the situation I 100% agree. I would not be interested in watching it if The Australians went it alone. To be fair it would be the same if Glasgow & Edinburgh went it alone & departed from The U.R.C & The S.R.U brought back The Caledonian Reds ( North of Scotland) & The Border Reviers ( South of Scotland ) I would find that dull to watch in comparison to The U.R.C. dont get me wrong it's difficult for Glasgow & Edinburgh to be competitive in The U.R.C financially but Glasgow have certainly punished above our weight getting to two finals when it was The Pro 12 & Pro 14 winning one & losing the other & Edinburgh have improved this season & had relative success in Europe. I honestly dont see Glasgow getting to another final as a Glasgow fan but it's far better to be in The U.R.C than not in it gives us something to strive for where if we where not in it we would have relatively nothing to strive to achieve it would be pointless. Keep Safe.

NPC is Waaaaaay better than the Super rugby shit
@oneday458
@oneday458 2 года назад
My understanding is that Sky NZ bought the rights to show all rugby played in NZ. It includes SRP, RC, NPC, Schoolboy, 7's and Women's games. So, it makes sense that the NZR deal would be bigger and that it would not be shared with Australia. If Australia do leave (personally, I don't care) I am confident NZR will come up with something great to replace it. NPC used to be amazing before SR was introduced - especially with all the ABs playing for their provinces. NZR will have the opportunity of creating our own NRL-esque type of competition that could really grow over time along with MP and Drua (if they want in). New teams may need to be created and they need to be given assurances and security that the tournament will continue. Therefore, if Australia decide to take their ball and go home, the message should be - you won't be able to come back.
@D4N1CU5
@D4N1CU5 2 года назад
Stan includes the NPC, sevens and women's rugby (Super W, sevens and tests), not a dig just genuinely curious, what Aussie rugby does Sky show outside of SRP and RC?
@oneday458
@oneday458 2 года назад
@@D4N1CU5 NZ NPC has two divisions made of 14 teams in total. The third division which is called the Heartland Competition has 12. The Ranfurly Shield is a challenger competition that runs across and within the Heartland and NPC where the holder at the start of the year is obliged to accept at least 7 challenges. Any home game by the holder (whether NPC or Heartland is an automatic challenge). These games have a strong following in the provinces. Secondary school games (Div 1 = 16 Premiere Teams, Div 2 = 7 teams) and then there is Grassroots - where weekly highlights of club matches around the country are shown. Maori rugby is also broadcast although this is generally just the Maori ABs. Womens rugby at secondary and provincial (NPC) is being shown more regularly as are one off competitions such as Provincial and Club 7's tournaments. So, although Sky does not show every game that falls under the NZRU, they have bought the right to broadcast it if a game/tournament is deemed to be of interest to viewers. This includes Touch Rugby competions at National and international levels. Sky shows very little Australian Rugby below SR in NZ. I'm not sure if we got the NRC games.

rugby is dying in australia. its just too boring to watch compared with afl and nrl. its too much of a forwards arm wrestle and not enough razzel dazzel in the backs for the aus public..... the only way for it to survive is a in a competition with at least new zealand and maybe japan.... and also that the australian national team is successful. maybe changes in the rules to encourage backline play. to make rugby more viewable... exciting to watch....? to stop rugby dying in australia requires decent revenue to promote the game and get young talent into the game. the aru has a history of shooting themselves in the foot..... kicking out the western force, kicking out isreal folau (being political in favouring the gay lobby over the christian lobby), stopping australians playing overesas from playing in the national side. again.... the aru has a history of shooting themselves in the foot..... they will go about this in the wrong way and not get this right.

This really says a lot doesn't it? For over 100 or so odd years, these 3 nations were the powerhouses of international test rugby. They were the benchmark that teams up north always struggled to follow. And now here we are. The roles are all but certainly reversing. Now we have a case of a Southern country moving North, another thinking they didn't need everybody else and another who can't stop moaning and groaning because they don't seem to realize rugby league is far more popular than rugby union. It's incredible isnt it, how much these teams DOMINATED the international scene and then you see where they are today. No-one fears them anymore. And now as of today, it's a complete shambles. Because 3 nations decided they didn't need each other to get where they wanted. Says a lot when you've the Big 3 playing together. It never goes well......

That would also potentially be of benefit if expat players in Japan could be eligible for their National sides. I think the fact it’s in the news is a bit of sabre rattling from either side, to try create pressure on the deal, which is a common tactic in negotiating nowadays. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I could see NZR turning into a Super Rugby Pacifica type league with the 5 Kiwis, Moana Pacifica & the Fijian Drua, for like a Super 7 team. I think with how much more popular SR: Aotearoa you’d get a more stable ticket income but the impact on players playing that intensity of grudge matches as the players Union said, would be a lot for the players. I think RA will struggle without the NZR, but if they could create their own way like how good the NRL is, then that could be good for them, especially if it was competitive and got more funding, they could keep more players AU based. But that’s a big if. I think it would be a shame if the whole of SANZAAR broke up as it’s been such a cool thing to see teams across the souther hemisphere play off against each other like in Europe, but I’m not sure how they’d reconcile a functional deal that works well for both.

Rugby is broken in Australia. The idiom “cannot see the forest for the trees” means that a person or organization cannot see the big picture because the focus is too much on the details. This best explains the current ARU and Wallabies problems. How has it come to this? The future of Australian rugby hinged on a 2023 World Cup pool game between Fiji and Portugal? How has Australian rugby reached this unbelievable low after 163 years of history? The real problem is that we just do not have the high quality players we once had in previous Wallaby teams. How is it possible that not one current Wallaby would make a World 15 team or even a second World 15 team or third World 15 team? No “independent” ARU review will report this because it is to confronting. WE JUST DO NOT HAVE GENUINE TIER ONE QUALITY PLAYERS IN ANY POSITION. The current Australian Wallabies, by their results, are now a genuine Tier 2 international team. So tragic for all those Wallabies who have proudly worn the green and gold jersey…. So sad for all the Wallaby supporters who have devoted their lives to supporting the Wallabies. Only time will reveal how this unbelievable situation is resolved.

Yes - Kiwis are good at marketing and branding - All Blacks, Kiwi Fruit, Hakka and they embrace the Maori symbology and wording. Greed has now entered into the Kiwi mentality and in the old days they just showed up and played, barefoot to boot. The same thing has happened to the America’s Cup as money is driving the event even to the detriment of the Nation. Now, they are going to Spain to defend and just ignoring the Nation that sponsored the team. Soon everybody will be playing in the 12 nations cup in Europe 🤨 and the Kiwis playing on their own - Crusaders A vs Crusaders B vs Northland A vs Countries Manukau C and Chiefs D vs Waiuku A vs Stephen Donald B 😁 Aussie need to go and get more money and I see that they are starting to embrace the Aboriginal Culture which is great. Rugby needs to return to the suburbs and avoid the bigger stadiums. Look at Leichhardt Oval with 10,000+ supporters. Better atmosphere than in a bigger stadium. Also, kids get in free. Cheaper tickets to entice more people to attend. If the ticket is cheaper I'll spend more on food and drinks. Let everyone on the field afterwards to mingle with the players and kick a footy around. Being a Kiwi who has lived in Australia since 1974, Rugby here is a very poor cousin to AFL and League. Current Wallaby coach Dave Rennie has come out against the Aussies going it alone and also the QLD Reds coach Brad Thorne has said they must keep playing New Zealand sides to improve Australian rugby standards. Really Australian Rules or AFL as it is known has the most participation and coverage. League comes in at a very distant second and is concentrated in Queensland and New South Wales. Rugby is played in all states but with very limited participation and coverage.

A few thoughts, firstly Australia leaving might have a lot to do with generating more Australian interest in Australian rugby ahead of the Australian hosted 2027 Rugby World cup. Right or wrong they probably feel that getting beaten by NZ sides for the next 5 years won't help them build support and won't give them much of a shot of winning it. Secondly as a NZ rugby fan it seems to me that the NZRU can't get anything what so ever right anymore, can NZ sustain its own Super rugby competition? Probably not indefinitely. Which is a problem as SANZAAR has long since killed the goose that laid the golden egg in terms of super rugby. So that potentially means that they may need to get more of a premium product out of NPC, only they have mucked with that to the point that it's a non sensical farce. I feel that a 12 team NPC professional "premiership" with one single round robin leading to semi finals and a final is a clear way to go. Leaving an amateur Heartland "championship" probably played in north and south "conferences" in a double round robin with a interisland finals series. I also think the NZRU probably has the most to gain of anyone by helping to organise a proper international "champions" club competition and they they sold a percentage of they're commercial revenue far to cheaply when you think about other deals going on in the sports world. While I'm at it, if they muck up this Irish series then Foster should fall on his sword so they can install Robertson and start sorting out all the other messes that have been made.

Part of the Stan deal also meant a certain number of SR games on free to air, so without Stan I wouldn't be watching SR. Since then Fox has been the one to break 'drama' within RA multiple times. Make of that what you will. One thing I'd like to know is how much financial responsibility RA has shouldered for the Drua, I could be wrong and am happy to be corrected because I'm genuinely curious but I believe that RA has supported them pretty heavily. If we Aussies had an issue with this, it should have been resolved as part of the negotiation. Fox, lost their rights to the Super Rugby by being outbid by Stan/Nine for it. Fox, has a vested interest in making it so their bid can be lower - and still get the Rugby. This change would make it so they get exactly what they always shoot for in the Aussie media, someone else paying for them to get a monopoly over something. First they got the Australian people to pay for them to have a special deal to have exclusive access to Aussie sport (which they then have to pay for). Now they want the Kiwi people to pay them more to do the same thing. Total bullshit. Their business model is cactus, so instead of fixing that, they just screw everyone over they can. They're completely toxic to competition and this just proves it.

I think this is def a money driven issue for the two unions and I suspect they will end figuring something out tbh... my issue is the competitiveness of the comp... As an Aussie I feel the nz franchises are to strong and, while better this year, our teams struggle to compete consistently.... As result the interest in oz has significantly dropped over past decade hence the low ball tv deal... yes, we could go back to 3 stronger teams but that worsens the huge issue we have of player drain to cashed up european clubs and league. I would prefer to see more nz teams to spread the talent around around your country. I think 8-10 nz teams (inc Pasifika) with 5 ozi + drua would be ideal in terms of a more competitive comp... nz rugby given full authority to choose 7-9 franchises as they see fit... would prob involve a provincial re-alignment... question is will a cashed up nz rugby do it? prob not as 7-9 super teams may not be in the best interest of the AB’s 🤔🤷‍♂️🤔... but if they don’t I fear Super Rugby’s day are numbered... maybe not in 2024 but probably in the next 5 years tbh

The only guys I feel sorry for is the Argentinians. Left high and dry because of the break up. I hope World Rugby helps them there to adjust to one or other pro competition.
