What a long strange trip it has been these last 4 years. The biggest of shout outs to Indy, the crew in the studio, and everyone who helped on the production of the channel. P.S Hotzendorf 1919
@Soturian They could actually pretty much just go forward with the world events. At least until the Peace Treaties are signed, but I could see a series on the road towards the next war as well.
"On the 30th the Kaiser went to Spa..." I know, I know it's a city in Belgium, but just can't get it out of my head, that he went to have a nice relaxing massage and soaked in the jacuzzi. 😀
@@KaiserWilhelm1888_II Another Kaiser went to Spa in 1991. His name ? Michaël Schumacher. True story this was his first ever race, the last German offensive to start from Spa ^^
@@duxveritatis2569 2 years late but he really was though. Bismarck himself knew it. He failed to renew an alliance with Russia while also antagonizing the British with his naval buildup
I'm not sure about you guys, but I feel pretty confident about the Central Power's chances of holding out, it might go on for another two or three Christmases.
@@acaperic359 nuking 2 cities instead of launching Operation Downfall was a perfectly rational calculation. Plus, he didn't really have a choice regarding public opinion. Assuming he didn't use the nukes. Go tell to the mother of a soldier dead in late August 45 or later, that you have a weapon powerful enough to make Japan surrender (I assume it was known after Trinity), but choose not to use it.
Its weird how when bulgaria were the latest ones to join the central powers and were the first to surrender and the ottomans being the third to join were the second to surrender

Like the best parties, they came later and left early
All two names (Harry Truman and Mustafa Kamal Atatürk) which is mentioned in this video are soldiers in WW1. And become later Presidents. Just find it interesting and amazing:) *Atatürk is also the very first President and the Founder of the Modern Turkish Republic.
Bye bye Austria-Hungary: one of my great-grandfather fought for them, we still had his picture in his peloton proudly displayed in the living room. The other one for Italy. This is what happened to people living on previous and current borders...
As a french from southern part of the country i can't relate but some family in the north east have members who fought for France in 1870 then for Germany in 1914 , France in 1940 and then for Germany again until the end of the the war, they lost each and every time....
@@ByzantineCapitalManagement ottoman from 1299 to 1922. damn, many great monarch were gone. tsar of russia also gone. habsburg monarchy also gone. the ww1 make the old world order of monarch gone. damn
C'è la vittoria pure contro i turchi con la conquista della Libia da parte italiana, eppure la che è stata più netta, ci sono ombre. Ma tutte le guerre sono così mai una sola teoria.
Interestingly both the croatians and slovenes were part of Austria (and later Austria Hungary) for longer than they were part of Yugoslavia. And even the seperation in 1918 was more peacefull amongst them than in the 90's
Thanks for the ride Indy and crew... We’re not done yet, but the light at the end of the tunnel is within sight-bittersweet. If you’re reading this. Pat yourself on the back. You’re probably one of the very few people who actually care about history today. Be well all of you. I’ve enjoyed this ride with you all.
"With our war so close to being over I am more scared than ever before. At last I can imagine a future. Not one with Germany as victors but one where I see my family again. So now the thought of dying terrifies me, and I pray for a small leg wound and a cart ride back to Berlin."
germeny: dont worry guys i got this! bulgaria: left the game germeny :what turky: left the game germeny: austria you are with me right? austria: left the game germeny: fuuuuuuuuuuuuu Entante: killed germeny game over. press versailles to pay respect
Last week my family received a diploma for my great- great-grandfather's action in WW1 :).It is interesting how I am half-bulgarian and half-romanian,and two of my great grandfathers fought in this war as enemies. If one happened to kill the other,I would have never been born.
" both my great grandfathers" Your math is off. We all have two biological grandfathers (and maybe additional "step" grandfathers) and four biological great grand fathers. If your great grandmother were to have been pregnant before your great grandfather began his final military tour, your ancestral profile would still be complete.
When myself and a couple of my friends started casually talking about a Hoetzendorf vs Cadorna fight, I came to realize just how much of an impact your work has. I'm totally certain that this very channel will inspire many future historians for many years to come. This is monumental work and what's best of it, it's free to use by anyone willing. This is the power of the twenty first century civilization, older generations could not have dreamed of such widespread, easily digestible and obtainable knowledge. Go Humanity!
Still remember men celebrating in the streets of my town when the war ended. The next memory I have is everyone in my family wearing masks because of the Spanish influenza. How time flies. I might also be the oldest man on youtube.
2:57 The Turkish - British armistice was signed on November 30th? ... I think it was October 30th? Perhaps a caption could be added correcting that "verbal typo" ?
There is a little issue with the Viribus Unitis sinking. This is my recall. There could be some imprecisation here and there but still: It was no a torpedo boat. The torpedo boat logged around a manned torpedo. The Manned Torpedo entered the Harbor with two saboteurs, Raffaele Rossetti (the same engineer that developed said manned torpedo) and Raffaele Paolucci, on board during the night. The two places a 200 Kg charge on the ship and were discovred and captured immediately after. This was around 4:40 AM. The sunk the manned torpedo that had another charge on board. This one later sunk a support ship when it exploded at around 6:45 AM. Now this I cant be sure that is true but the story make sense: Once under custody they discovered that the Battleship was no longer austrian as was the entire fleet. Basically the fleet was handed over when they were on their way to target so they had no way to know what was going on. So they warned the Crew of the charges and asked to abbandon ship. They said that the charges were to blow at 6:30. They didnt and the Crew of The Viribus Units resumed its stations. The Charge detonated around 15 minutes later taking the ship down with most of the crew that made it back, including the commander, Janko Vukovich. The two italian raiders managed to survive, probably due to them being better swimmer than most, and were liberated a few days later when the Italian Navy occupied Pola. The Two received a compensation of more than a Milion Lire as the law dictated. Later on they devolved part of the sum to the Family of Captain Vukovich that after the loss was in a precarious economic situation.
Tell that to Fahreddin Pasha... The absolute madman refused to surrender Medina, by appealing to his dreamy visions of the Prophet. His soldiers were finally forced to mutiny (early 1919), in order to end the hostilities. P.S. Please, make a special for the two Ottoman sultans and the Three Pashas.
Austria: Please Italy, let's seat to discuss peace and maybe have some spaghetti? Italy: Ahaha nice try. But your people will eat spaghetti from now on, don't worry!
How would we remember Kaiser Wilhelm now if he had taken that suggestion, and charged into no mans land to die for Germany, as he had made so many die?
And yet he didn't do anything to stop it - same as the Tsar: too much is tied up to the war that any last minute changes is outright impossible to take effect.
inaccurate informations about vittorio Veneto battle. british and french had a minor role (and there where italian troops on the western front as well) and the battle was very harsh, the result wasn't obvious at all
2:43 "Talks take place aboard the battleship Agamemnon and on November 30th an armistice is signed" I'm assuming this should be "On October 30th" Great show, this is the only time I've caught something like that. Hoping to see you guys do more work even after the end of this 4 year masterpiece.
It is strange to think that just under a year ago (previous to the events in this video) Germany had made peace with Russia and had claimed massive territories. If they had of said enough then even a bad peace with the remaining allies would have been a massive victory, but now they will have nothing
A leppo? A cross between a leopard and a hippo, of course. JK, its a city in Syria whose story spans more than the history of civilization, it being one of the oldest places of human settlement on the planet.
Mr. Niedell i like your work so much i watched the boring medicine add all the way through.....i always hit the skip add button asap but then heard somewhere that tubers dont get any $$ if the adds aren't watched, so anyway, well done sir, thank you very much for the hard work, and seasons greetings from Jacksonville, Fl.
@flow @thegreatwar @TGWTeam it says at 2:57 that the armistice was signed on November the 30th, but Wikipedia claims 'On 30 October 1918, the Armistice of Mudros was signed' what is true? what an I misunderstanding?
Just a White man Would that even work? As far as I can tell the events of Kaiserreich are generally random and dependent on the AI, Mongolia general takes the Ma Cliche, Serbia and the Belgrade Pact generally takes Bulgaria, the Cairo Pact generally defeats the Ottoman Empire, and Germany generally white peaces with Indochina, besides that there's not a whole of definitives.
I mean I'd love if Indy points out some of the inconsistency's and weird stuff that wouldn't have happened irl in the Kaiserreich universe. Germany winning ww1 at all is a stretch imo.
**Why were the Brits bombing, and massacring Hungarian, Czech, Slav troops who were walking in large numbers AWAY from the war to go home? What's the point?**
I absolutely loved this series from the first days of the war, but as an Italian I’m quite disappointed on how you apparently underestimate the military achivements of our people 100 years ago
I think the takeaway here is that the Central Powers were fools to wait until they were all but defeated before seeking out an armastice. No sane faction, after four years of fighting and massive casualties, would settle for anything less than a mere pause before effectively dictating terms to the losing side. The moment it became clear to the high commands of the Central Powers that they could not win the war, they should have been seeking armistice terms. Instead, they waited until their armies were falling apart and their lines were collapsing.
Czech pows often volunteered in the arditi units with the Italian army. They distinguished them self against the imperial army aside with the special units. ❤️
Well, I think that it's inappropriate to say that English and Italian troops won at Vittorio Veneto, since there where 51 italian divisions, 3 british, 2 french, 1 czech ana 1 american regiment...
On this day, November the 1st, First Serbian Army under gen. Bojović liberated Belgrade. It would be the fourth time that Serbian capital changed sides in this war.
