This reminds me of a german novel called "Er ist wieder da" (He's back again), which is about the austrian painter mysteriously waking up in modern day germany and trying to come to power again.

Well he was always better on microphone than he was with paints. Not that austrian painter was bad at painting but it was nothing special compared to his speech skills.
