In Puerto Rico, we call the paella de la Valencia, which is paella with seafood. You see being an island there were no meats just seafood. It was the Spaniard who bought over the heavy meat but the Taino native Indians on the island only ate fruits and seafood. I think the reason for it is to distinguish from South American countries have it with meat and I believe in some parts in Spain that have it with meat as well,' is that correct?
@DevourTours

That's so interesting! The original paella valenciana is actually made with chicken and rabbit, no seafood. Since then, tons of variations have popped up across the country, including seafood ones!

Hi Brian! Yes, you can find paella made with other proteins such as beef, chicken, and rabbit. Veggie-studded paella is also great! Just keep in mind that some places prepare their different paellas using seafood stock. Be sure to double-check with the waiter!

I have heard that truly authentic Paella does not contain fish or shellfish. Is this true? If so that would be great because I am allergic to shellfish.
@DevourTours
@DevourTours Год назад
Hi Walt! The traditional paella from Valencia (paella valenciana) features chicken, rabbit, snails, and beans but no fish or shellfish. But because each establishment has their own twist on paella, we recommend double-checking before ordering or sampling. In addition, make sure to avoid "paella mixta," which is a surf-and-turf type of dish. You can find out more in our blog post: devourtours.com/blog/best-places-for-paella-in-valencia/ Hope this helps!

Hi there! We don't get paid by any of the restaurants we feature. In fact, we're the ones paying them! We showcase these spots because we genuinely enjoy them ourselves and want to support them as small businesses, but understand that not everyone will have the same opinion as we do.

The authentic paella is from Valencia. I was born in the city of Valencia and i know what im talking about. The paella in this video is made of seafood, and the authentic paella is made with chiken, rabbit, green beans, tomatoe and artichokes... and the best place to have a good paella is in Valencia of course. That paella in this video is quite good anyway like a variation of paella made with seafood.

What is an authentic Paella in Spain, everyone cooks paellas differently, there is no authentic Paellas, Paellas are cooked all over Spain, doesnt matter where you are from, Valencia is not the best place to eat paellas, a Siesta can be as long as you need it
@DevourTours

Totally right, so many people do have different ways of preparing rice dishes and paellas. But technically speaking, paella did originate from Valencia, so most experts call theirs the "authentic" one!

¡Hola! My husband and I are visiting Madrid, Granada, Valencia & Barcelona (in that order) from October 23rd through November 6th, 2018. We’re looking forward to trying your recommendations. Hopefully there will be a Valencia video before we go. Is it typically a warmer or colder Fall that time of year? I’m trying to figure out if either short or long sleeve shirts are ok and either a heavy or light jacket? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Sorry my question isn’t food related. You guys have done such a great job on that subject. 😉 Thank you!

Hola Maria! Thanks for the kind words! Happy to help with this. You'll be looking at the warmest weather in Valencia, where highs can be in the mid-70s, and coolest in Madrid where highs are in the mid/low-60s. With that in mind, a mix of short and long sleeves will probably be a good bet, with some layers like cardigans and scarves that you can use in the morning and evening but ditch at midday. A light jacket should be fine! We have some blog posts on the topic, which I'll link to here! madridfoodtour.com/what-to-pack-for-madrid/ devourbarcelonafoodtours.com/what-to-pack-for-barcelona/ devourgranadafoodtours.com/what-to-pack-for-granada/

The rice dishes at Can Solé range from 20€ to 40€ per person, and you'll find there's often a two-person minimum when out to eat paella. The range in prices depends on the ingredients you go for. James and Lauren are enjoying the 20€ per person "arroz a la paella con frutos del mar" whereas those on the higher end of the price range feature more expensive kinds of seafood, like lobster or special clams from a certain area.
