Mark, as a spaniard, I'm extremely surprised by the quality of your tour. It's the first time that I saw a foreinger foodie that actually shows the amazing and rich cuisine that you can find in any corner of the country. You had an amazing guidance, you really went to some of the best "temples" in the country, like D'Berto, El Capricho or Etxebarri. You really shown the level of our product, amazing meats and fish, and one of the best seafood in the world. Also, a deep and old tradition that enrich every dish. So, I humbly thank you for that.
Mark is really doing a great job . think the big problem is understanding Spanish food to even order it. Like the pinchos episode I’m dying to try the olive, pepper, anchovie pinchos. Although I like all these foods individually just would never chosen that. Now I’ll be dragging family around demanding we find somewhere that sells it 😂 The steak and seafood in Spain is just to die for. You get home and think what is this slop I’m getting here 😂
Amigo, your series of videos about Spain can be considered today one of the best compilations of Spanish gastronomy in the world. They are unique documents that should be preserved for centuries. Congratulations for the content.
What makes Spanish food so different yet simple is that there is a huge emphasis on the quality and taste of the ingredients. Good quality food does not require a ton of seasoning.
Because they use fresh ingredients that get alot of Light from sun and nutrients from the environment and plus they often use local produce that is organic and grown in near by land. Also the Spanish traditions, lifestyle and culture that influences the food and way they eat.
@@Wil_Dsense also the way you cook it, it is hard, you need to learn from watching a lot, cannot do it from a recipe book. Those who dare, nice risotto, not paella, sorry
@@Lmuas not really, paella is a bit different to cook. A bit of wind, the flame not hitting the pan can affect the timing. Thats just one of hundreds of things can go wrong with paella
As an expat living in Valencia (actually 100 m from the market ) I have to give kudos for this video. It really showed what food is about here and I love it .
Spain is really a kind of gourmet capital of the world, great details on preparations, great skill, and respect for ingredients and traditions. Its a pity that they are not promoting more their own food abroad
Exactly true what you just said, you can have the best ingredients given to 2 chefs, yet both produce completely different dishes, because the main thing you need whilst cooking is a passion and love for what your doing.
Vixca Valencia!!!!!
@Steph Carlo, hahahaha, what a joke, Spain has one of the best cuisines, indeed but Portugal, France and Italy are also on the top of the best cuisines. Spain used to copy Portugal. And both used to copy France. So, the best of the best is France.
As a Valencian living in Bangkok, i struggle to explain the essence of the true paella, as a dish and as an experience. I am thrilled by the good choices you made with the locations and you are very well informed about our tradition. Hope this will help Paella (the original one) to be more appreciated and respected in Asia. Thanks for that, excellent job and keep it up!
I love the traditional paella...I have a friend here in the USA from Valencia and she cooks it amazingly...The flavor is so distinctive from all other paellas I have tried...It is hard to match this flavor, and even harder to make it as a Valencian can...
Unfortunately not if you are an unemployed person, as Spain has one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe if not the highest in the EU. On top of that, salaries are not that high if compared to countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Belgium, GB, France, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Switzerland, etc. Although they are higher than in Poland, Czech Republic, Malta, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Baltic Republics, Greece, Portugal, Rumanía, etc. Productivity is low as in GB, hence salariés are lower that could be. Additionally, the rescue of private banks after the 2008's financial meltdown capped salary growth and consumption as huge amount of funds were allocated to the rescue of banks (i.e Popular, etc) and regional saving banks (i.e Bankia, etc). Having said that the country is amazing if you are a foodie, a tourist, a culture vulture or any other species roaming on earth. Spain should be in your bucket list.... Si o si. The quality of life index of Spain is 13 out of 36 in Europe in 2022, whereas countries as the UK ranks 17, Germany 6, Netherlands 3, lreland 20 and France 19. The full list is shown at www.numbeo.com, and other websites.
How many countries did you actually visit to claim something this brave. Spain is literally one of the worst countries in Europe in terms of quality of life. Nordic countries, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden & Finland are at the top without any competition, followed by central European countries, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland. While I agree that Spain might have a rich history and some unique national dishes (like any other country in Europe), that's pretty much it. Wouldn't want live there God save...
You can’t not eat Paella if you’re visiting spain... That would be like visiting amsterdam and not going to the RedLight District or in the coffee shops😅
Spain and all its corners; from the most remote cities and towns they have places full of charm and with products and recipes worthy of heaven! I am glad to see how you show the world the category of our food, they have no comparison for more than travel. Come back and show the world more corners of Spain. Mark, thank you very much for being such a great ambassador of our gastronomy and our country.
Well done Mark! You are having paella in the proper location, Valencia! Not in Madrid, not in Galicia, not in Barcelona, not in Japan (sushi paella) but in Valencia!!! Finally someone promoting and reviewing the real paella. Dont ask Chef Gordon Ramsay how to make it, or any other chef who just add more distortion to this unique dish. These chefs got no idea, they dare to do false advertisement and risk their reputations. You going to love paella Mark!!!
@@rafagoat575 oh yeah, when they say that “i love paella. So good!!!” ….and you thinking…..”mate sorry but what you liked so much was just a rice dish, not paella” I feel sorry for those though, not their fault they had fool play
@Aphrodite Entonces prueba una paella valenciana en Valencia en un buen sitio, que no por ello tiene por que ser caro y verás como son cosas muy distintas.
The Arabs only brought the rice, not made the paella...This is an art from the Spaniards like their music and dances and all...People can try taking credit for what they did not invent or created...
@@kimaduh1937 Arabs, as you say, ruled Spain for 800 hundred years so you can't consider it ripping anything off, it's our heritage that has evolved over time into what it is today.
I'm from Zimbabwe and visited Valencia in 2015 with my husband as newlyweds. The paella was spectacular! We also got addicted to the orange juice from that region. Not like any oranges I have tasted in my travels
I agree about the oranges in Spain in any of the regions that have them...I tried the ones in Palma de Mallorca...I got a full sack of them and I ate them for a whole month every day...My skin turned like that of a baby...So soft...And the sweetness was like pure sugar...I am from Spain and have family there...
I literally made Spain my first overseas voyage when I was a teen little backpacker. I went solely ust for experiencing paella and Salvatore Dali. Hahah...this brings back great memories of the foods of Spain..and markets...ong the best simple delightful dishes.
You are doing the right thing, explaining the origin and the perfect recipe like a really good host. Congratz, the Spain videos are really the honest and most respectful I have ever seen.
I still have a photo on my wall of a Paella I had in Spain in a restaurant on the beach. The Paella dish took an hour to cook in a 6ft pan, and if I recall OK 6 boxes of rice and 2 large bottles of oil. A brilliant experience to watch it being cooked and then eat it when ready. Your tour brings back very happy memories.
What an amazing video !! Finally I get to know what an authentic Paella 🥘 Valenciana really is .. from its ingredients, cooking method and proper cookware to use . Priceless 🇪🇸 Thank you
Fastest like i've ever dropped, Mark visiting Valencia (my home) and doing justice to what Valencian cousine really is, and how Paella is a dish with an inmense depth, made my day. Thanks!
Grew up making Paella all the time instinctively, and never realized i was making it until a Spainard in NYC told me I was making it. I never used snails In mine. The 2nd version in this video is how I made mine.
if you are still in the valencia area, you must go to "asador el pastoret" a restaurant in náquera, a small village 25km north of valencia, where they make the famous valencian "esmorzaret" (copious amounts of food that you usually eat at weekends between breakfast and lunch)
Hey Mark, I’m from valencia and I follow you for some time. Happy to see you liked our gastronomy and that you were surrounded by experts on the field. You had the authentic experience here. Thanks for sharing it with the world!
Thanks Mark, you have arrived at the Mecca of the most iconic dish in Spain, the Paella Valenciana. You will already know that the PAELLA is the pan where it is cooked. Mention must be made of the famous Fallas de Valencia.❤🥇👍
You need to see the video again. Totally different techniques. It also has very few spices. Spain naturally does have Moorish influence, but not much as far as cuisine (and pork everywhere), with a few exceptions (such as pinchos morunos or moorish style skewers). We do like our chick peas also, in fact Spain's national dish would probably be a garbanzo bean stew with endless local variations (and, again, not a lot of spices)
"You can eat it raw too?" "Yes..." Pops bean into mouth. ""Mmmm...starchy! Oh, ok...but you can eat it raw, right?" LOL. Love these videos, thank you, Mark! Spain is an incredible great food destination.
I'm truly amazed with how much you're actually enjoying it. It makes me so happy to see foreigners enjoy Spanish cuisine (Valencian in that case!). I see you have a passion for food, and you've come to the right country. Spain's food is as diverse as it's people and culture. Hope you have fun wandering around and eating!
Mark, As always yet another amazing video. My wife and I are very big fans of yours. We have been watching your videos over 6 years now. Now that I am traveling to Spain next week, will visit all the places you had mentioned here.
I absolutely LOVE Spain. It is my hope to retire there when the time comes or sooner if I can swing it. As for the Paella you are correct I have never had Paella as good as I had there.
Mark, guy, you have me fascinated. The way you enjoy everything you eat, the ability to tilt your head, squint your eyes and savor your food as you chew and at the same time get those "humm...; ho, ho, ho or wow!" and always with a smile lighting up your face, all at once, it's something sublime. What I don't understand is how you stay so thin with what you eat. It must be the happiness and pleasure of those culinary moments. The moment when your compadre starts hitting the paella with the spoon is also memorable. Enjoy, it's two days. Enjoy our good cuisine and a very strong greeting to all your companions of such great fatigue.
Gracias por venir a Valencia y poner luz sobre lo que es una autentica paella valenciana, menuda hambre me ha entrado solo de ver el video, un abrazo amigo.
Oh my goodness that looked so Delicious..Saffron is such a fragrant Spice..Paco and Tony you are some incredible people. Valencia, Spain I'm so happy you took us along on this Amazing Journey with you Mark.😋❤
My Spanish Nana always served some version of beans or peas with her Paella and Arroz con Pollo dishes. ♥️ The only time I'd eat peas is when she prepared them 😋
Mark you are truly killing it, you show that after years of experience you are only getting better and better levels of your content just continue to increase. Awesome. Ps when Mark says “it’s hot” you know it’s hot.
Hi Mark! My name is Emma Tovar and I live in Valencia, Spain with my mother Kris. My mother is subscribed to your channel and is an avid follower of your food journeys. We just saw the video uploaded today (27/08) about you in Valencia. One of your cut clips was actually of our apartment balcony!! So, it would mean so so much not just to me, but to my mother if we could say hello and just have a conversation with you. Of course, if you’re still in Valencia. We could even maybe show you around if you wanted. Please let me know if you can do anything at all for us. Thank you so much!!🙏
I also love how every place mark visits and eats he tells the story behind it all amazing and educational food always looks good and I love how he brings his family so awesome 👌
11:02-11:29 The vegan community wouldn't approve of that particular scene in this video. Yet they support the idea of lab grown meat. Isn't that hypocritical?
Those butter beans are one of my favorite country cooking sides, especially growing up from the garden. Way better and different than green Lima's. We differentiate because Butter Beans we Grow are the purple speckled or heirloom "Jackson Wonder"... Same family, totally different flavors. Butter Beans cook up a deep brown tan color. We also eat the mature Lima's that are white but generally they're green and the flavor profiles are very apparent.
Been able to visit a couple of times and I truly recommend it, the food is amazing, the weather is great and honestly the people are probably the best part. The night life is truly on another level, they really know how to party. Moving there next year for work and honestly I cant wait.
@@yeraycatalangaspar195 Yeah I already got a job lined up and managed to keep my normal wage (way higher than a Spanish salary). Best of both worlds =)
@@ramonpascual155 Oh Holy Inquisition, where are you? I would report all of you, ungodly Alicantinos for putting peas and red peppers in our sacred dish 🔥
Ohhh my god!!! I love this video do much!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thanks for doing this video of my beautiful city and tasting and showing what a REAL PAELLA is 🥘🥘🥘🥘🥘🥘🥘 Thank you so much, and I hope you really enjoyed the trip to Valencia. But,i also highly recommend that you travel in March, so you can have the opportunity to experience the festival called FALLAS. That's truly amazing ,and nothing like you can see elsewhere in the world. I can guarantee you that. That is a must, when in Valencia in March. 😁👌 Welcome back, any time Mark! 🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️✨✨✨✨✨
Mouth watering...seeing you enjoying food is makes me feel happy ...like m eating with you. Thank you mark for making my life delicious with your food vlog..
I had a famous Cannabis grower do my vegetable garden this year, all organic nutrients, the way he grows everything.the tomatoes were so sweet(as well as the corn) and were the best I've ever had.Everything was the best I've ever had and the garden featured just about everything.(including two cannabis plants.) I truly hope you will,at some point,be able to try such veggies.
Mark, AWESOME! It is the most perfect documentary I have ever seen about the making of Valencian paella. I send you my most sincere congratulations. Many greetings from Barcelona, Spain.
At first glance it looks like it's a variation of Jambalaya, after hearing the history it really is the same concept(made in the fields by common folk or slaves with whatever they had on hand) except with different ingredients. I'm surprised at how few people are at that market. It looks like so much fun.
"Tomatoes so aromatic ", .....I love tomatoes, my favorite fruit. I'm convinced Mark loves everything...or tries to. We need more of that...trying and trying for the best. No judgements. Thanks Mark...
Mark, you are an inspiration for all food lovers but also those who love to travel in order to experience cultures different from our own, needless to say, I love you channel
