Hannie Schaft is a beacon of courage. The Germans tasked with killing her actually managed to only graze her with their first shot. She is said to have calmly said "I shoot better" just before the guards emptied their machine guns
I read about this earlier in the year and I was amazed. War brings out the best and the worst in us and sometimes desperate measures are called for. In an age when we are bombarded with the likes of "reality TV" it only highlights the extroadinary achievement and commitment of those young women.
