As a former overnight team lead I’ll tell you it’s extremely STRESSFUL. You have to close and open the store. The associates and store are on your back. Coaches are horrible and Walmart encourages “conversations” amongst management in the office which is almost always arguments. I left after a couple of months. I would walk 31,000 steps a night, and do several tricks and freight EVERY NIGHT. It was a horrible job and my team were beat down. Some cried every night, and some were afraid to lose their jobs. Most of my team were older folks. It just wasn’t right. I felt bad for leaving them but for the sake of my own well-being and ankles I left. Afterward the store manager, over the phone, after I told him about my ankles and not being able to get out of bed replied; well that’s why your quality of work went down. I hung up on him. Walmart is a horrible place to work. From team lead to associate. A lot is to be blamed on consumerism. Why these people are being pushed to the brink. Rip to all involved and if you work there, please make a plan to get out of that toxic situation soon. 🙏🏾

I work night shift too at a Walmart (not disclosing location out of protection/privacy reasons). Yeah, Walmart’s environment is completely hostile (especially night shift now during this Second Great Depression) since the cut backs from this year. A traumatic event happened at my Walmart in March where a coworker died in the store (I was present but on the opposite end of the store when it happened) because we didn’t have enough people on the floor or enough people on each aisle to check in with each other. A lack of crew members plus the (temporary) manager’s relentless firings (for the most minor reasons, too) - with a negligence toward us as human beings on his part - are what lead to a lack of proper supervision and lack of a buddy system in case of emergencies like this. We lost our coworker because of not only our manager’s failure to communicate with corporate about their quota hours for us each night but also corporate’s failure to treat us as human beings because we have been worked like dogs this year. We are overworked- with the lack of help and hiring (funny how they advertise that they’re hiring when they aren’t really) - and underpaid significantly from the amount of responsibility and work they put on us every night. We work ourselves literally to death. The death rate amongst people who work night shift compared to day shift is astoundingly high. Higher rate of heart related illnesses and failure. That’s exactly what happened to our coworker. He had a “collapsed artery” to his heart. He was in his 30s. This year has been hell. Walmart needs to be held accountable for hiring imbeciles like that and for putting their profits first before their employees. Our mental and physical health is deteriorating at a faster rate than most. And for what? $1.50 more an hour than day shift. It’s not worth it. But it’s the only thing that pays the bills in the area. Just enough to live paycheck to paycheck and get yourself out of debt slowly. But you never get your sanity or your life back.

As a former Walmart employee I can tell you there is nothing I know that would lead me to believe that wal mart "elite" cares about the employees. All they care about is the money. And yes..the overnight crew would meet in the break room . Management in the store that I worked at were arrogant and uncaring. It's so sad that this happened. They portray a happy environment but it's not that great anymore.

Even though people can annoy me sometimes I always try to respect and speak to everyone unless I get a weird vibe from a individual, that's why I tell folks all the time, treat people how you want to be treated.

I worked for Walmart almost 20 ago as a cashier making $7.25 and I’m grateful but I can tell you this, very under paid with all you have to go through. The management was awful they treated associate and customers really bad. Wow it’s sad to hear it’s the same now. Calling Headquarters and customer service is a waste of time. God bless all the family and the people that work for Walmart all around the world.

I worked at Walmart as an overnight stocker and there were a couple disturbingly off individuals that I worked with. One of them was the supervisor who I would describe as extremely self absorbed. Sometimes it felt weird being in the store hearing the Walmart radio music play while there were not that many people in the store. I could only imagine how creepy it must’ve been to be in that break room and discover that your supervisor went postal.

So sad it’s important to treat people with love and respect we’ll never know what could be going on with someone’s mental status!

I can say having worked at Walmart last year it’s a very dysfunctional environment. No accountability and they seem to hire anyone with zero qualifications.

Walmart is and has always been a volcano 🌋 of pressure and emotions on the overnight shift. He was a Team Lead and what Walmart expects you to get done is impossible, yet the morning walks with the Store Manager is just a perp walk of shame. Then after the Store Manager gets done berating you for what you don't get done they always tell you that you allow your associates to do whatever they want ect.....then when they fire you for aka " performance " they will say it's because you failed to hold people accountable. If you don't have a strong constitution and mind, you will just snap and do this kind of thing. Walmart will extract everything out of you and give you nothing back. Its a viscous system and very toxic and designed to burn and turn people.

I think he just gave up. So sad for the victims. Why do we keep finding ourselves in horrible and disgusting this situation. You should NEVER want to hurt innocent people. Nor should you feel like hurting yourself. Change your heart.

There were signs that this employee was borderline and had problems ---Walmart wants cheep labor so I hold Walmart totally responsible for the death of these workers. I hope the families get a good lawyer and seek compensation

Crazy thing is that Walmart just had every employee do an active threat module. And if it’s anything like the Walmart I work at. We were supposed to do a scenario drill but never did. They just made us complete the module as if we completed one. Even though it explicitly tells you not to complete the assignment if you haven’t been trained on it yet. So that’s an easy lawsuit to win if so.

I did the wallmart thing for one shift and a couple hours the next day. The break rooms are horrifying. They have a massive store but the workers are packed into a tiny closet most cant even use the break room they simply walk out to cars or whatever. I was run out because of my age almost 70. I was not even allowed knee pads which there was a case up in the office. all the people are desperate. at "the meeting" i even asked "where did you get the knee pads I will go buy them myself" the person my "trainer" would not even answer "they gave them to me" day 2. I go in and asked about knee pads but refused. after about 1 hour black girl comes along "wheres your knee pads"? I said they told me no. I was the laughing stock and walked out. everyone was laughing at me that I was being run out as older person that "might end up being their boss" it was horrifying. I will be glad to discuss with anyone about my experience including wallmart and the people that were present. it was a horrifying under the radar raping.

He has been working there since 2010..there has to be reports of previous conduct with previous employees or present..if so that's about to be a hell of a lawsuit.smh it's so sad..I work at amazon and a couple years ago an employee came in and shot and killed his ex than shot himself but he lived..were all going through things right now figure your stuff out and don't go shooting innocents..makes me sick

I worked for Walmart as an overnight stocker and that is common practice to start the overnight shift with a meeting in the break room.... can't tell you how many times I've participated. So fucking sad. Especially when your supervisor busts in with firearms wanting to murder you... rest in peace angels

Here's my speculation. The suspect pointed the firearm on her forehead and decided not to kill her because she was a respectful employee who wasn't offensive towards the suspect. The suspect killed the other employees because those employees treated the suspect with no dignity. A lesson learned from this tragedy is that our everyday conduct towards others whether it's your family members or coworkers or even a stranger is so so so important. These tragedy happens when an individual have so much resentment towards a person or persons who hurt them. Moral of the story: Be kind, be loving, be compassionate. Love surpasses all hate. I hope whoever is reading this message can let this sink in. RIP to the ones who lost there lives. May we all learn from this tragedy.
