In this video i have made 12v auto cut off battery charger circuit without relay instead i have used current (shunt regulator 431) that shuts off current at output when crossing 13.4 volts,
Thus protect and prevent battery from over charging.
You can increase or decrease cut off by changing 1.5k resistor.

Amazingly simple setup!!! Please would you tell me which resistor should I tweak to set the TL431 to 28 volt or 30 volt cut off? To charge a 26 volt battery. Thank you!!

Simply change 330 resistor with 10k variable resistor and set cutoff point. (If you want cutoff when voltage reaches 28v, you need to connect 28v at output and slowly rotating variable resistor till green led glows.

Thanks for the circuit and video! Two queries: one is what modification must be done to charge a 3.7 volt battery? And second, I like the idea of decoupling the load with the PC817, could it be adapted to this circuit? Cheers

There is already a charging circuit for 3.7v lithium battery on my channel, Yes PC817 can be used to close mosfet with negative voltage and Led pin 1 & 2 of optocoupler must be interfaced with tl431 shunt regulator.

You can simply use a 10K variable resistor instead of 330R Resistor and use variable power supply to calibrate the cutoff on your desired voltage.

Change 330R Resistor with 10k preset, connect preset middle pin with Tl431 pin 1 and bottom right pin to ground, and calibrate it to 6v cutoff threshold using variable power supply.

In your comments you answer requests for using other than 14V input and give a variety of answers. I am thinking of using the circuit as an add on to a simple bridge rectified battery charger. Could I replace a resistor on the input with a trim pot? Would I replace the 330ohm resistor or the 1.5Kohm resistor on on the left of your circuit? What size trim pot would I use if this could be done?

You can add bridge rectifier as dc source and you can add trimpot instead of 330R resistor to adjust cutoff voltage, but its important to keep dc voltage under 14.4v. That you can get by using lm317 adjustable output with bridge rectifier circuit externally

Can you explain in more detail while I followed the steps correctly. Z44 is still working fine without seeing the green light on when the tank is fully charged, it means that the charger is not disconnected. Could it be because of the TL 431? is fine?

When you change the 1.5k and 330 Ohm resistor. They give the reference voltage to TL 431. When you increase the 330 Ohm the output voltage is also increasing. However, I'm not sure of the design max voltage of some components (e.g. elco).

amigo gostei muito do seu circuito poderia me dizer qual o limite de tensão de entrada desse circuito ,,outra coisa seria possível usar esse circuito em bateria de 60 ampere muito brigado pelo circuito postado vou ficar bem feliz se eu tiver uma resposta aqui no brasil

Esse é recomendado pra essas baterias seladas, se for pra usar em baterias de carro, tem que ser algo mais parrudo senão vai dar 2050 e ela ainda não terminou de carregar
