Auto-tint / Dimming side mirror staying dark - How to make it lighter again. This repair will show you how to get the mirror tint off but the mirror will not auto dim again. Car - BMW e65 BMW
I watched this video more than 10 times to have the necessary information and the courage to do it. and when I decided, I realized that I didn't have the materials (at least the culcking to seal the plastic back as shown in the video), but I didn't stop. I heated and removed the two glasses that contain the liquid, and I have already fixed the two mirrors of my wife's 2008 x5. One of them already had a brown liquid stain on the bottom, and the other had the dark gold tint all along. I wanted to replace the most damaged one, but only one was going to look uneven with the other, so I told myself; I'm going to replace both!!! But when I saw how much they cost (more than 900 dollars for both, and around 300 for the regular ones), I decided to find a way to solve it. and thanks to this video (although it is not specifically for an x5), I had the courage to carry out the process and it turned out to be much easier for me. I only needed to heat the entire mirror enough and carefully remove one glass from the other. This work seems unnecessary, but when you need it, you realize how valuable it is. Thank you very much for your time and desire to share to instruct us, although only a few of us will recognize it and return to express our gratitude. thank you thank you very much.
Great video but if you’re not going to use the auto-dimmer feature then you can buy a replacement glass w/ defrost connections from auto-zone for under $30.00 so I guess weight what your time is worth doing this.
The dimming feature is a nightmare after tinting front windows. This guy confirmed it uses the sensor in the rearview mirror to activate so hopefully some tape over the sensor will solve my problem! That or $30 replacement, so thanks for that info!
Hello enjoyed your video but for whatever reason I can't connect my mirror back in. Its as if there were no connections although there was something enabling it to move with ease prior to my disconnecting. There are no connectors. Do you have email where I can show you with pictures? Thanks
As the mirror glass is so amazingly easy to remove just using your fingers I wonder if somebody swapped their failing dimming mirror glass with yours in a car park - a five finger discount for a pricey spare part! Odd how non dimming BMW mirror glasses used to all need a latch to be released by rotation using a long slim screwdriver through the access hole but now the pricier the mirror glass the faster and easier it is to remove with zero tools - a strange design decision from BMW. Logically the car park you are most likely to have your mirror glass illicitly swapped over would be one with the most similar cars - like a BMW Dealership etc.
interesting, well in the city i live in, i doubt anyone did this, they would just steal the whole mirror or the car, definitely would not swap... and this part is so rare and expensive
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot the password. I would love any tricks you can offer me!
@Major Keanu I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
If your mirrors are faulty and brown and you cant see trought them at all then this is an AWESOME fix. Unless you want to go buy 2 new mirrors ag the agents at R30000
