@@monarchmiracles Ironically exactly 5 years ago today we were pulling into the Sanford station on what would turn out to be our last trip. I took a lot of short videos which I am so glad I have.
Just took it to florida and back last week.. Made the mistake of booking coach, I'd highly recommend a room, had a horrible trip down with a family behind us, snoring the whole way kicking the seats etc. train was 5 hr delayed. Coming back from florida all was well, Amtrak staff is friendly, only real issue i had, again with coach was the seats are just not comfortable for the long ride. Have to get up and walk pretty frequently
Thanks for sharing with us. We also were on the train recently and had major delays as well. It took us 27 Hrs to get back. I am putting together that Vlog. Thanks for watching. @rvickner
Awesome job with the filming and the narration. It was very relaxing and informative. Great job to you both. Be on more trains and you will be a train couple
You're welcome and If you do decide to take the Auto Train, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. I can't wait till my next trip 🙂 Thank you for Watching!
That’s a pretty cool adventure, y’all! Neat. If I got a seat without a seat, and a sleeper car that made me sleep in the ground, I’d be less happy about it than you were. 🤣 So glad y’all could roll with the punches & enjoy a unique trip!
Thanks for watchhing Steve! I can sleep anywhere and we did make the best if it. PS. They would've put the bed out for us it was our decision not to put it out. I'm a bit odd sometimes. LOL
Thank you for making the video and thank you for not turning it into a doom and gloom complaint video. Yes, I would probably had been bothered by not having a chair, but like you, so excited about the train trip they could put me on a box and that would be just fine. Hope you enjoyed the vacation.
Thank you for watching @ravenswood1000. I certainly didn't want it to become negative. I try to be positive, and we did enjoy it. We are planning another trip on the Autotrain later this year! 😊
OMG!! Your vlog brought back memories for us . Your right though the people next to us were very loud, but not during the night thank god ! I hope you got a discount for no chair to sit on . Great vlog!❤
Thanks for the question. The train leaves Lorton to head for Sanford each day at 5PM. The same holds true from Sanford to Lorton 5 PM departure. You can start loading your car at 12:00
Thank you for watching Mandy and Great questions. Yes, it took just about 2 hours to get our car off loaded. If time is a concern you can pay about $100 to have your car priority off loaded, which means it will be one of the first 30 cars off the train. As far as tipping goes, it is not included and yes, I did give our Porter a little thank you. I did not tip at dinner because the cost of dinner was included in the price of the tickets but looking back perhaps giving a little something to the waitress would've been ok. I Hope this helps you and Thanks again for watching! 😊
@@JK-ld8cd That is an interesting question. We did not tip them because they were going so fast, by the time we got to our car there was no one there to tip.
The very last sleeper car is the dorm car where the crew sleeps. Also, we always have the bed made up but leave the bunk part up. We then sleep head to foot and we always manage to get 5 or so hours of good sleep. The bunk isn't comfortable or easy to get into. The chair issue has been reported recently. Hopefully by the time we go again in a few months they'll have them replaced.
Thanks for that Advice Diane. Maybe we'll try that. I really didn't mind sleeping on the floor though either. It worked well for us. Thanks for watching! 😊
If you get 2 sleepers and ask there next to each other , they slide that door open , it is extra but that extra space is nice , , once that train get rolling you wont hear your neighbors nice video
Hello great video, did you mention in your vlog the Auto Train did some updates to there sleeping car because I was just on it last year hoping they was doing updates.
That’s crazy not to sleep in the beds not pulled down. And, even if you’re on the most farward car, you can bearly hear the horn as the cars are so well insulated.
Yes Robert. There is a size limit. Here is a link to Amtrak's website with the dimensions accepted. www.amtrak.com/auto-train-boarding-and-vehicle-requirements. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching. P.S. when we travelled there was a family who had to take there truck down the road to a garage and have the mirrors removed.
That's also interesting. We did ask and they told us there was no option to get us a chair, so we made due with what we had. Thank you for watching and all comments ts are important to us.
Auto Train on-time performance is horrible...and has averaged less than 40% on time, despite FRA mandates that it maintain at least 80% on time standard.
That is for that information Mark. We were on time when we took it and we also were ok if it wasn't on time because we had nothing to do the morning we arrived in Florida. Thanks for watching.
