@@RightOnReplicas ive been a builder most of my life i love watching your reviews especially if its a kit i have never done. The kit prices these days keep me restricted to when and what i can afford. Anyhow keep up the great work and thank you for helping keep our hobby alive.
I worked on 1974 Autocar dump truck this summer, same color (maybe more orange) and options, a bit more aged, rusty and dirty with some parts missing or bent. This kit is accurate, nice detail. Great review, thanks.
Man your videos are always super helpful, the instructions on this dump bed left me scratching my head, ive used several videos of yours over the past few months with new builds!
Much as with Ertl’s International Payhauler 350 Detroit Diesel Dump Truck kit, and AMT’s Caterpillar D8H Construction Bulldozer kit, I had built this one, too. The front left fender of the cab had an odd bend to it, so I just dry-brushed a bit of steel over the painted part to suggest the consequence of a mild collision. I also had used Testor’s little, ¼-oz. bottle of generic medium brown enamel paint mixed with bits of baby powder to simulate thick clumps of fresh mud upon the tyres. Ertl round that time also had released a kit of a dump trailer (I cannot recall its full name), one of which I had bought, that one could connect to the rear of a dump truck, complete with a fifth wheel arrangement that the tractor would pull.

Doug, I've been waiting for you to review the Autocar Dump Truck! When I saw the new upload, I couldn't wait to watch! I just finished my version of the AMT Autocar A64-B semi tractor and I absolutely enjoyed it! I can't wait to build the Autocar DC-664B Dump Truck! Excellent job!
Hey Doug great build buddy! Red look good really set it off with that chrome dump box. Mine should be her wensday, got it off Amazon... Glad u got this up now I know I won't have any problems! Thanks again and have a bless day. Stay safe my friend.👌
Joe, It can be daunting but - practice makes perfect. Spray a "test" model just before you paint your kit model. It will give you the feel for the technique and help ensure success! I’d been considering buying one of these kits but I’m not willing to do all the necessary clean up of the parts. I didn’t see many parts that weren’t covered in flash and/or large parting lines. I’d say this is a prime example of tossing parts from old molds into a box with new graphics and hoping builders will either twist the parts off the sprue, glue them up and not care about the end result or builders that are willing to spend hours cleaning up to get a decent end result.
SR, Right on all counts. If you buy an old mold design you'll have to put in the work for a satisfactory build. It's the subject matter that counts. On the other hand if Tamiya was to pop a crisp new copy of this old tractor I'm sure everybody would pony up a couple C-Notes for one! -Doug
Hello again. I am in Section 5 SPRING AND REAR AXLE of this awesome build; the first step in a Section 5 shows installing 2 anti-skid controls. I cannot find this step of these parts in your video of your build. Nor is it clear to me just how to install these two parts; whether they install on the inside of each side of frame or on the lower side of each side of frame. Can you clarify? Thank you.
DS, These go "sort of" inside the frame behind the cross member. Watch this review for a better explanation ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P1r3yBPFZeQ.html. It's nearly the same frame. Thanks for the watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
Just wondering why you do not assemble the entire chassis assembly including axles and suspension subassemblies and then paint the completed assembly one time? Is there not a lot of paint being sprayed by assembling the individual components onto a painted frame and then painting those subassemblies?
DS, That's a good question. The answer is that it's the builder's discretion to paint the components individually or not. When you do it that way, you get precise color and sheen delineation at the joins. There's also no chance that you'll miss any of the joint areas in the corners due to light spray. CK, Occasionally the makers will actually update the kit to make it more realistic or as another version. Thanks for the info! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
BigC, It's all about the subject matter but that's what we try to help modelers with. Just follow along with the review and it's a lot easier to complete! -Doug
