The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari is a motorsport circuit in Imola, Italy, which hosted the Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix until 2006. Due to the fact that a country is not allowed to host two Formula 1 Grands Prix, the race in Imola was handed over to the mini state of San Marino. Since the race track is only 80 km from Maranello, Ferrari's headquarters, the race in Imola is also considered a home game for the Scuderia. It is one of the few Formula 1 circuits that was driven counter-clockwise.
Imola has been back on the Formula 1 racing calendar since 2020. The race was named after the Emilia-Romagna region in which the track is located in Italy.
The race track was opened in 1953 and goes back to an idea by Enzo Ferrari, who wanted to build a small Nürburgring here. There were no chicanes in the layout at the opening; the Tamburello curve was the first of a lap, the Tosa the second curve. In 1968 the track was renamed Autodromo Dino Ferrari after Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredo (Dino), who died young. After Enzo Ferrari's death in 1988, the name was expanded.
At the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, first Roland Ratzenberger had a fatal accident in Saturday practice, followed by Ayrton Senna in the race a day later.
