What I did to get resources was build an astronium to scrap mashine that then uses trade platforms to get every resource, but I never thought about automating the gathering of the astronium. Thanks for the idea!
TBH the only reason i unlocked the auto extractor was to get astronium in high efficiency. Fun fact: a Full green bar of auto extractor can extract 400+ (as far as my large canister goes) resources and you can overclock it using nothing but 3 zinc wich makes it go a LOT faster when it is using only 1 power or you can do it like that.
@@Gilmar.Oliveira by using delay repeaters you can turn them on/off in perfect timing for canceling the winding of the extractors. making them faster than the normal 8u/s when it uses any ammount of power. (on that playthrough i ran it on a qt rtg) it is really easy to pull off + there are a lot of tutorials.
Ive been looking for someone like this to play with, I love logical type stuff so even though you might not see this please tell me if you would like to play!
Also my only criticism that I have. "And it only my personal pet pev" is that you tunnels are not big enough to clear the train canisters without clipping. Otherwise very cool.
I like how all this reminds me of chip architecture lol. Love the video, seeing it work helps me figure out similar ideas on my own down the line. Thanks.
Did they patch the glitch that train stations out of render, didn't active the delay relay occasionally? I had the same setup but occasionally the train didn't sent off after the delay. Also have you tried auto storage with trains running around in a circle with the arms picking items off and into storage as it passes. Just replaces the arms passing from one to another around.
havent had a problem with the delay sensor not working far away. in my chemistry lab train video i try to use auto arms and a train together but for a full sorter line to work the train would have to move very slowly to give enough time for arms to grab the units when the train is out of render distance. from my testing that method is even less bandwidth than the auto arms.
You can just change the repeaters to button repeaters, the train will load/unload by the time it starts going, and if it needs to wait for longer for more space, you have other issues.
I like your idea of collecting all resources available from the extractors. I'm trying to figure out a similar process (same procedure) but with more trains with their own tracks to individual resources.
Can I add an idea to your idea? Make 1 train go to 1 resource, and then make all the trains converge onto the same track to empty their resources onto the sorter shown in this video. Then, they separate and go to their designated resource again. I have no clue if that would work at all, though, just decided to brainstorm with you 😊
This is really cool, this is what I always imagined people would use trains for even before they added them to the game. Is there a reason why you don't use large silos on the train itself? I assume the storage you have now is just already enough to empty all the auto extractors when it's running constantly?
actually this was created in adventure mode and then i duplicated the world and turned on creative to make the video easier to make and understand. glad you like it!
idk if you have tried this but C.O.L.E is faster than your normal train so that could cut down the time from 6 minutes to maybe 5 but I'm not sure if there would be any problems doing that but if you haven't don't it its probably worth a shot
cole works fine, but ultimately if its brings up 5 units per extractor every 5 minutes or 6 units every 6 minutes the extractors are pulling the same amount out of the ground that has to be put through the sorter so it doesnt really change the math
jsut started playing astroneer and holy this game is so good that sometimes my head starts to hurts, i need to do infinite power somehow, i tried it with solars on this alien cube on north but it doesnt work properly sometimes, i guess i need maybe flat surface but idk how
Perfectly Flat and upside down. Only way I know is leveling blocks on top of gateway. At North it South Pole. Or easier less efficient way is putting them on every side of gateway ( at poles), they won't all work at once, but half will always work. Couple wind turbine and batteries helps
@interslice - I have an interesting video showcase/concept that you may find worth going over. Do you have a social media I can contact you directly on such as discord?
This looks amazing. How are you getting around the saving bug for electronical stuff? We made simple signaling contraptions, but they seem to break after loading the game again and they need to be redone. I can't imagine you having to redo the entire factory every load!
good question. the reason is that while COLE makes the train move faster, it doesnt change how many resources are extracted from the ground. as long as the train has space for every resource thats been extracted the speed of the train doesnt actually change how fast resources are transported in total. it makes each trip go faster, but they carry fewer per trip. since you can only have one COLE i use him for trains i actually ride on
Wouldn't it be much easier with overclocked extractors and one large canister at each station? So instead of waiting hours to fill half a large canister you could fill multiple at once in about 45 to 65 mins. 4 overclocked seem to fill a full large in 45 mins from my experience
overclocking the extractors would make it extract more per min, but having storage at the extractor vs up at the base makes no difference as long as the train has room to bring it all up every time it comes by. large canisters are also not as easy to automate transportation as the non canister storage will transfer instantly from station to train and back to station. this train works all by itself and collects all materials at once, and transports all of them back to the base. that would be very hard to do with large canisters at the extraction point. there are ways to extract more quickly, but if your transportation or sorting cant keep up then it wont work in an automated way.
@@interslicer i get what you mean, but the train can only bring a limited number of a times, the overall time takes roughly about 15 -20 longer than filling a large and transporting the whole canister. Versus possibly 24 at a time
the limit isnt the capacity of the train. the train can be expanded with large silos to hold much more. the train is bringing every item that is being extracted, if you extracted more you could carry more. the limit is the sorting speed which is why i have set the extractor speed the way it is. the train could bring many more resources to the base, but they wouldnt be sorted. in your example you can extract many more items, but unless you sort them all manually it will just clog the system. its not about being the fastest its about being automated
@@interslicer even if you altered to train to have a larger limit, you pull in about 8 chunks of quartz every 6 mins (and 8 was a generous guess) it takes you one hour to get 48 chunks, roughly over 8 hours to fill a full canister (not overclocked) it's not a matter of limit, it's allocation of resources to extract said resources. Look I get the automatic processing, it's neat. I on the other hand like to accumulate as much as possible as fast as possible, i think a video for players like me would be super cool
@@interslicer sorry I missed the second part. I leave a large canister at the extractors and just pick them up on my way around, slot it into place when I get back to base. No fuss or mess
the stations have both output pins (that send a signal when the train arrives) and input pin holes (use the ones in the front) where if a signal comes it it will send the train out (if it is in) or call the train (if it is out). so to make this work you need the station to be set to stop and load, and its output pin to be connected to a delay repeater which is connected back to the station input pin hole. then a train comes in, its stopped and loaded and also triggers the delay repeater. after the delay the signal triggers the station to tell the train to go again. try with maximum delay and reduce it after confirming it works. also the delay repeater can be put directly on the station output pin for a cleaner look but it will work if its on the ground and the pin is dragged over.
@@interslicer where are the input and output pins? I set them up just like you did. I have 5 stations that work and 3 that dont. If the train is full those that work, send the train. Ive double checked the settings on the stations and they are all the same. Stop all cars and load cars except for the station that takes everything off, that one does work and sends the train for another loop.
pins are what the sensors/repeaters connect with. output is the one you drag, input is the slot that it can be dragged to. each station has two of each
@interslicer got that. I've got 1 station that wont work. I replaced it with a new one that I made and same thing wont work. I added 2 stations. 1 works 1 doesnt. Same setup on both stations and same as the ones that dont work. I dont get why 1 works and and the next doesnt. I have 8 stations and 2 arent working. Same setup on all stations.
