Products Finishing visited Varland Plating in Cincinnati, Ohio, to get a tour of its new line that was designed and installed by Corrotec Inc. Joel Perrine, V.P. of operations, highlights and describes some of the unique features of the new automatic equipment and software as well as the team’s challenges when during the design process. He also points out the benefits of automation that Varland has experienced it its own capacity. Since installing the line, the company has enjoyed a 33% improvement in its electroless nickel plating process.
Electroless nickel plating is a process used to apply a layer of nickel to a substrate without the use of an electrical current. Unlike electroplating, which relies on an electric current to deposit metal, electroless plating uses a chemical reduction reaction to deposit nickel.
