It begins with some sights at the origin point of most Vermont trips, in Boston, with memorials dedicated to the American revolutionary war. This theme continues with monument dedicated to the battle of Bennington. There is a look at some attractions such as a quarry, a Maple museum, and the Santa's Land USA, Christmas themed amusement park, and the Trapp Family Lodge -- owned by the family made famous by "The Sound of Music". The Trapp Family Lodge is a resort located in Stowe, Vermont. It is managed by Sam von Trapp, son of Johannes von Trapp of the Austrian musical family, the Trapps. It was formerly known as Cor Unum (Latin for One Heart). The Trapp family was largely fictionalized in the 1959 musical The Sound of Music. Baron Georg von Trapp and his wife Maria left Austria shortly after its annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and settled with their family in Vermont in 1942. After the Baron's death in 1947, the family expanded and operated their home as a 30-room ski lodge. The ski-lodge was later expanded in 1968 to fit twenty more rooms.
Jack Poppele opened Santa’s Land, a popular roadside attraction on Vermont’s historic Route 5. The Christmas themed “storyland” like park, was a gift shop complete with toys, ornaments, and Santa figures year round. Opened in 1957 and it ran for over 50 years. Sadly, Santa’s Land closed its doors for good on December 18th, 2011.

Loved this! I am a New Zealander who grew up in Boston and NY. I remember many fantastic summers camping in Vermont. Given that the clips on the Von Trapp family didn't mention the 'Sound of Music' - I assume this was filmed before the stage show and movie.

It looks to me as though it were filmed in the early 1960s. 😊

Probably almost at the same time as the movie, newest cars I see are 1963 models and the teenage boys of the family visiting Grand Isle haven't yet grown their hair out Beatles-style.

6:40 It’s interesting to me that the population of Barre was down from 12,000 to 8,447 in 2021.

Barre City or Barre Town? ("Town" refers to what in other states would be called a "township"). If it's just the incorporated city it'll probably drop further, and Montpelier as well, after recent flooding - the historic centers are right alongside the Winooski River and there's plenty of higher ground nearby. Downtown Barre's a lot busier than the filmstrip shows. The intersection at 6:35 is a major traffic bottleneck and when they redid the main street 10 years ago they should've put in a roundabout but didn't, presumably because the granite trucks couldn't navigate it, so everyone else gets to wait 5 minutes plus at double red lights without enough room for traffic to come in for the next one.
