Prints and solid colours to illustrate how Soft, True, and Dark Autumn are related. Plus, why Nature is where colour harmony begins, the answer to timeless design, why we look most amazing wearing our own colours.

As a person who deeply values thought processes, I am grateful for this video. To understand the thoughts of someone who has done a lot of heavy mental lifting regarding decisions on color / fashion is fast - tracking me to a better understanding of how to conceive of this process I am in. It helps build a voice from within to listen to rather than to be forever dependent on an outside voices for direction. I grew up with all hand-me-down clothing in a financially challenged situation. The first new piece of clothing I had any influence in purchasing was when I was 18. I hardly ever took time to understand this stuff. During the pandemic I had / have time to learn about things that I never had time for. I have been appreciating your videos so much. Thank you.

I appreciate your explanation of the value you find in these videos. I had the same experience when choosing a colour system to follow. The legwork had been done in terms of the colour classification. The principles and process made sense, held together when questioned, and were consistent across the entire system. I learned some theory and practiced, without having to build a system from the ground up. When I had questions, I learned to trust that I needed to observe Nature more or differently and the answers were already within the system. By observe Nature, I mean that Nature put our colours in us so a good colour analysis system designs experiments (the analysis process) to let Nature solve the experiment while we observe what happens. Sounds strange applied to fashion but organic chemistry lab was no different :) Once humans over-explain Nature to suit themselves, well, you know, one wonders.

I think looking at landscapes which have colours that reflect seasons helps to understand why particular colours belong to their pallets and why some don't. For instance, when you see Light Summer landscape, you see why black doesn't fit there🙂.

I agree, landscapes have helped so many people understand colour harmony. Thinking of, "Could my clothes belong in this scene?" is easier than being objective about how they look on us. It's amazing to me that our colours have the same harmonies as the natural world and so useful for our appearance because the same principles apply.

True. Then you realise you don't need to wear black to look "strong" or the opposite - you don't need to lighten your appearance to look alive if you are a Dark Winter or Autumn.

I have a cardigan that is a medium to dark taupe. I used to not like it, until I learned about the color seasons. I am a true autumn and I can wear the taupe cardigan like someone else would wear a charcoal, because it looks grey on me. It's really fascinating to deep dive into color.

That's a good observation about the cardigan. A colour that could be quite colourful on another Season can become a neutral when we wear it, and with other colours, it can still be a useful item of clothing.

@@ChristineScaman Learning about the color seasons has completely changed the way I look at clothes. I've been watching through your videos the past days and you are a thoughtful and lovely teacher, it's a lot of fun.

Have you made your hair and eyes warmer for this video? They look more golden here.🧐😉

I don't change the makeup, it's identical in every video to this day, and the hair colour has been my own for 8 years or so. What happens is, the places I've lived have not had great daylight and if it's winter in Canada, it's even darker for longer. With all the extra lighting and how all the colours change differently in response, plus the editing to lighten the exposure, I can look quite different in every video (and from my natural self). It's funny how people do a mental adjustment when we meet in person :)
