I feel like with the hand Nickelodeon dealt them back then, they were able to perfectly flow the story along in a three-season saga. Not too much, and not too little! Not to mention, they essentially had a feature film divided amongst four parts for a Finale which was unheard of in the early 2000s!

I can’t believe he thought ozai’s reveal was underwhelming. He had an evil voice but then when you see his face it makes you think he’s actually happy his son is back. His expression was so kind . Then slowly you see his true colors . It was very important for the story and I think his reveal was perfect.
@PruthviG8
@PruthviG8 3 месяца назад
He was mainly talking about how they drew Ozai. He wanted one of our first thoughts to be about how Ozai & Zuko look alike but in animation it's hard to do that facially since it's less-detailed. Like by just looking at Sokka & Katara we wouldn't think they're related just because they have the same skin tone & colored eyes.

I have an abusive father and anytime someone sees what he looks like or meets him after hearing stories, they are always shocked. He's not a big person and seems so normal. As a kid, it made the impact of Ozai's reveal resonate more with me. Like, this is the big bad? I also look a lot like my father so people are shocked by that too. Much like Zuko is Ozai's son even in looks

I always felt the thing of Ozai's face being a big reveal was that it was built up in our heads but then when he's shown to just look like a normal person it's sort of meant to be a reflection of Zuko and Ozai is what Zuko could become if he grew up a certain way

Few shows can claim that they're still remembered, talked about, and cherished by millions of people, kids, adults, and new & old fans, like Avatar: The Last Airbender can. I think of 04', Jan 05' I remember kids talking about it non-stop in school) might be the same as Star wars to people growing up in the late 70's/early 80s. The impact on young culture at the time and still being talking about more so 20+ years later with more work happening, it's beautiful

We talk about certain episodes being light hearted "filler" episodes, but the beach was integral to Zuko"s growth. Its the moment he realized and admitted that he was angry at himself, that he regrets his decision at the end of book three. Filler episodes tend to be defined by their lack of plot progression, but they can still have character moments that are just as important as plot.

I had asked this on twitter, but i feel like doing so here might also be something to do. at 26:00 you are talking about the two firelords before Sozin, and what their names would be. I was wondering if the "Mystery Firelord 1" could have been Zoryu from Shadow of Kyoshi, or if the timeline doesn't make that work. Cause the flowers around him being stylized Peonies seems reasonable, but it's also a period of about 213 years with only two fire lords before Sozin which could be pretty long gaps.
