I've always remembered her performance in this. Myself now an actor (and not knowing back then I would be) I continually think of this performance of hers. Absolutely breathtaking.
I love that scene where Jake is running out onto the garden and churns up the soil with his toes, there is something emotional with that scene. The joy of being able to run that so many of us take for granted
It's remarkable to see how ridiculous they look while doing the performance capture in those crazy get-ups, but when you see the finished scene, it's undeniable. They captured the subtle emotion and nuance that occurs in facial expressions during human interaction. Everyone on this movie did some pretty amazing work.
This is very similar to how Shakespeare made his plays. When a character hid behind a bush or interacted with the environment, the actors would use basic props. So it does not surprise me what James could get such a good performance out of the actors despite having no elaborate set. It does not take millions of dollars in set design to get a good actor into character. However, today it does take billions of dollars in computers for people to like it.
this is why its the best film of 09 now that the tech is there...they can focus on all the plot and detail for AVATAR 2 people think this movie is bland and lacking story....but what they fail to see is the undertones of life and what is now possible with this tech...or maybe people lack seeing into the story...I feel this is better than having it all playout for you. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE NOW! thank you for this powerful story James...
Some VERY clever and talented people who worked on Avatar and The technology it took to make was way beyond anything used in films before even Titanic was a masterpiece. So looking forward to the next Avatar films and James Cameron is a master at film making.

Honestly, every time I watch this movie it always takes my breath away It almost feels like i'm there! Especially when I visit animal kingdom's world of Pandora Who else here has ridden Flight Of Passage before?
Hands down the best detailed most well constructed box office film in American cinema Cameron is a genius for this and I’ve watched the behind the scenes of this film so many times and I learn something new about what he did to get this together and it blows my mind this is what film is all about
I actually think Kathryn Bigelow deserved the Oscar for Best Director, but Best Picture definitely should have went to Avatar because 30 years from now, which film do you think people are going to look back on and say, "Wow, that was so groundbreaking at the time!"

Amazing. Even though PEter Travers thought that James could have directed this in 1998 without all of the special effects, I think they needed this technology
@akf2000 actually in some cases it does...people go to see it multiple times over and over again. Now they are saying it should not be Num. 1 because of inflation. But it deserves every dollar for its release and is truly the best movie story and visual effects wise ever made so far.
Looks to me like the next step in this technology was predicted by novelist Neal Stephenson WAY back in 1995, in his book "Diamond Age". I do like the sense that this kind of performance is more purely imaginative - like what we did as children - than motion pictures or even theater. Great fun!
11years now and still have this movie kept in my hard drive and the new movies nowadays,and still not tired of watching it 4 or 5times in a week..an amazing movie at all times!
There is a 1 almost 2 hr doc on the full behind the scenes of how Cameron and the team created this film and it is the most fascinating thing I’ve ever encountered James Cameron is literally my favorite and most inspiring director and the video pretty much explains why he is labeled the king of Hollywood it’s a must watch if you are interested fully of how this film was made
Definitely extraordinary! those actors are damn good! Directors, producers, animators etc. OMG! AMAZING! Haha I can barely explain how much I love this movie! I've already seen this movie twice in theaters! I cant wait for it to come out on DVD! All the work that was put into this was worth it because I totally felt like Jake! take me to Pandora!! LOL

@@enzo1468 i cant say the vfx is up to date.. But every other aspect stories and acting, if you really want tk see good movies see some south indian movies. Industries like malyalam are superb. And tamil also has some gems in there too
james camron is leagnad of the century no one can be like him he do in the 5 year what bollywood industry even can not do in todays days bollywood industry iz biger than th Hollywood but not evan be close to them in movies
OMG took my breath away, to see how this was made....... wow. The actors did amazingly. Jim inspired me to continue working on my rpg game, and to write again. Its good to see that there are still creative people in this world, and that technology can help us so greatly. To be able to do something like this.... I only wish i could have been part of it to work with him must have been an experience that no one could forget. A creator that never gave up and created something beautifully amazing.
