Not necessarily. It depends on what you would define racist as. That's what I'm trying to say. I wouldn't see that as racist. The way she reacted was not hateful. Just like "awwww... hahaha I was really hoping I was actually this since I identify more with it" Type of reaction. So no double standard here. Not with me at least.
I kinda understand:I discovered out I have less Native American blood than I thought in my heritage and found it strangely disappointing.It doesn't make me racist or a bitch-just how I felt.Most people in America like to think we have different bloodlines-makes life more interesting....I'm just as proud of the Scotch,German and Irish:)

I saw it myself,it was on PBS.Her reaction wasn`t "awwww..."type of reaction.I could understand that one. Her reaction was "What? No!"I don`t want to be European" type of reaction.And there is incredible double standard when it comes to presenting contemporray race relations in our mainstream media, with incredible bias agianst people of European descent.I have no doubt that ,if she would have reacted in the same way to her 13 % African roots, that would have seriously damaged her career.
I understand your point. However, what I'm trying to say is that it's not about anti-white. Europeans have a bad impression on these islands due to colonization and such. We don't fond of Spaniards, not just any white in particular because obviously we have white skinned people in our countries, a lot. The point is that we just don't really like to say "oh we're european" because we take more pride in our indigenous and African roots. Not being racist.

She didn`t say anything about wanting to be more African ,or "taino"(I don`t know that term),she did say,however, about wanting to be more American Indian,maybe that`s what "taino" means.Based on that particular show I am talking about ,she wasn`t particulary fond of her Dominican roots,and when they said that she is like 10 % African she showed no reaction to it, but she showed negative reaction to the fact that she is 70% of European descent.That, to me, is disgusting and racist.
