Something else I think a lot of people forget is that Azula is only 14 years old, so seeing her like this at the end is even more heartbreaking, seeing the monster her dad turned her into and it gets the point where she has completely lost herself and she's just locked up crying Fire

@MrIsaacSTorres Месяц назад
I don't think putting the blame on Ozai is completely right here. He didn't turn her into that, since she was a child she was perverse and kind of out of balance. Even Ursula questioned that: "What is wrong with that child?!". Of course Ozai exploited that, but she was already propense to that. At least in my opinion of course.

@@MrIsaacSTorresoh she is a true born psychopath for sure, but with the right guidance she could have learned to control that too. It would have been no different than mastering lightning for Azula if she applied herself correctly. Its cold and deadly, and you don't control it, but Azula definitely has the willpower to manage it. If Ursa had more time, she might have been able to treat the psychopath in Azula with love and compassion, and taught her to use the condition like she would her firebending, but with a healthy respect for the damage it too could cause.

@@MrIsaacSTorres We all know that Azula is a psychopath and nobody is disagreeing with that, what I'm saying is that she is still someone you feel a little sorry for at the end, seeing what her Dad turned her into, she definitely had those psychopathic tendencies and nobody is denying that, but her and Zuko we brought it up in the same environment but she was nurtured by her father while he was nurtured by their mother and because Ozi, himself was also somewhat psychopathic, he raised her to be the perfect little soldier never really gave her any experience like you see in the beach episode she never had any social experience she was just a soldier that's all she ever really was and just seeing her at 14 years old even people with psychopathic tendencies like at 14 years old to be betrayed by your friends to be betrayed by your father to have everyone think that you're a monster that's obviously going to weigh heavily on you not to mention that mental illness is a disease and she is clearly mentally ill and needs help and with the right help she could've been better, she just unfortunately was born a little messed up but even people who are born a little messed up can be somewhat healed they still have those tendencies but they can be nurtured better and sometimes it doesn't work but it is nature versus nurture and then her case she had no nurture and our experiences that us we let's not forget that, even if we still start out kind of messed up you don't have to end that way, and we know it's not just that side of the family thing either because Iro isn't like that and he is obviously also related to Ozi weather he got it from his father or grandfather Susan and it was passed down to Azula or whether him and Azula have those tendencies, obviously we've seen that Susan and Azul have similar issues as well but I don't think they were quite as messed up as Ozi was and then obviously with Azula saying things like Dad's gonna kill you or grandad's gonna kill you to Zucco and then also you know doing horrible things to him as a child and like not even caring that he was alive I don't think all of that is her fault I think it's true psychopaths don't always feel emotions but the fact is that in the end she fought her brother and wanted him to die multiple times even before he turned good which is partly because of her psychopathic tendencies but also fled by her father because he pinned them against each other and Zucco was always made to look bad and he wasn't really good at fire bending and clearly Ozi saw something in his daughter and knew he could use her and whether or not he really loved her is I guess up for debate although it seems like he sort of did but did he even loves Zucco we don't know, it would've been different I think if he had a different person or if he was just the ankle and it was the mum and Iro who were the parents I think that would've been very different, I know that when it comes to Iro he also kind of started as a bad person, but he always had some good in him like Zucco from the beginning it's just that he didn't embrace that side of him until his son died which is fair enough, so he's the best example of nature versus nurture I think, we know that a Youlon clearly loved Io and didn't like the way that Ozi when about trading older brother either so I think Azula gets it from her father and they're both kind of odd ducks and she's just worse because something went wrong in her childhood because of him, the debate is how much it was nature and how much it was nurture but he definitely nurtured whatever nature driven thing she had developed as a child or from birth whatever it was that was wrong with her and that definitely damaged her, I don't think she would've been so messed up in the end crying like that if things have been different she still would've been messed up but in a different way I think I think she would've been a little bit more balanced although still a little nuts, but that's just my opinion.

Azula is a tragic character. She was born , I think either slightly psychotic or slightly sadistic and her dad (esp when he ran the mother out of her life entirely with the banishment) basically nullified any influence her mother might have had and worked to encourage her sadism (as well as her undeniable physical and mental talents) for his own ends. She's the 'good daughter' so long as she is the 'good tool'. And she was such an integral part of his success that I think that Ozai cared for her as much as he could care for anyone besides himself: not much but a teensy little bit. That's why he sufferenced her 'temper tantrum' when she was upset she was being left behind from the attack on the Earth Kingdom. He showed unusual patience and then gave her the rulership of the Fire Nation as a reward. I guess what I'm saying is he actually acknowledged her efforts and he didn't mean to hurt her when he made the original decision. That's as 'nice' as Ozai can be. Anyway, she breaks down here for all the reasons you state: she has lost everything. What's worse is think of the internal mental state of a 14 year old girl who thinks "Fear is the only way" to keep friends and allies. Who thinks her mother hates her and, in her current mental illness imagines her mother actively plotting against her. While some of her suffering is Karma and I hardly think everyone needs to feel nothing but sorrow for the 'queen bitch' (I remember those little kids and the sandcastle. ) I think one can feel happy that Karma has finally caught up with her, while at the same time feeling some sympathy, acknowledging her upbringing isn't all her fault, and while hoping she gets the help she needs to learn to love and have a brighter future.

This show really have the perfect ending. The way the characters grow, the way all of them have their own conclusions and how they had to fight for it is just done to perfection. Avatar The last Airbender truly is a masterpiece, didn't need a remake or adaptation, the show did all correctly and is really hard to change that. Really love your reaction of this show and hope you keep going man, a recommendation if I may say should be Adventure Time, you may think is too childish but is a series with more deep than you will expect from, is crazy fun and sometimes insane but that's the vibe it had.

I'm so glad how much people are finding out about and enjoying the show. I normally avoid talking about Avatar with him normally, but during a six hour car ride I asked Kisu about the show. Just wanted to let you know that something you didn't catch, I wanted to point out to you, is that Toph couldn't send bend originally, if you remember when they were in the desert and the sand wasn't something she was able to feel very well which is how the sand benders were able to take Opa, well sand bending is a type of earth bending so they were just a different type of earth binders so it makes sense that she could eventually figure it out, it just took her a long time because sand is very different from earth it's like we're fine earth or refined dirt but I guess after mastering metal bending sand wasn't really a big deal, but people kind of skate over it when she says that I think, because a lot of people forget that she couldn't sand bend or how much of a big deal it was when they were in the desert, but I like that they threw that in there to explain that yeah now she is truly ready to fight she can sand bend she can earth bend and middle bend, so obviously mastering metal bending was a big deal but the fact that she can now also sand bend is also a big deal as like I said it was something she struggled to do before as with her blindness she couldn't feel things as well she even said that it wasn't like regular it was really difficult on her feet she couldn't feel what was happening so for her to be able to feel the sand well enough to make that little kingdom out of sand is actually more impressive than people realise, as like I said moving sand was so difficult for her before she couldn't feel it so the fact that she has been able to do it now shows how far she's come and what she's capable of doing, as like I said before it wasn't something she could do so her being able to do it now is a big deal, again a lot of people don't notice but I just wanted to point out what a big deal it actually is as I noticed you didn't pick up the fact that she was like oh it was impressive but I don't think you or most people realise how impressive her being able to do it now actually is.

Some of the more beautiful traditional hand-drawn cartoon animation (though there was some computer animation, like the airships). All the actors hit it out of the park, but special mention to Grey Delisle as Azula. Making us feel for her as we do after everything she did took some real skill. Also, the music. Jeremy Zuckerman the composer of the show paid out of his own pocket so that the score of these final episodes could be performed by a live orchesta. And now you will have to rewatch the whole thing for the hidden Lion Turtle references. And why is it so great, though? It starts off all right with an interesting premise, but lots of shows do that. But somehow, miraculously, it managed to tell the whole story and then end in absolute perfection, and that was it. And that is so, so rare. Shows that are this smart are often pulled too early because they are slow to reach their audience (Firefly!) or they start off great, are a huge success, and then the network wants more, and more, but the story is told, the way is lost, it gets milked dry and it jumps the shark; Game of Thrones, looking at you. This was a show for kids, and they loved it but it is almost like the adults appreciate it more because they have already been burned so often but here they get that truly satisfying story with a great end. The good end.

I'm not sure but I think when Aang took away the fire lords bending, he might've done more than just that, I know that's like the main thing he did, but based on how the fire lord looks I think it must be more than that, we know people can still kill and still do a lot of things without their bending like there are so many non-benders like Sokka for example and if he were bad, he could still use his swords to fight people, it be more like it is in the real world you know so imagining that but the fire lord like in our real world we don't have benders so people could still do a lot of damage with swords and stuff, I know that taking away has bending is supposed to be the equivalent of taking away someone like Hitler's power and locking them in jail but it has to be more than that because he could still break out and still do stuff I know they could put him in a high security prison but even without his bending he'd still be pretty dangerous. So I have to imagine that can't be all Aang did too him.

Azula's mastery over firebending allows her to perform advanced techniques like creating intense blue flames, using fire to propel herself into the air (essentially flying), forming protective fire shields, and creating sharp, shuriken-like flames. He still had to use all his training to win, he still had to make the choice to kill or to not, and he still had to summon the stalwart spirit and will to retake control of the Avatar State AND successfully energy bend Ozai without losing himself. I really hate how this near-perfect series has basically ended on a Deus Ex Machina, instead of having Aang actually learn his lesson. I think in the end, Aang should've killed Ozai, at least in self-defence... But sadly, his character never really progresses. Despite all that he's gone through, he never learned anything, and kept on avoiding his responsibilities as the Avatar....Only saved by the writers, who gave him a last minute cope out...
@remo27
@remo27 Месяц назад
What is his lesson? The airbender Avatar only gave him permission (his duty is to the world and if he has to or chooses to kill the airbenders won't blame him) not an order and arguably Aang chose the better path. After all, to Ozai, who worships power, losing his fire-bending was pretty much losing his manhood. And saying Aang never grows because he doesn't kill: Have you forgotten him getting over his fear of Fire Bending (because he hurt Katara) and acceptance that , as the Avatar, he was a Firebender as Guru Patic taught him? I think you are confusing your distaste for the ending(probably because you hate Ozai) with the entire show. In fact, I love this show because just about every character gets at least some character growth.

That he can't keep always thinking about himself and avoiding his responsibilities. The whole point of him learning Earthbending was to learn that there are times when there is no clever solution, and no way of avoiding the situation, other than just facing it. A proper way to conclude his arc would've been to kill Ozai and learn to live with it, not saving him with a Deus Ex Machina. SPOILER: Does Harry Potter ever spare Voldemort? Guru Patik tried to convey this point for those who hadn’t gotten it up to this point - self-mastery, mastery of “spirit”, is a power greater than any other. Killing Ozi would have just shown that Aang never achieved a Spiritual Mastery that Ozi, Azula, and even the rest of the Avatar Squad barely even know exist. Him solving his problem through someone else’s death doesn’t bring any sort of enlightenment- which again, is the entire point of this Intro to Eastern Philosophy Kids Show. Kill / Destroy External Threat = Happy Ending is Western Philosophy. Balance / Find Harmony w/ Internal & External Hardships = Happy Ending in Eastern Philosophy I know this is all an oversimplification, but I don’t want to spoil anything in the next series for anyone. To use what we learn in this series, the Lion Turtle talks about bending not the elements, but the energy within ourselves. This is also show to affect energy outside of oneself Across the series, this is referred to as Cosmic Energy, Spirit Energy, etc. This comes down to themes of control vs. being controlled. Avatar Aang is the name of the last episode because Aang is finally in control as the Avatar - in control of his powers, the final fight, his destiny, and his spiritual state. Having all of that shown only to have Aang have to end up doing exactly as the other Avatars said he would be forced to do would be a total reversal and betrayal of the story of spiritual freedom the writers were telling all along.
