Critics are too harsh on the show giving it a 7, for someone that fell in love with the animated series, I think they nailed this live action! I couldnt name any live action that actually lived up to its animated counterpart
7 is warranted. The show was god but took liberties in places that I feel were not needed and that kind of lowered the storytelling quality. Some of the liberties they took were actually quite refreshing, like Han being a better character and Azula’s backstory along with added context to Iroh and Zuko, but some decisions like making it so Aang taught Bumi a lesson and having him learn from Roku only once this season whereas Roku is pivotal to season 1, or just the way the way they decided to do, say, the Siege of the North made it somewhat more stereotypical and cliche.
Rurouni Kenshin installment were really good. Death Note Japan version and One Piece were also good. There are also few adaptations but not as good as the 3 above mentioned. I also like this Avatar, i love the fact that did some changes and they didn't do it scene by scene from the anime for the sake of not getting brutal criticisms from die hard fans. Tho there were really some things that could have been better; some were under acting, some camera angles and speed of fighting choreographies and some more. But these can be apply on the next season/s. I still love it. I think 7 is a fair score.
Yup, gotta agree. Some of the writing/dialogue/delivery definitely needs to be worked on. Other than that, it’s pretty decent. Though the cgi could use a Tiny bit of touching up, the ladder is all in really worried about. And I hope they follow a bit more of the story from the animated series.
7:50 Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is like the IRL version of uncle Iroh. I've only seen him talking good things about their work partners (especially Dallas Liu). Dallas, Daniel Dae Kim, and Dallas Liu, alongside other actors, carried the entire season. Which I hope keep getting at least the original story of Aang vs Ozai. Because I wanna see Daniel's Ozai vs a developed version of Gordon's Aang that started as a naive 10-12 y/o with a big burden on his shoulders, which is being the inheritor of the bridge between the spirits and the humans. But in this case, Gordon itself had no expierence carrying the burden of playing the main character of one of the most loved cartoons from the 2000s. My eyes would tearbend if I get to see the end of the live-action version of the Legend of the last Airbender.
the series is just starting and gordon looks promising, we know that he's not yet out in the world when TLAB came out so its understandable that he may have a hard time mastering some of aang's happy goofball kid trait. it's also his first series as the main character (i think) imagine the responsibility yall putting on this kid???? however he still did good on portraiting of what an "live adaptation" version of aang will be. lets be realistic, a kid with a big burden on his back wouldn't be all playful like he is on the animated series. he's sad and he's stressed for a 12 yrs old boy and gordon portrayed it really well. we have 2 more seasons and im looking forward to it, i hope the writers up their game but all in all the series is great and gordon is great kid.
Seeing the native community was really surprising and exciting! Growing up I never see natives in big Hollywood shows, other than “historical” movies and I’m happy to see the representation in one of my favorite animations!
Now realizing how wicked Fire Lord Ozai is.... I really didn't give thought to the fact that Zuko was banished when he was only 14 until he mentioned it. So young with such burden. I now fully understand his desperation and i love Uncle Iroh even more for standing by him ❤
Wow, I've watched it already, and it's amazing! Fantastic live-action adaptation! I can't wait for the next season! It's action, drama, fantasy, and comedy-all in one! They're all amazing! Gordon is a brilliant actor for his young age, and he is so cute; he has a million-dollar smile too. Dallas is a versatile actor, he's amazing actor. Kiawentiio and Ian are amazing too. Paul, and Daniel are very good too. All the cast members are really doing a great job.
Was it bad? no. Could it have been better? yes. Theres alot of simple tweaks that should've been made. There's not one ounce of menacing vibes from Zuko. Yes he's fourteen but he did not grow up like most fourteens. Major points of the characters were missed like Katara gaining respect from Master Paku and how that all really turned out, the point of these characteristics of all the characters were a bit missed on. 7 is a fair statement and still a great achievement. I hold alot of hope for season 2 for sure
Udah keren bangett pdhl semua elemen nya d tampilin d series ini .. tp aku nungguin roh hutan berubah jd panda .. tp ternyata scene nya gk ada But it's oke .. ttp nungguin bangett S2 nya
I appreciate that the cast truly worked so hard I think they did amazing plus they all look like the characters! I can’t wait for season 2 and 3! People are already judging the show so harshly I’m just like really quit being babies 👶 plus we are literally on season one jeezs! Anyways I can tell that they embraced the original series unlike the 2010 movie!
Imo sokka couldve had alittle more humor. I understand the seriousness of some of the situations but the jokes they did give him were not frequent. I think he couldve used alittle more balance of seriousness and funny.
he mentioned on one of their interviews that he's aware of how effortlessly funny sokka is on the animated version and he's kinda wanna portray him on that level but they cannot do the thing on the animated series where the characters face is all jumbled lol kinda wish the writers put a lot of sokka's funny banter and some ad-libs just to kinda level up his character a bit on the comedic side of the series.
ok @cinemablend… great interview seriously! but to the person putting together the animated references in the middle of the interview - 5:01 - please, do your research before you put the reference in 🤦🏻♀️ that was General/Admiral Zhao, not Firelord Ozai (cue all the “do they all look alike to you?” references!!!) other than that not so little flub, great interview, loved the live action series! can’t wait for more!
Thought the show was great. I don't like the things they yanked from other seasons to move up. I don't like that ozai and azula are so prominent. The introductions and reveals of azula and ozai were some of my favorite moments In the animated series. Sucks it's totally ruined by just having them consistently have sidebars to almost no real effect.
They left a lot out while intentionally hinting at the stuff they left out… I felt some of the dialogue and acting in some parts could’ve been better. However, it stays relatively true to the animated series and with further episodes/seasons possibly coming, Improvements can still be made 💯 all in all, I give up t a 7/10, with the fight choreography and casting basically swaying me to like this adaptation. I look forward to seeing what they do with the upcoming seasons.
I think Ken Leung killed it as Commander Zhao. He took a sort of 1 dimensional character & made him more nuanced. I appreciate the writing change & Leung’s portrayal so much.
They need to let the actor who plays Sokka let loose. They sooo should j let him improv away I trust him I feel like they kept him a bit too serious or flat at times this season and he can easily elevate every episode. Iroh also killllled it.
