I wanted another hour of them exploring Planet Pandora lol. I purposely didn’t drink anything in this movie for the first time ever. Didn’t want it to end.

Thats the first movie in a while i can say genuinely made me cry. I hate to say it but james cameron is a freakin genius

Love both avatars. The amount of hate these movies get is honestly ridiculous. The story isn't mind-blowing but the visuals and action scenes make up for it and are honestly once in a lifetime. People are more than happy to rewatch the same generic comic book movies yet avatar gets so much hate when the technical aspects blow almost everything else being made out the water.

I loved all the scenes with Jake’s son where he rides the giant fish thing. Also the last hour was amazing as well as the emotional ending

Cant blame the spider guy. They told him they got a tracker on his helmet, and we’re gonna send him back to them mad scientists to get tortured if he tried running. Anytime he could of helped the navi he did what he could. He weren’t switching sides more liking doing the best he could with the situation he was in

Avatar 2 has made some cry and even sob because of the richness of the story and characters. That speaks volumes. T2 was just a 2-hour chase and you end up mourning T-800’s sacrifice

I feel the movie introduces Lo’ak in a very beautiful way. I think he carried most of the emotional beat with his motivations, his actions and his consequences. Pretty much when we go to meet the Metkayina clan in Awa’atlu is his story to tell. Im not mad that the focus shifted from Neytiri and Jake to his children because is essentially the same plot of the first one, just grander and I would even say crafted more beautifully.

It is visually wonderful! James Cameron is at the top of his game. Lo'ak and Tsireya were my favorite new characters, and I thought their performers excelled in their respective roles. It was so cool to explore the waters of Pandora. But when compared to the first (a near perfect movie), the overarching story is not as well structured and Quaritch's new persona is not as impactful. My audience was going BONKERS during the final act (and rightfully so). I am very conflicted with the film as an overall piece. I ADORE the first film, so I had sky high expectations. The visuals exceeded them, but the first act and setup to the conflict was just so clunky/messy.

James Cameron said that the planet is large enough to make 5 films and each territory on the planet will be the focal point in each film. So I imagine water is part 2 and a jungle might be part 3 but you got the idea

I had that same feeling about comparing Jurassic Park's theatre going experience when i watched the first Avatar.

James directed Aliens and Terminator 2. Enough said. Also enjoyed the Abyss and True Lies.

The cynicism around Avatar has gotten downright annoying to me.

I liked the character Kiri and how they incorporated Sigourney back into the film, glad they didn’t go the “clone” route like Aliens 4

I didn't have kids when the first came out and didn't really care that much for it. Now that I have 2 kids with one on the way this movie moved me to tears and I was not expecting to like the family drama so much. A drastic improvement over the first and the last hour and 20 minutes are Gold. Nonstop action. I can't believe it, I had no exception and now I'm pumped for three

Great review, I watched it last night here in Australia and mostly agree! The bit where you said after 5 or so minutes you wanted something else, to me that entire section was my favourite part! I wish they had even more of it! To me that part is where I could see the toil and effort of all the cgi artists/technical finnese that went into filming under water 😊! Like this morning I'm on the train and the real world just looks kinda boring 😅... Definitely a must watch in imax 3D!

I still remember you talking about this sequel few years back with Arnold as the possible bad guy and towards the climax, he will be donning his own blue form and fighting Jake to death. Good times.

This was a movie that was better for me on a second viewing, had a blast with this absolutely loved seeing it both times in imax 3d

Totally agree on the part about the water looking better than actual water lol. I know it sounds ridiculous but it's true. I am actually glad they slowed down the plot during the Metkayina tribe scenes. I could just solely focus on the visuals of the ocean and the creatures in it. So, for me the slow plot during that part was a good thing.

The plot leaked online yesterday for Avatar 3 and I must say it sounds good: Jake Sully's son, Kevin, is left on the island alone while his parents go on vacation. While his parents are away, the island is infiltrated by Jeff Bezos & Tim Cook like figures called Culo Mojados (which translates to Wet Bandits or Wet Assholes - I failed Spanish class so I'm not sure). The Bandits start chopping down trees so they can build an Amazon / Chipotle / Apple store so it's up to Kevin Na'avi to stop them. Kevin uses the skills his father taught him to plant booby-traps around the island and fight them off. Because the film will have a budget of 5 billion, James Cameron has to skip the 3D cameras and instead theaters will offer THC gummies instead to enhance the theatrical experience.

When it comes to 3D effects in movies some of my most memorable experiences are "Parasite"-1982 film, "Godzilla"-2014 film, "Haunted Castle", "The Hole", "Resident Evil: Afterlife", "Life Of Pi", "Pacific Rim", & of course the original "Avatar". As for "Avatar: The Way Of Water", I have no doubt the 3D is nothing short of amazing. The IMAX 3D showings were sold out this weekend so I'll be seeing it next week. From "Piranha 2" to "Avatar 2" James Cameron loves water & entertaining his audience. Never bet against him. Nice review/discussion.

I made it through the whole movie without going to the restroom. It wasn't easy and i'm very proud of myself.... The only thing that i didn't like with the 3D is that the backgrounds are out of focus. This is normal with 2D, but i feel that in 3D you should be able to watch everything in the scene in focus, since you have the 3D effect.

Watched it at the cinema tonight in 3D, I have my little nit picks but mostly I thought it was amazing, the water effects are mind blowing, looking forward to your thought's in the spoiler review.

It would be awesomeee if Cameron would make in the same attention to details an adaptation of Warcraft . Realistic CGI with elves and orcs and armies..... We can only dream....

I love the original and I was really hyped beyond belief.... and it exceeded my expectations I was truly blown away loved it.. seeing again Sunday morning this time in 3D. This is maybe better than the original.

Sounds like a repeat of the first one. Everyone is praising the visuals and nobody praises the story.

The best way I can explain how I feel about watching the movie is for so long block buster movies have felt like college essays. You have to have point you're making and every single word in that essay has to have a purpose to back your claims. It's just very plot driven and unimaginative. But this avatar movie made me feel how movies used to be. A window into another world where it would happen with or without us watching. It was very refreshing to spend 3 hours back on pandora. Also side not go watch indie movies. Expand your horizons. For a good part of my life movies were a dread to go through after my childhood. Until I had a job and was able to pay for my tickets back in 2017 I found love for movies again as I found that movies never really stopped being movies just blockbusters changed into cashgrabs.

You wouldn't actually want a 4K Blu-ray of the original avatar, it was filmed in HD so the best you're gonna get is an artificially upscaled version, no bueno.

It's so funny you mentioned the "human" haircuts on the military avatars. It completely took me out of it as while, Jake had a short buzzcut in the first movie so why did his avatar just look like he had super long hair in a braid? I think the "idea" of the braid and what it actually is still needs a lot of explaining to do.

This is what all of the "professional" reviewers don't understand. THIS MOVIE IS NOT MADE FOR YOU!. It's made for simple ppl with no background in movies or cinema. This is why all you lot find it cheesy and trivial at times. For this reason I take movie reviews with a grain of salt. It's like Max Verstappen reviewing a BMW 3 series... of course it's shit for him because he drives a F1 car.

It's weird how extra frames cheapen the experience, more should better, but alas. Though I personally don't mind, but the distinction is clear.

If there was ever over 3 hour visual documentary on another planet, it would be called, "Avatar!" Just don't expect more new awesome stories along with it, in my opinion. Still don't get people fascination with these movies, though. I guess, everybody has their fetches. Lol.

This is a TRUE MASTERPIECE film!!! Never a dull moment. Grabs your heartstrings and also thrills you in so many ways. Oscar worthy in so many ways!

I'll never understand the hate for higher FPS. It literally makes things look more realistic and life-like. It's OK if you are accustomed to 24 FPS, but the only reason you are is because that's traditionally how you've seen things. Humans don't like change, even when it's progress. It's one thing to dislike it personally, but it's a problem to be forcing your taste on others man.

This movie should have went straight to VHS. Waste of 3hrs.

I always laugh at CGI characters. Even as much attention to detail as they did in this film unless the hands are specifically needed for a shot they look like action figure hands. Like at 13:13 Her holding the bow with fire raging in the background the hand on the bow looks like a Mego doll. Hands are a bitch to animate so it's a severe nitpick but it's all I see when I watch CGI films anymore.

I peed twice before it started I was good I just sipped up my soda I didn't chug it. But anyway great review bro glad you got to check it out and watch it I think everybody is very excited to finally see a 13-year in the work movie. Visually amazing James Cameron did a fantastic job of giving us the sequel because this just expands the world of Avatar. And that's what a sequence should do call backs expand the character roster bring the village back it'd be entertaining that's exactly what it did I'm not sure why the movie's getting so much hate to be honest it's kind of sad but whatever you can't please everybody

I hated the switching from HFR to smaller fr IN THE MIDDLE OF FIGHTING SCENES, I get it that HFR might be hard to implement in the fight scenes (or idk) but it just made me eyes bleed to see the frame rate suddenly change in a fast pace scene

Honestly, it just felt like the original movie but in water to me. It even took scenes line for line from the original movie, and not even in the few that were "look how little people learn" sort of way. I dunno. I guess if I want to have to hear the message "humans are evil" yet again, I'd rather have it in a more entertaining story like Ferngully.

I was ready to hang, drawn and quarter this movie because of the rediculous comments from John Cameron lately and that this is a Disney backed movie but I’ve seen it and I can confirm that it definitely doesn’t deserve the hate - maybe though I’m just relieved that it’s not another woke movie pushing politics and narratives, and it’s actually a good movie, if a little long….

I enjoyed it. The problem I had was the villain. Would have been more interesting to find a new threat to the family that’s not Quaritch. Maybe a war with a tyrannical Navi from the other side of pandora causing havoc across the planet.

Hi John, thanks for your upbeat exciting review. Really glad you enjoyed the film. I.personally believe reading Avatar in 2009 in stunning 3D was the driving force of the films success. The world had never seen such a visual masterpiece. I think because Avatar 2 is not being released in 3D is really going to hurt it. Now you've said it was in 3D, but I was told it's not re k easing in 3D apart from a non glasses 3D, but only at rare specially equipped cinemas. Now I'm a bit confused, or did you see it with glasses or a specialised new non glasses 3D screen? You've kind of convinced me to go and see it, as I was potentially going to skip it.
