I just read the title. I'm not going to make a joke about it. We all saw this coming. We all knew Jon would forget about at least one thing that is vital for life. At least it's not ftl and he has oxygen for the poor humans in this colony. And hey, at least there is no law against prohibiting sex or anything like that. Any leader who would enforce such a crazy rule would obviously be mad.
Jon, I think that maybe letting the colony slowly grow around a central point and using the speed up button may have served you better than rushing partially empty production. Maybe do a little route planning. Keep it to one spaceport you can turn off. Build up the basics in advance of slowly getting more people in and don't build more until things are manned.
Came back to this one. Jon, SO much thanks for showcasing this one. Its one of several games I have (re)acquired as a direct result of your channel, and this game is a delight!
"What's happening with the food?" Me: YOU SET THE FARMS TO LOW PRIORITY *years pass* "OH I SET THEM TO LOW PRIORITY Me: It has been so long I forgot about that!
Of course you ran out of food, your entire food production system was reliant on farms that turn off in winter, instead of the greenhouses that still work!
I will say that in this game the biggest limiting factor is power, eventually your power requiments become just gargantous, simply getting more power becomes an unsustainable task unless you plan well and spread around and have enough Nanites, that was how my first colony in this game died, we didn't have enough power to power water pumps, which meant we couldn't make enough food and then people stopped working because they were starving and dehydrating to death, eventually they started dying in droves and then because I didn't plan well the harsness of winter got us, that is the end of my colony "ISwearIKnowWhatIAmDoingTown" Also Jon Greenhouses are way more efficient in terms of food per tile, they only take four tiles of space and then to produce I think around 20% more food than normal farms, and the more you upgrade normal farms the more tiles they take from the area around, also Greenhouses are more efficient since they work in winter, so they are able to produce a small amount of food which makes it so that you don't loose food so fast, instead of building a Zorium Generator you should have built batteries and a Thundertower I forgot the real name, that fills batteries and protects from lighting during winter, and you can use your battery power to get you through winters.
he puts the farms to low priority for winter and goes thru half of spring screaming about food before noticing to turn it up. and doesn't ration the food to extend stock levels during winter even with constant food warnings
jon get tropico it is similar to this i think there are five tropico games now numbered accordingly in short it is a city builder island dictator simulation
A lot of people being critical of your management here, but your correct use of "indirect fire" in TW makes me think you're a great despot of Best Space Korea.
See, part of me thinks that this looks like a game that swiftly snowballs out of control. Then I remember that instead of following the logical progression for a colony in which food should always be the top priority before anything else. Jon instead decided to say "Screw you guys, I do what I want." and has, as such, found himself wildly snowballing. That and, the second spaceport was probably completely unnecessary.
Jon, are you planning to check out the Norsca dlc for Total War Warhammer? I think you'd be surprised by how much the game has improved since you played it when it first came out, with all the dlc/flc that's been added. The campaign game experience, particularly, has been greatly enriched, even if you don't own the dlcs, and CA have made the later factions much more interesting in terms of campaign mechanics.
Amusingly Jon didn't actually win the scenario - While he did build the pre-requisite for the final mission, he did not complete all the parts leading up to it (winning the referendum, building the lightning tower...) And the starvation. That didn't help.
Please make this a series. It looks so good and you make so many videos about games that you enjoy but never continue with them as a series. I really don't want this to be another one of your frustrating "I like this game, here's two episodes of it and I'll never speak of it again" series.
Is there a reason he isn't picking up the emergency drop pod that has 100 odd ration packs in it next to his greenhouse? It won't be much help but it's better than none!
Jon you had not yet won the campaign. In addition to building the Earth History Center you also had to keep it running for a Sol. So would have like to have seen if you won that referendum and kept the colony going another Sol. The video ended with the colony in pretty bad shape.
For the sake of the video and the recurring meme, yes. Offcourse Jon screws it up in a most spektacular way. HOWEVER... explain to me how a veteran at city builders managed to screw up colonizing Vanaar in this game?!!
