I don't really understand why you guys are complaining about how good of a drummer she is or that she's all about looks, just appreciate the music that she takes time and effort to record and post on here for you guys. Keep up the great work meytal
It’s unreal how effortless she makes it look. For the people saying they think that she’s a poser you are crazy or just hating on her because she does make it appear so easy.
This girl blows other drummers out of the water. Someone on here said she doesn't have stage presence because she is smiling and not that energetic. I'm honestly blown away with how comfortably she is able to play the song while singing along to the vocals... When i saw her mouthing the words while drumming my mouth dropped open, which may be a ridiculous thing to be impressed by, but honestly it just made me realize how easy and comfortable she was playing this song. Being that comfortable playing this difficult of a song was mind blowing for me. Props to you for being an incredible drummer.
I wish I could have someone like you in a band with me, because every single person that hears you would probably say "That girl is filthy at drums, like holy shit do you hear that!?" Cause that's what I'm saying to people while watching this
i love that you are drumming to this song about nightmares and demons all the while looking like an angel just casually playing some metal on her drums, love it
Cohen was Israeli-born in Ramat Gan, the seventh child of a large family. Her parents were born in Iraq.[6] She studied tap dance, and graduated with a theater major from Blich High School in Ramat Hen; at the age of 18 she started playing drums and for two years served in the Israel Defense Forces, At the age of 20 she moved to Los Angeles.[8] She studied at Los Angeles Music Academy, majoring in percussion] Career After graduation from Los Angeles Music Academy, she played with her band "Metaphor", which also included Tina Guo on cello, Anna Stafford on violin, and Ali Wood on piano, playing concert tours in Australia, the United States, Mexico, South America and Europe in 2007. The all-female Led Zeppelin cover band "Moby Chick" joined their tour in Puerto Rico. Starting in 2010, Cohen has had an online video project, performing "drum covers" of popular rock songs. This has brought her a fan base and recognition: her 2009 cover of System of a Down's "Toxicity" had approximately 10.9 million views as of 2016;[8] [14] her RU-vid drum series had over 60 million views as of 2014.[1] Her number of Facebook followers in 2013 was said to be greater than that of any other Israeli woman with 369,000 "likes", outpacing supermodel Bar Refaeli; ahead of President Shimon Peres but behind Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She was also featured in an American TV show and two Australian shows. On 9 July 2013, Cohen started a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign called "Breaking RU-vid" whose purpose was to raise funds to create original music and move beyond covering songs on RU-vid. On 10 August 2013, the Kickstarter campaign raised $144,341 USD with 3,173 "backers". In her performances and videos, she uses a DW Performance Series drum kit and Meinl cymbals, and is currently an endorsed artist of both Drum Workshop and Meinl.[
Iraqi-Jewish? ok! Very nice girl! What I really admire at her is (forgetting about her soft kind of interpretation, which is not really a bad thing as study!) is the accuracy! The damn accurate-score approach! This is very inspiring and admirable way to play drum-songs, playing every single note almost perfect as the original score! I saw a lot of young fellows who covers many songs in a free-style approach, so inaccurate and superficial that I could cry! Look at this girl, fellows! Note by note! Very good, Meytal!
As a 50 year old starting to play drums for the first time as a retirement hobby, I really enjoy her videos. I played French horn and baritone back in my younger school days; should have picked percussion. Too many other videos everyone is showing off, flipping sticks, bouncing the sticks off the snare into the air, and generally look spastic with their arms flailing all over. Her very relaxed, fluid, precise every-time hits, her body glued into the pocket, and cheerful demeanor allow me to really study what's taking place; realize that good, calm, precise technique is key; and keeps me calm and in a positive mood, otherwise I concentrate too hard and get frustrated. I'm sure she's been playing longer than I have left to live, but to quote the proverb, I'll see if this old dog can be taught new tricks....ye olde brain and body just aren't as sharp as they used to be. Whew, those double kick pedals....to me right now that's like asking me to part the Red Sea; maybe one day years from now. Right now, I'll just relax and have fun with it!! Impressive Meytall.
I've heard people say she is a poser, and I think it's because it looks like she's not really into the drumming like a lot of metal heads are when they play. It looks like what she is doing is too easy and light to be real drumming, but it's only because she is a real musician and not a show off like most metal drummers are. She relies solely on her talent, not her presentation.
Totally agree. She plays the drums like they were her best friends, like she would cosset them. Only the best musicians can do this. Do not be fooled by this cosseting: the drums give their best sound, just like Mike Portnoy would sit behind them. My wife plays the piano in the same way. She actually cossets the keys, like they were her best friends, her beloved ones, even when playing the cruelest 20th century compositions. If someone handles the instrument as it would be her or his best friend, plays with it (and not it), if this playing looks like some easy practice, and if you hear all the dynamics that can be created with that instrument, then you can make sure: you are listening to a real artist.
You are so amazing! I am in love!! Yes, with your talent. and that gorgeous smile of yours. I melt every time you smile. it is almost a distraction. but a great one! I replay the vid if I get lost in your smiles, because I am analyzing your drumming. That is the important thing. And you are so dead on accurate, I love it! And you make the drumming look so easy. \m/
She is truly gifted. The grace and flow of her percussion is beautiful. I usually only read a few comments. Everyone of her vids it seems people can't except her for the professional she is, or they are jealous.
I've been learning the drums for exactly a year at 31 days and I'm learning this song now. When I first began the drums, being able to play this was all I wanted to do.
That smile has made many a bad day better and your drumming absolutely rocks I had years of homelessness and that infectious smile has raised my spirits when I was very down thanks
This is a perfect example of an artist... so smooth representing another and with such class. This WOMAN can do it all. I have been following for years and it's simply amazing. I love you princess. keep rocking!
Ya know why I love this Meytal clip so much? Honestly, it's the comments. She has better material, but the stark lack of haters in the comments section...awesome! I've been following Meytal for a few years. I've had to verbally slap the shit out of so many jealous idiots in the comments on these videos. I'm a guitarist. I played professionally for many years. I never made it. That's not Meytal's fault, so I'm not gonna be a dick to her. Unfortunately that hasn't always been everyone's opinion. No, she's not the "best", but she's got a solid business plan, and has implemented it well. Credit where credit is due. Keep at it, Meytal.
Hey, that was great drumming and super fun to watch! Well done Meytal, you just keep getting better and better. Great pedal work by the way and the green dress is really cute! Keep up the awesome work, I look forward to more music. I'd love to hear your rendition of Iron Man by Black Sabbath. Rock On!! 🤓💚
Que baterista talentosa, meu Deus! A menina faz parecer que tudo não passa de uma brincadeira pra ela. Suave e ao mesmo tempo com pegada e um belo sorriso no rosto. Sucesso!
I don't get why anyone would dislike any of your videos. Even if its not their style or genre of music, they gotta admit, you are amazingly talented. No reason to dislike, just scroll on without "liking." Such nasty haters.
I'm a drummer. First things first, her foot work, I have to admit is better than mine. Second from what I see, which this is my first time seeing her She's the real REAL deal guys and gals
I have Never thought seriously about learning to be a drummer.. But I Love watching her Love what she's doing so much that she makes me WANT to do what she's doing ! I can't think of any Metal band that wouldn't be LUCKY to have HER ! With Love and respect, K - NINE.
I love seeing the bass petals on songs like this. Good covers show you a lot of what you're missing and I suck at footwork so... also Metyl... SING WITH IT GIRL! You're already having a blast. Dont hold back! I've never understood why in all these videos you stop singing along!
The reason drums are so difficult is because you have to use your 4 limbs each on its own. Yes when you play guuitar you use your 2 hands on your own, but you don't use your legs much in guitar as far as I'm concerned. So I don't get why people are laughing so much at drummers. Drumming is NOT AN EASY THING! Even though, Meytalll did an amazing job on this cover.
***** i play guitar, and i have bachelor on it, i also play the drums for 10 years proffessionally too.... i can admit that guitar is far harder to learn everything than drums, and of course i talk about metal, though, drums are not easy intrument, it's too hard too. the bad with drums are that you have to play-practise having in mind not disturbing, because it's a very annoying instrument for the others when playing, while in guitar you just put a cable-headphones and you play as long you can, tha'ts my opinion based on my experience as a musician all these years...
Ok, but guitarist use at the least 5 limbs, 4 fingers and a hand. Sometimes you even through in some peddles and bam, 6 or maybe 7 limbs. Don't act like guitar is such a easy instrument, I get that drumers are unappreciated but I think guitar is a bit harder to play. But bass on the other hand...
after you get a little bit of cordenation and timing theory and pratice, it become very easy to play drums, like any other instrument, when the person get used to it
Jordan Scott As a pro, people forget if you want to get to the top, you have to master the fingers in percussion or you'll just be a banger who's slightly out of tempo with the rest.
+Radu Matei As a drummer I can say she is. Shes using the double kick pretty well. I dont really get to play a lot of rock or metal but u probably do and thats why u probably dont care to much.
Absolutely effortless, is how she makes it look yet anyone who actually plays knows damn well to get a good clean crisp sound takes a shit load of talent and practice. The ear to ear smile while drumming to a song like this isn’t easy. Tm cousins daughter is 8 years old and I watch these videos with her because she is now learning how to play drums you are a roll model for all young girls. You and Brooke C are two amazing women as well as beautiful. Keep on rockin🤘🏼
This is by far still my favorite cover of this song's Drums. You play so well and accurately. I have always enjoyed this video. Thanks still after 11 years !
I just love her enthusiasm an energy when she is playing it motivatrs me to want to play again i had to give it up after a stroke so much energy.in her playing love it thankyou meytal
Steve Stevens No, The Rev made the song but didn't finish it while Portnoy refined and finished it. At least that's what I've read. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rev "Avenged Sevenfold released a demo version of "Nightmare", featuring The Rev on an electronic drumset and some vocals."
Girlfriend: “Why are you pulling that face? What are you watching?” Me: “I’m admiring this woman’s feet. They’re incredible.” Now she thinks that I have a foot fetish.
Well, at least you can do kage bunshing no jutsu, use kamui with your mangekyo sharingan and use chidori. You're about the only one in this world able to do that, and yet, you're disappointed because this great drummer is better than you at drums? Kakashi, stop please.. You've been depressed over Rin and Obito's death so long, it's time to cheer up and realize you're one of a kind! Do some chidori push ups or teleport some assholes into another dimension with your mangekyo sharingan!
How the fuck can over a 1000 people not LIKE this...she is amazing...and one of my fave songs, she drums as good as the legendary Mike Portnoy does on this track. Well she gets my vote that's for sure.
+Dave Hooper because her head is twice the size it should be, she has a big nose, ugly feet and looks like shes more interested in her clothes and being up her ass than drumming
+GoodEyesight3000 wow that was rude. I agree with Dave and think she's beautiful. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but to make rude and hateful comments while hiding behind a blank profile pic makes you look ugly and pathetic. Just saying...
I haven't had a drum kit for quite a few years. I did build a mock drum set with 2 toms, 2 floor toms, a snare drum, and a bass drum. 3 cymbals and a top hat and they are all connected to a drum/cymbal sound synthesizer that I tied into an amplifier.
Meytall, I love to watch and listen to your drumming. You're a true spectacle in all your talent and beauty. I rarely come forward and tell a woman she's beautiful and you probably understand why. But, you make drumming sexy! Daaaamn! Keep at it hon. You rock.
