Like you said Thanos thought two steps ahead of everyone when he started this. He knew what and how he would do it. He knew Earth's heroes before hand, that is why he sent Loki. He tricked the Guardians to snatch Gamora. He knew what the Soul stone was that is why he brought Gamora. He was sad it came down to this button achieve his goal takes sacrifice. So he knew this, everybody is underestimating Thanos Ability to strategies this mission and succeed.

(the eternals are forbidden to reproduce with deviants, under penalty of being annihilated by the celestials). gamora was destined to take thanos' place on the throne... thanos is an "eternal" and knew that he was going to die using the infinity stones... that's why he wanted gamora to succeed him on the throne... he had not anticipated having to kill this girl to accomplish this quest, which consists of sending half of the living beings in the galaxy to the "dimension" of the afterlife... in order to avoid the war of the eternals and the judgment of the celestials... thanos is an "eternal" immortal... sending this biological daughter into the world of souls (dimension of life after death) to save the universe... is he crazy or heroic?

Snoopers Gonna Snoop Thanos wasn't in some sort of dream state, he was inside of the soul stone talking to Gamora, well at least the part of her soul that is attached to the stone now.

This movie in my opinion is better than Endgame because this is what everything leads to and we lost. We were broken and apart and Thanos killed us. My theater was deathly silent and you could hear sniffles. The first and only time I had left the theater and people were shocked.

Infinity war was the best mcu movie and overrated endgame is nowhere near it
