Rizal Avenue or Avenida was once the hangout of the rich shoppers and moviegoers. It was the Makati of the 1960s. Today, it's still one of the best bargain shopping places in Manila. There are Japan surplus stores, bargain shopping malls, nice sidewalk stalls, original old specialty shops, large ukay ukays, etc.

Nakakaiyak...I remember in high school, once in a while I would cut classes and go to Avenida from mandaluyong...I used to window shop at good earth emporium, lol....sometimes I would watch a movie at ideal theater, then I would go to confession in sta Cruz church for cutting classes...hahaha, oh the memories! 👍♥️

Avenida has this nostalgic charm...kahit papaano medyo maayos at malinis at nabawasan ang sidewalk vendors. Glad to see Alemar's, Merriam-Webster at Plaza Fair still doing business.

Alemars and Plaza Fair are long time closed. Plaza Fair is abandoned. Another small shop occupies Alemars.

I remember during my younger years. My father always take me there to watch a movie, lagi naman syang natutulog sa sinehan. It's so beautiful there at night. So many colorful neon lights that amazed me. Now it's gone.. sana maibalik ang mga makukulay at naglalarong mga ilaw dyan..

Avenida, Sta. Cruz,,,always full of people, each one with their stories, stories of their struggle in the city, happy and sad stories of how is it to live in sometimes kind and sometimes cruel city, and no matter what, life still goes on, it never stop as challenges come everyday, it's not all success some are failures in a crowded place in the city called Avenida!!! Too bad Plaza Fair has been abandoned, it was once a busy department store, I used to shop there!! Middle of last year I was in Avenida, it was too crowded on both sides! I hope there will be improvement in the place! Nice video Alfred!!! Thanks!!!

Malaki na improvement ng Maynila, kaya lang meron pa rin mga vendors sa mga daanan ng mga tao, sana tuluyan ng malinis ang mga banketa ng mga vendors, ang ganda pala ng Maynila kapag malinis, pwedeng pang tourist spots!,,Maynila itanghal mo ang bansa. Grabi last 2017 ako umalis takot akong bumaba ng LRT dahil sa grabi siksikan sa mga babaan...grabi na kalinis ngayon..dapat ganyan kalinis ang Manila..maalala ko kasi mga 80s ganyan din noon.. ang buendia dati nilalakd lamg namin papunta sa seaside hindi masikip...dapat balik na ang dati...pati mga kahoy at mga bulaklak sa mga tabi tabi

When I was a kid, I considered Avenida Rizal or Rizal Avenue in Sta Cruz as the “downtown” of Manila. It’s 2019 and no new development, only deterioration, sad. It needs some TLC.

You are a master in editing your videos. First you pick the appropriate background music, then create a montage of videos, that, upon a second viewing, makes the viewer feel as if he/she had walked those streets and seen those places. And, if you were ever once in your life, visited those places, it evokes a nostalgic longing of the, "good old days " of your youth. A fond remembrance of things passed. I remember, the old Avenida Rizal from the 70's. Before, that, ugly, abomination, the LRT, was built.That monstrosity, drained the vitality of this place. Irregardless, thanks for a great video.

Mayor Isko , mag papasa ka ng ordinansa business owners at mga may ari ng mga pribadong gusali na magsagawa ng clean up drive sa kanikanilang lugar at gusali . power washing para mahilamosan at malinis ,saka nila ayusin kong may dapat ayusin o kailangan ng bagong pintura so tuloyang mag mukhang presentable ang lugar .renovation , maybe about time itong mga may ari at busineeses ay katuwang sa pag aayos ng lugar ,hindi lang para gumanda at upang magkaroon ng thorough inspection ng mga gusali . sa fire and safety at iba pang sakuna gaya ng lindol upang maiwasan ang masidhing epekto nito sa tao .

There should be a community guideline or standard in the city that requires all building older than ten (10) years must be repainted and maintained clean, also the airspace between buildings, in this way it doesn't look too cramped with one another.

@@bobbykenrick6802 Divisoria has improved a lot. Not as chaotic as before. To go Divisoria ride a jeepney in Recto Avenue, end of Avenida. Many jeepneys and e jeepneys have sign going to Divisoria. I go to Divisoria too many times.

For some reason, Filipinos DON’T care about maintaining the outside look or paint job of the facade (or the external beauty) of the structures or buildings. It’s sad because it may cost more money to the owners but they help in nation building especially for foreign tourists to come and admire their beauty.

Alfred Cast Yea, renovate first, fix the destroyed sections and re-paint using better paints that can withhold weather changes for at least 10 years. I can see some of the architectural designs are not relevant and out of this world. It’s time to re-build the entire city.

what Manila needs is to preserve it's old blgs hence it's heritage.. one must clean & paint these old blgs..esp it rains so hard there.. paint saves it from dry rot too. look at Vietnam..esp Saigon.. that country was bombed.. look at what they did to their old section those old french blgs.. cleaned & repainted.. it looks so good.. it makes the whole area fresh..

Some politicians or family dynasty is holding the progress of this place. Replace these buildings with some new ones and make them more profitable. If you see these buildings look ugly because they are really ugly.

The Manila section of Metro Manila is supposed to be the center of commerce in the Philippines more than 100 years ago, but now it looks like it has been completely ignored by city business owners and businessmen. It got stuck to the old ways of Marcos era politics. The place is dilapidated and buildings are being left to be get rotten by time. They need to tear these buildings down including sections of Quiapo and Divisoria and rebuild this Manila section into a world class and progressive area to live in like the cities of Quezon, Mandaluyong and Makati. Nice shots though kudos to the videographer.

Manila needs a fucking makeover period. They need to get people out of There and find a way to get jobs in these other cities. I know it will be hard to restore the “old Manila” but the city and people deserve this pride. It’s been easy for these fucking cunts to build useless SM Malls, so I think it’s okay to even get the Red Cross to just temporary love elsewhere. The city is called a shithole to outsiders. I love the country and it still is great in itnwons right and but many things are an embarrassment. Politicians just need to stop being these very lowlife scum and just give the people something. Corruption will always exist but please have some pride.
