From netting first-place wins during amateur night at New York’s world-famous Apollo Theater to dazzling audiences of millions as a top contestant on America’s Got Talent, it’s almost impossible to believe that, in addition to asthma, Avery Dixon was born with a medical condition that prevents his vocal cords from closing properly. Against the odds, Avery’s tireless work to strengthen his lungs has earned him a place among the most talented saxophonists of our time - something that would make his great-grandfather Maxwell Davis fellow saxophonist and father of West Coast R&B, extremely proud. So, how did Avery do it? He stopped by Sweetwater to share his inspiring story in his own words. Check it out!

Avery thank for your courage to persevere and develop your incredible talent. You are an inspiration and I wish young people could have the opportunity to hear your story and your playing. Just hearing you reminded me of how much joy and pride I felt when hearing my son play. Thank you for sharing your talent and heart. May you be blessed and never have to feel the pain you suffered at such a young age. ❤🙏🏻

Thank you for sharing your story! It’s disheartening to hear about bullying especially from adults, but music as a solace and source of esteem and worth is such a blessing. 🎶

😮Awesome journey and story. I wish you all the best in your musical and professional pursuit. You are an inspiration, and your articulation and presentation are excellent. You are an outstanding marketer for Sweetwater. Terry Crews said on AGT that he will be your big brother and gave you that resounding buzzer. I hope he is providing mentoring and helping to open doors. I am so happy that your mother and grandma listened and provided the support.
@indigofay
Praise God for your Mama!
