For me, Comodo CIS8 like its predecessors is really great at keeping out everything known to date (working with other non-conflicting protections and my own rules added)...in fact, starting with CIS8, I now have to check just about anything re USB/JRE/low web downloads (even if VirusTotal et al green light files) to ensure Comodo or Windows Defender haven't blocked apps (e.g., ffmpeg, JWildfire) or sent app outputs to vtroot of HDD as "unknown source". This summer a modem hacker dialed my VoIP phone he found, asking me to turn (running) PC on; CIS is that effective re port stealth/block. Comodo sure can offset "ok" AV detection via prevention. Good video, cheers!

Seeing Avira come out on top was not surprising. They always scored better in Virus Total back a few years ago when I was in computing security and collecting samples off of users PC’s. But seeing AVG do as well as it did sure was. I don’t know much about Avast but seems to have risen from an also-ran status into a fairly good product. Thanks for the informative videos.

First of, I really like your videos been following them for almost 3 years now. your 'sense' of security is same as mine as i also look to protection that doesnt entirely depend on cloud but has an effective signature database on my laptop ready on the go. Second, I would like to request for ur recomended configuration of CIS version 8,in relation to ur earlier video showing configuration of version 7, also the new auto-sandbox like u said isnt full proof like that of v7. my current security combo is: Zemana Anti-Logger Free with CIS v8(default settings) and On-demand Emsisoft Kit

I have been using Comodo since the XP days, and it has never failed me. Not once have I had any kind of infection. Firewall is first rate too, stops everything.

Can I use Avast and Comodo at the same time without lag?. My OS is a Win7 Ultimate x64 with 8GB Ram. I'm a Malwarebytes and Avast user since many years ago but I'm interested in testing Comodo 'cause I saw some videos where it detects Ransomware better than Avast.

It is known long ago that Avira has the best base malware but that's all, when you start the remaining files then see the true state protection. This test does not show anything more than just malware databases antivirus company.
@pcsecuritychannel
@pcsecuritychannel 9 лет назад
yes. That is precisely what this test is. If you are asking why I did a signature test again, the answer is that since malware keeps changing all the time and the test uses a small sample size, it is important to conduct these tests regularly to see what is going on. In the last few tests I have been noticing that Comodo's detection seems to be on the decline.

Which Free Antivirus program would you recommend?

+Luka Milic Avast or Avira. Easy to use, nice interface, good detection. AVG keeps trying to make you not uninstall it, it gives out information about people through ads.
@GlennMarshallRocks
@GlennMarshallRocks 8 лет назад
No idea where you got that idea. I've got AVG installed on dozens of machines and it doesn't do what you seem to think it does at all on any of them. There are no "ads" that come up with AVG other than offers to upgrade to the paid version or accept trial installations of AVG products and features. As far as uninstalling, AVG is easy and simple to uninstall. I've uninstalled AVG many times, for various reasons, and never had any problems uninstalling it at all. In addition, when revisiting clients machines that had Avira installed on them for a number of years (which itself was a significant improvement over Avast) and installing AVG instead for the performance increase and reduced boot times it offers (boot times cut in half in most cases, and system performance noticeably improved over the sluggish and resource hungry Avira agent), I was surprised to find AVG was able to detect and clean items on more than one machine that had slipped right past Avira. So, in my experience with these three free Anti-virus programs, AVG was not only the most effective, but also provided the fastest boot times, along with the best system performance on literally dozens of machines that I installed and tested it on. None of these machines have ever had any privacy problems; none has ever had third party ads, nor has any reviewer ever mentioned any adware being installed by AVG anywhere on the internet (which by itself would be disastrous to the company); and it's uninstall, if desired for any reason, is very easy and straightforward. Not sure how you came to any of the conclusions that you seem to, but nothing that you stated seems to be an accurate description or assessment of AVG at all, which is a fine product with no privacy issues or uninstall issues at all...

comodo's exclusion doesn't seem to work. I keep adding a favorite application but it keeps detecting it as malicious software. Freaking annoying as crap. Thumbs down for me.

Yavor Kirov I believe that anti-malware and anti-viruses are the same. Malware and viruses means the same thing.
@propernoun2896

ReactiveMayhem I believe that Malwarebytes is a second opinion scanner, for it is. Malwarebytes is not an antivirus. It scans for what antiviruses miss, therefore it will have the loweet detection ratio. Around 75%.

For this video, Avira has the best signatures. But the best antivirus isn't all about signatures. You have to know how much resource usage it takes up, too. And is it easy to use?

I had Avira installed on all my machines (xp, win7, desktop & laptop), as well as on the machines of family members and clients for a few years, as back then, perhaps 7 or 8 years ago, Avira had the best protection and had minimal system impact. However, about two years ago, when building a new quad core machine for my nephew, the last thing I installed was the antivirus. I had read a number of reviews comparing Avira & AVG and they really were neck and neck for #1 in protection. So, wanting to give him the fastest performance on his new machine, I compared the boot times of Avira & AVG and was pretty disappointed when Avira slowed the machines boot time from about 45 sec to nearly 2 minutes. I also noted that his CPU utilization was negatively impacted by the Avira agent, which seemed to constantly use resources, which affected the performance of every app on his machine negatively. So, I restored the machine to a restore point prior to the Avira install, and verified boot time was peppy again, and CPU utilization was minimal, staying around 99% idle. I then installed AVG and again tested the machines performance. The machine once again booted in the 45 second area to get to the desktop with everything loaded and ready to use. Surprisingly, the CPU utilization was barely affected, with system idle remaining between 98-99%. So, I was able to deliver a very fast, very peppy machine to my nephew, with windows that opened nearly instantaneously on the net, and applications that themselves opened an responded nearly instantaneously as well. After this, I tested startup times and performance on my 4 computers, removed Avira and installed AVG instead, and found a drastic improvement in startup times, as well as an increase in performance on every one. Over the next couple of months, I went through the process of removing Avira and installing AVG on ever family members machines, and doing the same for my clients as well, and got the same results on every machine. In addition to improved performance, I was surprised to find on a couple of machines that I did this swap on that AVG was able to detect trojans and malware that Avira had missed, and was able to clean the problems out and restore the machine to an ever cleaner and healthier state than Avira had been able to do. So, my take on this, as someone who's been involved in IT as a professional for over 30 years, is that things have always been competitive in the software world, and perhaps nowhere as much as in the anti-virus/anti-malware segment. What company had the most effective product would change year to year, and sometimes even month to month when compared against each other. While Avira offered the best free anti-virus program perhaps 7-8 years ago, over time with all of their updates and changes to their anti-virus engine and updates to their agent, there was a noticeable drop in system performance at one point about 4-5 years ago, and that drop in performance was never addressed or rectified since that time. When I had a good opportunity to compare Avira to AVG, AVG was reviewed consistently to be as good or better than Avira in every review I came across (perhaps 7 or 8 different independent reviewers). In real world A/B testing, AVG was far superior not only in maintaining a machine at it's highest level of performance, but also in detecting and removing malware that Avira had let slip right by. In the 2 years or so since installing AVG on dozens of machines, there has not been one infection, and every machine I've had a chance to revisit, along with my own personal machines, has remained running optimally, maintaining their minimal boot times and fast performance (one Win7 machine I upgraded with an SSD boots in 15 seconds even a year and a half after the update with AVG on it). So, as far as I'm concerned, AVG wins, hands down... no question at all.
