I just saw this review; very nice, thank you. It's great to have you delve deeply into the designs. A few comments, I designed the Skylark; Michael Bashkin designed the Songbird and Dove. We designed the full build method, as well as the drying and matching. I designed the skylark with the bridge, soundhole, and peghead matching in design, which is why that peghead is on the Skylark only. Keep up the good work, very good reviews always. I'll keep checking them out. Harry Fleishman, designer. Please check out my handbuilds, you'll see that my work predates much of the others you reference. (I designed the Breedlove line, and also designed for Fender, Jackson, etc.). thanks again.

Taylor guitars is asking about going direct from online. I personally do not like retailers going away. I trust Chris's opinion. But tough for unknowns

I was very interested until you mentioned that they are made in china. I'll stick to Martin, Taylor and Gibson. Hypothetical question: Why in China?

@@daovictoria Cheap and cheaply made. I would buy an Eko made in Italy, a Saez made in Spain or a Furch from the Czech Republic. But not a guitar from china

Yup. I've heard of the Avian Songbird but not the Skylark. My parents drove a Buick Skylark when I was a kid but, that doesn't count.

Risk/Worry free? 72 hour return policy with RMA. I'm assuming they're open 24/7/365 to receive your RMA request, contact the shipper and have it on a truck withing the allotted time. Major shippers in my area are closed on Sundays and observe holidays. Also, you don't get your money back till they sell your custom guitar to some other dude. Today they have 5 guitars and a banjo for sale. Nothing under 5 G's. Could be a good long time before a guy gets his dough back. Both look great and sound great.

My audio indicates the Skylark lacks volume and bass for a body that shape and size. The Songbird sounds great and looks like it has an extra large sound hole.

Acoustic guitars are the exact guitar type that shouldn't be bought without trying first and it has nothing to do with QA. Each acoustic sounds and plays slightly different even when they look the same and picking the right guitar for the player requires trying them out. I played 2 Taylor 324ce back to back. They were both excellently built and played about the same and had the same basic characteristic sound, but the devil was in the details. It was noticeable to even my tin ear. By their serial, they were made in the same month and yet one just sounded better with my playing than the other. I couldn't buy an acoustic online because of this.

It depends . For me if I buy under $600 guitar I just order it online . For anything more than 1k $ definitely play it at store first

As D D 8 pointed out we don’t seek that brand but we would love to review them. We have revised other brands we don’t carry before: the issue is access and availability. Right now it is difficult to get any guitar, let alone one we don’t carry.

I bought the Skylark 2A after comparing it to the Songbird. It is a GREAT guitar. Build quality is extremely high and the sound esp. for the player is beautifully clear and expressive. I don't think you can buy a guitar at this price from any other company. I don't think the Songbird is nearly as good.

I have a Skylark that I bought 5 years ago, which is my only go-to acoustic guitar that I still play until now. Generally, the traditional mid sound hole acoustic guitar just not my cup of tea despite how good the guitar can be (personal preference). When I saw McPhersons guitar, I like the look & I like the sound of that guitar after hearing Paul Baloche played his. Since then, I tried to search for alternative off-set sound hole guitar as McPhersons is out of my budget, and that's when I found Avian Skylark, recommended by a friend, and he told me the Avian brand used to work with 2 famous luthiers to design the Songbird & Skylark. The craftmanship is really good. Like what you have mentioned about the harmonix of the guitar tone, that's what I like about it too. Overall, I really like the sound of it.

As soon as I heard that they were constructed in China I knew I would never be interested in owning one...ive found every guitar I've ever played and owned that was Chinese after a short while became very uninteresting very quickly...in my personal opinion

Made in China? No thanks. I try to buy American owned, designed, and manufactured products whenever I can. There are so many great American guitars to choose from.

There are a lot of famous luthier setting up brand in China , because it is cheaper to make there and the market is so huge. The quality of these type of guitars are better for their price range. You will be suprise, I did. Ofc if you have a big budget nothing beat a top of the line American made MArtin
