Stiofán Ó Fearail ó Seo Linn in éineacht le scoláirí & foireann chúrsa C lena leagan féin de "Wake Me Up" le Avicii.
Chuaigh an t-úafás oibre agus réiteach isteach sa bhfíseán ceoil seo agus tá súil againn go dtaitneoidh sé libh
Fáinne fí i gcoim na hoíche.
(Níl) 'tada riamh nach mbíonn thart.
Diabhail fhios a'm cá bhfuil deireadh mo scéil
Ach táim ar an mbealach ceart.
Deir siad liom gan a dhul sa tseans,
Nach dtagann ciall roimh aois.
Bhuel 'sé m'aistear é, Ní léir cén fhad a mhairfidh sé,
'Sé togha ar aon chaoi.
So Lig mé saor ón suan 'tá orm.
(Tai)speáin 'om bóthar éasca cothrom.
Bainfidh mé ceann scríbe amach, sí m'aidhm,
Cíbe treo átá i ndán.
(Tá) Mé ag iompar úalach mór an tsaoil
Ach níl a'm ach péire lámh.
Suile troma is an ghrian a dhul faoi
Ach ní chodlaíonn mé go sámh.
"Bris amach agus tú fós sach óg."
Chinnigh mé le dul in aghaidh.
Seo mo ré, Seasfaidh mé an fód,
'S leanfaidh mé ar aghaidh.

Almost 3 years since this has been released and it has taught more people and children As Gaeilge in 10 minutes than what a school has in 6 years, this song is a perfect example that future generations really don't hate the language, they just hate how the schools are teaching it, simple as.

Exactly!! I'm doing my Leaving Cert rn, and I had to drop to pass Irish last year I just couldn't handle the copious amount of notes. It was ridiculous, the amount of learning crap of by heart, without knowing what it even meant. I love Irish so so much, and it breaks my heart how many people hate it, due to how awfully it's taught to us.

I can not understand how it is possible that at present the Irish language is minority in its native land. You, as Irish, are lucky to have this treasure that you must keep alive. As I always say, the best way to maintain and defend a living language is speaking it as possible. Congratulations on this great version of this Avicii's song. Greetings of a Spaniard who loves your language and his own (Valencian / Catalan).
@CianMcsweeney
@CianMcsweeney 6 лет назад
Monstervill History more or less answers your question, when the British took total control of Ireland in the late 1500s and early 1600s they introduced a set of laws called the penal laws that more or less outlawed anything Irish. The language was forbidden and owning land or gaining an education was ilegal for catholics. Despite this Irish was still widely spoken, then the Irish potato famine hit, the hardest hit areas were Irish speaking regions, the language literally died off and many other native speakers left for America. Those that remained in Ireland viewed Irish as a language of the poor after this and stopped teaching their kids the langauge. It was only in the early 1900s when irish nationalists started trying to start an Irish revival, as they believed to win true freedom from Britain was to reclaim our culture, that interest in the language grew again, once Ireland gained independence many schemes were introduced and funding given to the language, however unfortunately it might be too little too late.
@Monstervill

Today, casually I have read about you have explained, for this reason I have remembered this page with versions of songs in Irish and I found my 3 years old comment and your answer haha. I guess that it could be useful trying that schools used the Irish like a main language since the first years, this could let you obtain new natural speakers. I believe that It may NOT be too late, for example, in Israel was revived a dead language (Hebrew) and now is spoken by 8 milions of people, you only should have hope. I appreciate your irish history lesson!! Go raibh míle maith agat!!

Although I am now fluent in French, for a long time I felt like I didn't have an Irish nationality, even though my school was in Ireland. I think the best way to make irish popular again is singing these sort of songs. It's awesome and everyone loves these songs. Keep doing what you're doing, Lurgan!! Xxxx

I wish schools did a better approach in teaching the language. I'm from limerick myself and my Irish is better than most but still terrible. You'd think after we finished school we'd know the language by now..I know Swedish people who are fluent in English after 3 years... The way they teach it makes students hate it. Of course I don't speak for strictly Irish speaking schools. I have a question to people in the Gaeltacht, how would ye change the way Irish is thought throughout Ireland?
@melonellen5786
@melonellen5786 8 лет назад
There is a lot of talk about it, particularly in secondary schools. Students need to give their opinion on it, and suggest how it is taught, because they are the ones learning it. Personally, I think it is too serious.

Lukes TFitz I think the classes in secondary school should be divided whereby 2 classes a week are strictly Irish speaking classes .. no poetry nothing , almost as if you go to the gaeltacht for 2 classes a week and the other classes in the week should be for the stuff like poetry etc. however the primary school teaching of Irish should be taught just like a language such as French/Spanish are thought in secondary , primary school Irish teaching is a disgrace

So happy to see the native tongue spoken. Much better than what we an our ancestors had it. Beautiful! Well done and spread the native langue to those (including I) who were forced to give it up (my case 3rd generation) never learned it do to cromwell and the American protestant movement.

Speaking to my sons' Irish teacher at a parent teacher meeting, I said to her, 'I just want him to be able to speak the language', she sighed at me and sadly replied, 'unfortunately, I don't teach a language, I teach a subject', and went on to explain that the secondary school curriculum put emphasis on passing the subject in an exam but not actually learning it in a useful way. She was very sorry about this as she loves speaking it herself. If the school don't have a policy of supporting teachers in teaching in innovative and imaginative ways, the teachers are stuck, I've loads of friends who teach and the more imaginative ones find it soul destroying.

It's still alive to me 😆 sang it in primary school those five years back. Thank you TG Lurgan, I only started to actually like irish after hearing how cool it actually sounds like out of learning stage. The as gaeilge shows are actually very funny and entertaining. Forget about hating the accents, and prós and scéals, but it's really such a creative, fun language if you listen closely. The people are generally just cool about crap-language, funny and also kind as well as generous and accepting that they take advantage of each other😅👍 proud to know bits of irish
