Bought one of these for $50 from a guy on craigslist as my first interface. Great deal! The drivers and compatibility on Mac is a little more finicky, but it works well on windows still.
They had 3 MBox 3’s. The one with one mic input, the one you have, and then the MBox pro that takes FireWire cable. The only thing I don’t like about mine is the headphone input. It takes a lot more gain than usual to hear anything. I love the sound, and the build quality is amazing!
I bought this one because I don't have Firewire, take it from a pro; the sound quality on these MBoxes is fantastic and far better than any new 2 input USB interface out there at the moment. The component quality has definately gone down especially for China, to the point that you can hear it audibly.
Congratulations, these MBoxes are much better than modern equivalente in my experience. People selling these boxes believe they can upgrade or improve by buying something more recent, but that is rarely yhe case.
@@delatronics3257 he had two of them but one didn’t work. I asked him if he’d sell me that one too and he was surprised that I even wanted it. I just have to try and repair it. Then I can have two of them.
@@delatronics3257 not only that but it requires so much upgrades that you can never catch up. If you understand audio (especially on a local level) you won’t need no upgrades. Pro studios still use their old equipment. Now what I would do is after I record my sessions, then I’ll use my subscription base protools to master the track or podcast. I love the mboxpro3
Hi Delatronic: i just got this Mbox 3, but I cannot find the drivers in the Avis website. Do you have the link for the drives, or can you provide some input on how to get the drives for the Avid Mbox 3. Thanks.
I'm using one on Windows 11. If your blue led is flashing, try a powered usb hub or USB 3 port on the PC and turn off fast startup. Soft buttons settings in control panel refer to the Multi button, how long you have to press it for, not the soft limiter buttons on the channels. The multi button was for use in Pro tools, it could launch options etc.
Hi, i have a question: what RTL latency you have on this mbox ? At 44.1 32buffer size ? Please for an answear. Or someone else. Maybe someone knows about RTL latency on others mboxes ? Best regards. 😊
Mbox 3 was working for me very well and i am using windows 10 pro but suddenly the laptop stopped recognising the Mbox , Is it because i have windows 10 pro but it was working very good before like few days , Is there a new driver is available for the Mbox 3 and i downloaded already the latest driver from Avid website but still it didn’t fix the issue !
Probably Windows updates made it not working. I just got one Mbox 3 Pro last night and I am having same issue. For Saffire pro 14 (Firewire again) it is written that only old versions of win 10 is supported (up to 1809). So I will try install it later and let you know if it is working this way!
Well I'm very late seeing your post, I don't know if you got it working by now but if anyone is having the same problem try downloading asio4all drivers as well. Thank me later.
Greetings, I hope your doing better all n all. The timing of your post is perfect. I bought the exact same pt8Le package years back but never got around to using it. Still new. Avid has changed its whole set up from then. I started producing again and was wondering if i could use this Mbox with cakewalk. I don't want anything to do with avid or whatever they are called now. I use windows 10pro, have the mbox3 , will download cakewalk. So you're saying I can make it all work together and start recording again?
@@delatronics3257 Mbox 3 pro has up to 8 I/O. 4 preamps, word clock, speaker select (to switch between up to 3 monitor sets) and two headphones outputs. Biggest difference is the pro has a power supply which you'll have more head room for recording.
@@delatronics3257 Yeah, I had to install a firewire port on my computer. For my laptop, I have the same Mbox you have in your video. Still works great too after all these years.

Hi Jalo, sorry bit I never worked on these units; if the input is low on both channels but outputs OK, check your drivers. If you are recording using a mic, try a guitar (if that works check that you have phantom power if a condenser mic is being used).
Does the pro tools LE 8 or any version of pro tools software have to be installed in order to make the mbox connect to the PC or laptop with windows 10 or 11 and with cakewalk or other software instead of PT?
I would say no, it was not any good since windows 10. In windows 10 it cannot stream at a sample rate above 44100 for playing back Wav files in the media player or for streaming stuff online. I would say stay away from this Avid product, because its clear they do not care about users once their products get a few years old, the driver for windows has not been updated since 2014, that should tell you a little about their support for products in thew long term.
