Howdy all!
I recently upgraded my BMW E53 X5 from the existing Avant-3 to the brand new Avant-4 from AvinUSA! This really has been a progression for this car as I originally started with the Avant-2 and now two generations of hardware later, it just keeps getting better!
The installation isn't hard and something you can do with a few simple tools. My challenge here is trying to talk anyone coming from the original OEM headunit to the Avant-4 because of the big changes in my car over time. I hope that the description helps you if you are in that position.
This really is a great upgrade though.. Android 8, updated apps, wifi, navigation and all the options including apps installed from the Play store. As much as I love my E53, she is and now WAS very blind out the back so the backup camera makes a HUGE difference!
Also, if you get familiar with the iBus app on the unit, you can made coding level changes to your car, change lights, blinker behavior and a number of other cool updates.

Thanks for the many videos you've posted! I have a question I hope you can answer. I cannot seem to figure out how to remove the central air vents in the dash. I know there are supposed to be tabs to depress but I cannot find a video or good description. I have a 2005 X5 without navigation. Thanks!

Well I have installed their systems into every car I have access to at home, and a dozen or so more into others. *laugh* All in all very positive.. When I have had issues they were small, and were resolved. I talk to a ton of people who have issues, but come down to install problems, loose cables, bad AUX ports and other things. So net postive and worth it, so have an Avin product in my F32, E53, and E83 currently.

Great to hear, all I've heard so far is horror stories, so that's definitely reassuring! Have you experienced any issues with freezing? (Thankyou for taking to the time you have definitely gained a sub!)

@@Playlists221 So i haven't no. I heard of issues like that with the F3X displays, but that was 2nd generation (now on 4th) and only in REALLY hot situations. I ran an Avant-2 in my X5 and E46 M3 for several years with no issues, and now the Avant3 then 4 in the X5. (sold the M3) I have heard horror stories too, but then havent heard anything that didnt come down to bad install, loose cable, or in some cases rooted the device and caused their own problems.

I install the Ibus app. When I press the DSP on the screen the radio comes on but cut off after 38.4 sec. I must say that my original radio on my E38 was cutting out after 2min 40sec. but I was told I had to replace my DVD GPS NAV. MKIII TO MKIV version I disconnected the NAV. completely but radio still cut out, the Avant4 at 38.sec. and my original at 2min. 40sec. On the ibus app screen, it flashing WARM AND OVERHEATING not sure why. Can you say why, Thanks

I would like to thank you for doing the Avant 4 install. I have a 2001 E38 740iL BMW and in the process of buying the Avant 4. I would like to utilize all the features of that it has. ( Avant 4) Can the dual cam DVR work with and any back-up camera? Is there anything I need to know before I buy it. THANKS

Happy to help.. in regards to the backup camera, I used the front dual DVR and a rear camera I got from Avin, so candidly cant speak to if ANY will work. I would imagine that many will that have the RCA plug style video in and trigger wire setup, but only worked with what I have so far.

How many pins is your connection? I have the same as you have, but AVIN sent me 17pin and it doesn't fit

HI. Great Video - I have an X5 E53 still in original stereo - ordered the avant 4. my question is: - 1. the ibus usb - you need to plug it in any one of the 3 usb available right? so you can access the app? once you done - do you need leave it connected? or diconnect it? 2. is avant 4 - android auto and carlpay ready? or you need to buy a carlinkit to enjoy wireless carplay? 3. as for the reverse camera - what is the max resuution it supports? 480p 720p or 1080p?

Thanks. I will try and do a DIY on my 2001 E38 because I haven't seen it done on this car. My question is after connecting the 6M cable, in the trunk, do I need to disconnect the CD player the DVD and any other devices in the trunk?. Would I be able to play from my portable hard drive all my music, movies and pictures after connecting it to the USB ?. Would I be able to answer my phone via the steering wheel and communicate through the mic on the Avant4 HU to the other party.?

Lots of questions.. the 6m cable will plug into the main wiring harness in the back.. I am not sure about disconnecting the others as I haven't done it, but I believe so yes. Portable hard drive.. dont know as I dont know if what you have works with Android. Thumb drives etc yes, not sure about the hard drive, as a function of android itself not the display per se. Steering wheel controls will work.

I should be getting my Avant 4 this Tuesday, My question is does the I-bus App comes install with the unit, because I did not see it in my friend's car.

I don't see the ibus cable mentioned here. Mine came with a device that plugs into that connector but no clue what it does. I also got the apple adpter but not sure how that is installed either. Is it the larger black box with a USB male on one side and female on the other? Does that attach to the USB adapter on the main harness or does it attach to the Ibus device that also has a USB port?

My menu also shows everything but the ibus icon. So I am unable to get to that for the DSP settings in my vehicle.

How to you install the IBUS? Do you have to tap the wires from the IBUS to existing wires? If so which ones do you tap into?

You dont have to tap the IBUS.. it does it for you.

What DVD-Drive do you use, and would it be able to play any CD, Movies CD. Is it all powered from the red or yellow USB from the Avant 4

The DVD I used with the Avant 3 is not compatible with the 4 as it turns out. The 4 does not support an external DVD drive.

How did you connect the 6inch cable from the trunk to the unit?

You can a long extension to run from trunk to the head unit. Run the cable up under the side carpet of the trunk, then under the doorsill to the dash.

So if you search for the ibus app, you can find the developers website and download the apk to a thumb drive and install

My friend got his Avant 4, installed in his E38. He had no sound at first he had no i-bus app on the screen. The following day he got sound without downloading the I-bus App. He then told me he had to disconnect the bass speakers because the Avant 4 cannot handle all 12 speakers. It will burn out over time. Is he bs-ing me or what. I think he by-pass something because he did not know how to download the I-bus app. What do you guys think?

I just notice that you did not connect the IBUS USB adapter to the main harness, why?. When I download the ibus app and try to unlock, I got "NO connection to the interface" I was told I needed that IBUS USB adapter to the main harness not sure how it works for you without the ibus USB adapter, connect to the Head Unit.

Avin USA has the worst customer service ever. Calim to have live help but doesn't appear to be the case. I am now disputing the charge with my credit card. Did not receive any installation instructions didn't receive all that I ordered B/U cam. Worst ever.
