This song actually influenced me to head to the village after nearly 3 decades to honour my Black Wara heritage long wara Sepik na lukim ples blo mi... love this son... best song since Manda Felix Sepik Wara
The song itself has a rich meaning in the history of migration for the people of sepik river. Pita Captain is a person in the early days of colonial era. He is personified as an event in the history. Pita Captain is an early native captain who transports people and cargo to and fro the mighty Sepik River. Most where taken out of their homes by colonial masters to work in plantations and logging camps in parts of Madang, Morobe and West New Britain. Sepiks who settled in settlements and towns around the country may have or have not grasph the significance of Pita Captain to this day. Well done Avisat Band for making history alive.
Actually the person is Captain Peter Yaman from Tambunum village and he was one of the few Sepiks with others from around PNG to attend the Nautical Training Institute (now PNG Maritime College in Madang) at Napa Napa, Port Moresby. The NTI at Napa Mapa was later transferred to NTI Madang, which later changed to PNGMC. There were others like Pais Sale from Dagua and Joachim Olime from Kamanimbit who also passed out from NTI Napa Napa. Other Sepik names appear later but these were few who graced the maritime profession in the formative years...long live sepik sailors
