Your videos are always very informative but this does nothing to help. It’s just the installation book. I would have enjoyed a how to video to help like Cheftush’s video. (he does leave out some intricate parts however). Here are some tips that you should include: * If you cut the old top off you can access the hardware from the outside. It makes it much easier to reach. * There are 22 5mm nuts that need to be removed. It pays to spray some penetrating oil or even WD40 on them at least 12 hours before you begin. Let it soak in so you don’t break the bolt stems. They can be rusted. * The channel is often rusted so be prepared to replace it along with a new rubber seal. Order both ahead of time so you don’t set time aside to do the job, but then get stuck. * Make sure you remove ALL glue from the old top left on the rails and in the header pocket. Refinish with black satin paint if needed. * Leave all of the bolts loose as described in the rear until everything is done. * Make sure the lip of the new top meets the window channel evenly. Too many people leave it loose on their first try (like me). Eyeball it before you glue it in place. * Get a second set of hands to help you place the rubber channel seal in place. A new one will be very pliable and can tear VERY easily. Ask me how I know...lol * Use a quality rivet gun and stainless steel rivets to avoid any rust. * Don’t rush. This is NOT a tough job, but it does require your attention to detail.
The Alfa soft top is made out of a marine style canvas duck cloth which is natural fiber based and as such, it will not fit correctly the first time. With effort, you get it on and you must get the roof completely wet and let it dry in the sun, a couple time. Eventually it will max out and stretch and stay at that length/size literally forever or until it wears out. It takes time and patience. What you DONT want to do is put a new or recent top that has collected moisture, even early evening dew, away for the night with the top down, it will recede over night and be even more difficult to restretch. SO, remember, take the time when you first get your top, stretch it correctly and it will last a lifetime and always fit perfectly 👍
Thanks for the vid. I have a question for you and your followers. My soft top roof won't open all the way. It stops at about 3/4 open and sticks up above the body, it won't collapse fully into the body. Do you have any tips or advice on how to fix? Is there any specific part of the mechanism I need to look at? Many thanks
Curious, did instructions come with top? I bought mine on eBay… and instructions were much less involved and did reference loosening frame and other items i saw. Needless to say mine did not fit well when closed.. ie window fit is poor, ok, but not perfect
Hello, I don't have an Alfa Romeo, but I do have a Mercedes 190e 2.3-16. Maybe someday I will get an Italian car. I recently subscribed to your channel, I am enjoying it. I better get out and work on the car. Cheers from Canada, Rob.
I have been working on this car since the Spring. Parts can be tricky to get hold of, but I have managed. The exhaust will be done in a few days. There are still other smaller repairs to be done, but the car will be sorted in the coming months.@@VintageCustomCars
