As a single young man living in Waikiki where surfing and diving was my priority, found it the best in all of Hawaii. Here's my list. Best weather, good onshore break, good snorkeling, marina close by, good cheap local food, great entertainment, bars, music and, abc shops plentiful. I loved the tourists, why? There were many single young women looking for locals to show them the island so dating was very easy if you were a surfer, and not that serious and always happy times. Now as I am older, and live back on the mainland I go to Waikiki partly for almost everything I mentioned but now also for nostalgia. Meet me at Dukes, mahalo, Waikiki no ka oi.
Ngl in new york i just hate everyone, everyone here just rude and think they tuff till they get dropped. When i was in Oahu, Waikiki specifically it was much more relaxing and everyone was nice.
Hi.. No one will answer this question, so hopefully YOU will.. I hear that Jellyfish are a problem at Oahu Beaches including Waikiki! Is this TRUE?? I need the 411 because I am visiting soon, Thanks!!
I live in Waikiki. Man o war jellyfish only appears around the 7th day after full moon. Jellyfish calendar for the next 6 months is: June 22 to 24 July 22 to 23 August 19 to 21 September 18 to 20 October 17 to 19 November 16 to 18 December 15 to 17 Just try not to swim in the ocean during those days. But if you get sting, which is very painful, just rub hot water with salt in the affected area or put on vinegar, lifeguards always have vinegar, also apply some aloe vera gel, Benadryl cream, or hydrocortisone cream if you still feel rash like pain. Not sure where you heard is a jellyfish problem, is just a few jellyfish here and there hanging out by the shoreline. Now, you should be more aware of the V52. 🤙🏽
Man of war only show up on occasion. Carols comment here is interesting I have never heard it before. There are plenty of remedies if you are stung so be prepared. Vinegar and hot water is the best.
Follow the Waikiki Aquarium Live Feed on RU-vid, they have the caution signs on their feed when the jellyfish are around. From what I have read the jellyfish hit that area about 9-10 days after full moon.
@@justdevorah7473 yeah, can google anywhere. Anyways, my toddler “rescued” a couple of jellyfish on Saturday by the shore, she scoop them with a shovel back to the ocean. Not big deal, just little creatures enjoying their life.
I've been to Waikiki, and absolutely hated it. Just a cosmo tourist trap. Rather go to north shore or a secluded beach to enjoy peace, quiet and the ocean.
Couldn't agree with you more! I was just there for a week, before heading to Maui and I couldn't wait to get out of there! It was my second time visiting, first time I was only there for a few days so I wanted to give it another try. Definitely not the place for me.
I don't define cities as tourist traps, only some venues are. There is plenty of seclusion all over the 8 islands, if that is what you like. I found seclusion quite the bore with it's limited things to do, see, hear and smell.
Reason #6 if you have children, the public schools from that district are terrible, from elementary all the way to high school. Also drug sale and prostitution is very high so be careful with your kids. Reason #7 lot of homeless and lot of crime lately. Some deaths in the past months and high profile crimes, just couple of days ago a man chop off other man hand with a sword. 🥷
