The ironic thing is that I moved from Houston to Arkansas. I loved Houston, but I don't miss it. I do have to snicker at residents around me in AR. They think I talk like a Yankee, and they have no idea how to understand how big Houston is. They think it's between the size of Little Rock and Memphis. I've blown a few minds when I tell them that you can put around 5 Memphis in it. Then I tell them about the area codes......

Lived here for 20 years and we’ve had more downs than ups. Traffic/ roadways/construction is the worst, 75% of the tollway is clogged with people without an EZ tag so it’s best to avoid it. the weather is by far the worst in the nation; unstable. crime, no matter how rich or poor the neighborhood is, low life, blue, and white collar crime is EVERYWHERE. Galveston IS NOT a beach, don’t let anyone convince you it is. Zero tourism/attractions outside the annual Rodeo Festival Gentrification is rising but they’re mainly in poorly constructed areas with high flood risks and heavy traffic The only upside is the food and nightlife. There truly is something for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend anyone moving here but it can be a nice visit if you know someone.

I’ve been here for 14 yrs and agree. It’s a catch 22 because although the cost of living is rising rapidly, Houston is still considerably affordable than most major cities. It’s a sticker you preload money on. People do the same for a Disney pass that don’t want to wait in long lines LOL. Crime as you said is everywhere. If you think moving to another city will help to avoid that your lying to yourself. Galveston is not Houston. Zero attractions not true. If you Google search attractions all kinds of things come up so that proves you to be false. What else?

My taxes are much lower than other places I’ve lived.. If you don’t have to commute to work, living in central Houston has advantages. Everything you need is close by. A disadvantage is that there is more crime. The mosquito situation has improved drastically in the last few years because the city has been hanging mosquito deterrent in trees on the esplanades.
