I have a Blue Heeler masqurading as a Golden Retriever. She is relaxed, does not chase balls and sits down under the bench when I take her to the dog park. Maggie is relaxed, sweet and the only thing she does is nip when we play.

I currently have a blue heeler puppy and she is the exact same way. Does not enjoy walks at the moment nor socializing with others. She enjoying sitting my by side at the park and just observing. Definitely only playful but just between us. Is this normal?

I raised blue heelers. I had an average and they are superb guard dogs. And I didn’t want to breed them but this was back in the 80’s and the cattle farmers were forever borrowing my male. So I got him a brother from same mom and dad just different litter. Wow they loved working with the cattle. I never had a problem with nipping. Then once I decided to have a couple litters to help out my fellow cattle farm neighbours. I then found a beautiful female. I loved their intelligence♥️♥️♥️

Pure Cattle dogs don't necessarily run around for no reason like kelpie or border collie they work when they need to but can be lazy. I have owned 6 in my years 25kgs to 30kg males bred to intimidate Cattle.

I have owned two and they loved to lay around on my couch with me. No real bursts of energy until he goes potty in the morning. 😂 He does what feels good I guess.😂 I hate it when people say it’s cruel to not live on a farm. My rescue would happily disagree with that statement.

Thank you…We rescued a 2yr old mama blue heeler/terrier mix, who had 7 puppies 4 months prior to us adopting her. Everything in this video is spot on!!! My girl is so sad when l go anywhere, she is tireless and behaves so much better when I walk her, and play with her. We also experience the nipping, so I am glad to know that I have had good instincts, so far, and have been doing exactly what you advised…giving her her own toys to replace her need to nip us!

Your seven tips are very accurate. I hope people listen to what you’re saying I used to call my dog the Everready bunny because she never got tired until she was probably about 10 years old and she started to calm down. She’s now 13. I could not tire her out and we did a lot of exercise.

My oldest has one (Remmy). She's a great dog extremely intelligent, she for the longest time would try to herd our Great Pyrenees when they came to visit. It was cute at first, but we stopped it as soon as we could. Fortunately, our Pyrenees was very laid back, so no fights broke out. Great breed, and yes, it cannot be stressed enough they have unlimited energy!

Some of these dogs are not purebred Queensland healer and they are bred for sheep not cattle they can do cattle too but they are 40 to 60 lbs and very smile they are known for their agility as they will walk on the backs of sheep herds. We lived in a smallish apartment and he was in very excellent shape we took him out often we were both ful time earners and he thrived. You really can't tell if it will be able to be chill. We klkept ours from nipping when he used his mouth to try to get us to go with him we just said ow he let go. He was amazing and he was very much a family member. We had researched the bad and he was perfect and we are great pet parents

I have 3. My older 2 are from the same litter. And yes they did try my patience. Every chance they got. They are the most loyal dogs I’ve ever owned. They are 11 years now and have slowed down and prefer to relax. Recently got a Red Heeler after I had to put my older 2 dogs sister down. She was my PTSD dog. Could reach me like no one could. But they have unlimited energy. I always said I’d never get 3 from the same litter again. But seriously they never nipped me or anyone just each other. Now this puppy tries to heel me every time I stop playing soccer with her. 😆😆 My all time favorite breed.

I got 6 out of 7, I live in an apartment, but we have a dog park in the complex that is literally a 2 min walk from our building. We have a walking trail and also live in AZ. After some training we will take her on road trips up into the mountains. She is also going to be my ESA due to my severe anxiety and depression. ❤

Haha. Emotionally stable. Jokes on you, I've got panic disorder, GAD and depression but mine is training for Psychiatric Service Animal jobs. But I'm gonna be in an apartment. And she's still a good fit. She already bonded so can't really throw her away. Not all heelers struggle in smaller spaces.

My cow dog is backwards. She prefers to stay home not go on walks but loves the car. She likes to find a quiet place and be to herself. She is very loyal when out. No need for a leash. She does sleep with me. She can be a little weird when she feels trapped or cornered and barges out to be free from that situation. She looks for direction. Loves her groceries. No problem with cats and other dogs. An introvert.

Agree with pretty much everything here. I have a BC/Heeler but still all applies. Exercise is a must, how much exercise? Yes! Socializing is very very important. If for no other reason than being able to have other dogs help tire them out its important. Nipping can be trained out very early on, but never really get over it. Although it is rare if there are small children running around making noise ours will try to herd them. All of them will have the quirks but wonderful dogs.

I'm on my second Heeler. People need to be ready to put in the time and they will end up with the best dog possible. I love everything about them. I am retired and love to run. Live near the desert in Baja, so we get up to 2 hours a day to run freely. One xtra bonus, coyotes won't mess with them. Mine has run off coyotes that look bigger than him. Good Video. Thanks.

@@patrickvanmeter2922 I have had a Doberman/Blue Heeler (lost her at the age of 17) and my current 20 month old Border Collie/Blue Heeler. Both wonderful dogs. The Doberman mix was not socialized at rescue so always had some problems with her and other dogs but we knew what we could and could not do and dealt with it. The new girl was socialized at large dog park after Parvo shots, was 25 lbs running with the 50+ lb Huskies and Shepherds. She can deal with a couple days inside due to bad weather, lots of indoor games. We know she is ready to head out anytime and take her whenever possible. Usually a couple hours at dog park or some long hikes. She is probably one of the best dogs I have ever had, which is saying a lot. I have heard horror stories of people trying to keep them in an apartment without exercise though, and not socialized they can be overly untrusting and protective.

What is the raw dog food you recommend? I heard you mention it in your video. Our dog herds a local cat when it gets in my back yard but never hurts him. It is cute to see. When she hears the cat meowing she taps me to go outside to play. Cheers.
